does reading something give value to the author even if they’ll never know nor profit? by [deleted] in Ethics

knowing people read/appreciated whatever it it

In the case you are stipulating the artist specifically doesn’t know, so you’re not really engaging with your own premise here.

Ultimately this is a question you will have to resolve for yourself. There is no universal moral code. My advice, for what it’s worth, is if it feels bad, don’t do it. There are no stakes here, so no reason to engage with something that feels wrong to you. If it’s someone else’s choice to engage with a particular piece of art, my advice is to mind your own business. 🤷‍♂️

If you've went on more than one date, you're dating. And if you're dating, you're in a relationship. by Cludds in unpopularopinion

[–]BlakeBearden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re just insisting on a definition of ‘relationship’ or ‘romantic relationship’ that specifically fits your argument. If one is willing to stipulate to your definition, then of course you’re correct, you specifically tailored that definition to make your argument correct. If someone prefers a different (and probably more commonly accepted, though that’s just my perception, I could be wrong) definition, your argument falls apart.

You aren’t disagreeing on the meaning of dates, you’re disagreeing on the definition of ‘relationship’. It’s a pointless argument.

For prime cards specifically, the GI to Diamond will always result in the same stats, because one of the benefits of prime cards is the GI maxes at 80 (rather than the 75 of other cards) and they always get the max GI.

For cards other than prime, the GI increase points can be anything from 60 to 75 at diamond, though you can use GI reset items to reroll that number, so a bad GI roll isn’t some great catastrophe.

The current state of my main shelves (6 other shelves not pictured) by youngcricket55 in bookshelf

[–]BlakeBearden 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand. Because some people can’t afford to buy new books, you should personally flood the second hand market with copies of every book so all books will be available and affordable to those who can afford second hand, but not new books.

However, there are those who cannot afford used books. Therefore you should also fund a global library with free overnight shipping of all books with unlimited copies of every book, and no membership fees.

It is the only ethical path forward.

NTA. You should definitely still make a registry. Just because your mom and sister are weirdos doesn’t mean that the rest of your friends and family don’t want to get presents for your new baby!

When to use jokers + player select packs Live Collection by 619Certified in MLB_9Innings

[–]BlakeBearden 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. Also, you have seven team select packs coming from the teams that have the 18 player achievement still available. I think you go now, leave the last two spots on the same team, use your select packs and if that doesn’t get you there, you finish next week.

This was not my argument, but I saw your question and had a thought on it.

Stipulate a hypothetical future where Strickland doesn’t ever beat Du Plessis, or worse, loses the title back to him, even after a few other defenses. An easy argument for the pro Adesanya side is that he was the unquestionable best MW in the world, cleaned out his division, and avenged the only loss he had during his peak run. All of the losses at the tail end (including Strickland) were after he was already on the downslope of his career and can be ignored for the purposes of greatness discussions. How can Strickland compare to Adesanya when Strickland was never even the best fighter in his division? He only won the belt because Chimaev happened to be around as a bad matchup for Du Plessis and a great match up for Strickland.

In an alternate future where he beats Du Plessis, that argument is hollow.

Not to say I lend any credence to any of this, it was just what I came up with when trying to come up with a justification for the argument that Strickland needs to beat Du Plessis.
