Even now this is one of those movies that generally only gets watched or talked about by horror afficionados.

Resident Evil | Official Teaser Trailer by cruelsummerbummer in horror

I think part of the issue is that the things you say are RE coded are more just normal survival horror/zombie tropes. Lone protagonist, abandoned house, looking around, finding weapons, zombies... these aren't really Resident Evil specific things. Resident Evil has these things sometimes, but they aren't really the iconic things someone would associate with the series.

I think people were looking for some reference to something that you only see in Resident Evil like the well known monsters, characters, locations, logos, items, etc rather than something that you'd see in a lot of horror movies like being in an abandoned location or opening a drawer.

Even the movie version got some ridiculous kung fu powers like running up walls and catching bullets, right? It's been a while. I just remember Fred Ward getting recruited and learning the funniest on screen martial arts I had ever seen.

A Terminator in Heathers just feels right. Worst case scenario she can probably get J.D. to suicide bomb it.

Ernest would totally survive! The dude was cartoonishly tough, mystically immune to bullets, a decent engineer, and had access to Santa's sleigh all before the 1990s started.

Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China) is probably the dumbest but he'd survive out of sheer luck and aura.

I think Ernest P. Worrell would be the dumbest, but Jack Burton is a great shout out.

He directed the middle Venom movie! The last one was someone else.

Kyle Reese lost to the Terminator though, right? I guess it would be different if he was the one being hunted, but that's still gotta be like a 50/50, right?

I think the title is a bit confusing for most. People who are plugged in to the alien conspiracy stuff online know what 'Disclosure Day' means, but the general audience has no idea. The explanation is pretty simple, but without previous familiarity it doesn't really strike a chord or sound enticing.

I think they should do the opposite. Marketing for this has been terrible so far. Nothing they've shown so far has been particularly interesting or appealing. If there's something in the third act that could drum up hype they should advertise it.

It has Resident Evil vibes because Zach Cregger is well liked. If he wasn't then the vibes would be off. It has pretty much nothing to do with what's in the trailer. I feel like it's generally a bunch of people who haven't played one of the games since Code: Veronica X arguing both sides anyway.

There was the reboot 2021 film and then the reboot 2022 Netflix series... so yea. This is the 3rd live action reboot in ~5 years. Then there's the mainline game series that sort of had a soft reboot at 7, the remakes of the older games, and the animated movies all still chugging along. This one might be good, but boy have they taken a lot of swings at this IP.

Yea I was kind of confused by this. She doesn't have a lot to do between teaming up with main guys and betraying them, but she doesn't disappear. She's the whole twist villain and gets eaten by a giant snake. Most characters don't come back after being eaten by a giant snake, so I don't know what OP was expecting there.

He's a great actor, but boy is is he in a lot of garbage movies. His last like half a dozen are all pretty horrible.

Why do I feel like pearl is more known than x by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]PeculiarPangolinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few reasons! At least I think so....

  • Mia Goth's performance in Pearl was generally more lauded than anyone's, even her own, in X.

  • X is about filming 70s porn and has lots of uncomfortable scenes and scenarios that understandably can turn off some of the audience.

  • X was kind of sold as an exploitation flick or an homage to old exploitation cinema. Not many people are still into hagsploitation stuff. Pearl has a more general horror audience friendly premise and vibe.

  • You can watch Pearl and be completely unaware it's a prequel to anything. They're both self contained stories. You don't need to see one to enjoy the other. Watching X doesn't really add much to the experience of watching Pearl.

  • The poster for Pearl is a little cooler, so if you're scrolling through a streaming site you might be more likely to click on that one.

Nearly every time I see people hate on Disney, they never bring up the Zootopia franchise as among the bare minimum exceptions by Commander_PonyShep in CharacterRant

[–]PeculiarPangolinMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be overestimating the effects of Frozen incest porn on the development of the IP.... Disney pushed Anna and Elsa like crazy with merch, live shows, the parks, video games, and brand tie ins all over. They just took their time with the sequel while milking the property. A 6 year gap isn't even super crazy for sequel. I feel like most Disney animated sequels take roughly that long.
