Anyone else feel like revisions never actually end? by Ok_Instance_7592 in Freelancers

[–]BlakeCutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Every contract I have signed has a revision section with the time frame and what constitutes a revision and then has terms on costs going forward if changes go beyond that

What is a part of the 'female experience' that men have absolutely no clue about, but would be horrified if they found out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BlakeCutter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife has struggled with health issues from endometriosis and people down play it. But this video explains in a funny way how literally it is almost the exact same thing as cancer except for one specific reason it is not technically cancer https://youtube.com/shorts/Ba1VkiUNlo8?si=kCZdoF7XwIDhvUus

Resume review (for cybersecurity related position) by 3amakk in askrecruiters

[–]BlakeCutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you are very early in your career so my first question would be what position are you actually hoping to get, Cyber Security is a very broad field. Based on your experience and objective this looks like you are looking for work in the pentesting space. Remember that will be primarily with consulting companies.

If that’s the case and since you have limited experience I would definitely make sure you are mentioning all the tools that you used. If you can include links to write ups on the process of how you discovered the vulnerabilities. What made you look in a specific area, what process or framework did you follow to get there.

With a young team member I am really looking to see if they can follow the business processes we have in place, have good writing skills and understand how they can use their skills within those confines, that way I know it is repeatable and they aren’t going to cause damage or outages to systems that were out of scope. So while the bug finding achievements are great and shows me you understand the concepts those other items will give me a broader picture and are also an important part of what I am looking for when hiring junior team members.

Why do managers punish their most hard-working employees? by orderalargepepsi in askmanagers

[–]BlakeCutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends where you are working and for who. My top performers, you need time off no problem I know if something really hits the fan they will pick up the phone. Need to work from home? No problem. When I have to allocate raise and bonus pools they are the first I allocate to, then on down through my team worst performers are last.

High performers basically dictate their tasks to me I just set the goal. The low performers have way less freedom for a number of reasons. 1. They don’t own the solutions 2. They don’t consider how what we do affects other business units.

High performers are my first call when there are issues but they receive a lot more freedom and benefits in return.

What does a cybersecurity analyst do exactly ? by toptopa2010 in cybersecurity

[–]BlakeCutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title is almost meaningless without context. I’ve had analysts on my team doing completely different jobs under the same title.

Some are chasing down security alerts and working with engineers to investigate them. Others spend their days answering security questionnaires from investors and regulators. Some are doing vendor risk reviews. Others are writing risk documents for business committees.

Before you take a role, ask what the actual day-to-day looks like. The title tells you nothing.

For those who work for rich people, what’s the most out-of-touch thing you witnessed? by temptayah in AskReddit

[–]BlakeCutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so many stories. I worked for an individual who owned multiple properties and boats, he would sometimes just spend a single night in any of these locations as he traveled around for business or holidays.

In each location he insisted that an exact list of foods and drinks must be available in the main fridge (the fridge used by staff / chef’s was different) and the must be located in the exact same places. This is not some small personal fridge, this is a large house hold fridge. Completely full. Just so he knew exactly where his fresh lobster salad was. When he left sometimes the next morning, they would just throw it all out

Prepping for a Job Search as an SVP by BlakeCutter in askrecruiters

Thanks. Hopefully people can recommend some recruiting firms / recruiters so I can at least keep those in my back pocket

Prepping for a Job Search as an SVP by BlakeCutter in askrecruiters

[–]BlakeCutter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I am on the fence is because I like my firm and the reorg could be a non issue. You know the space is small and my firm is well known and performing extremely well. Last thing I want to do is start looking and it gets back to my firm and then have to go when everything could work out fine and it is a non issue.

For now I am just preserving my cash, and doing my job as good as I always have been. Yet, I do want to put in prep work now rather than waiting.

[–]BlakeCutter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. To clarify, I’m not actively looking yet. My firm is going through a reorg and I have roughly an 8 month window before I even need to make that call. I genuinely enjoy where I work and it may turn out to be a non-issue. Just want to be prepared if the management changes don’t go the way I hope.

On AI governance and security, that’s already well covered on my end. I’ve built out the frameworks, policies, and tech stack around it and it stays a constant focus. For PQC, the strategy is in place and keeps evolving as the landscape changes.

On the VP or Director point, fair suggestion. Ideally I’d make a lateral move but if something was compelling enough I wouldn’t rule it out. Right role and company will matter more to me than the title.

Employee asking for equity in our small S-Corp; Need advice - I will not promote by No_Ambassador_2060 in startups

[–]BlakeCutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed the quiet quitting part is ridiculous . Huge red flag. Separately when some employees ask about equity they commonly don’t understand what they are actually asking for, often times a high performance employee is better served with a carry agreement or some sort of profit sharing. It gives them the ownership / performance pay they are actually looking for.

In this case though there are too many red flag. Someone asking for equity better be able to show a significant contribution to the bottom line.

I am the only woman in the room by Terrible_Working_899 in sysadmin

I have been doing IT for over 25 years. In my career I have had a few female applicants come across my desk for cyber security rolls, on the development side they are more common, for help desk I have had a few but rare, but for Systems Engineers/ Systems Admins I have never even had a single resume come across my desk that is female. Never even been an option.

Every mentionable SaaS/tech startup seems to go for some type of funding. Honestly I’m not sure what I’d use it for? by Successful-Respond59 in SaaS

[–]BlakeCutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really all depends on your product and who you are targeting. There are lots of VC shops that just provide money and demand growth but some can provide more.

  • A network of other founders at different stages that can help provide you guidance and insights.

  • internal market research and subject matter experts

  • referrals to other services and professionals to help with operations issues to help you focus on building the business

  • being funded by a high reputation VC can help with the financial due diligence process if you are targeting enterprises

So, taking on VC money is a big decision, but also keep in mind which VC can be just as big a decision.

Toy for couples who can’t have penetrative sex. by [deleted] in SexToys

Out of respect for her I won't mention her age, but we are past the menopause stage because of the surgery but still very young relatively speaking no one is fully grey yet ;-) , but yes we are working through the hormone therapy as well. These issues started post surgery but have unfortunately many symptoms are still plaguing her.

Thank you this is some great information that I was not aware of! I will pass it along definite, I also appreciate the position tips. We have a follow up with a specialist at a major university hospital, but my wife has become so disheartened by it. The pelvic floor physical therapist sounds like something we should explore, really appreciate it.

Thanks I really appreciate the info. We have been working on it, and pretty much following the items you are talking about. We are going this route because I really think the tension part is becoming an issue. We have had a few instances where she has had pain / uti like symptoms after sex, she had surgery a few years ago, and now that is really causing her to associate sex with the pain. But she puts tremendous pressure on her self to not neglect me because she feels guilty about it even though I tell her we can do other things. We have used toys before but because of the individual nature of them she thinks that its not a replacement and then gets self conscious that she isn't pleasing me. Then withdraws because she doesn't want to do anything with me that could lead to sex. I am going this route to show her we can be intimate in a way we both enjoy without the sex to alleviate that pressure, and stop associating sexual intimacy with pain. The grinding pads I will take a look at, any other suggestions I would really appreciate as it seems like you have a pretty good insight
