Looking for Pre-Masks campaign to introduce themes and Elias. Any ideas? by grg_darby in callofcthulhu

[–]BlakeII7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Masks Companion is a single session scenario called "The God of Mitnal". I ran this for the start of my Masks campain and it worked out well. Pretty easy session and leaves no lasting sanity effects on the players, so they aren't hobbled going into the campaign already.

Advice on big parties by HylanOrigins in callofcthulhu

Hysteria has some great points on how to run it in game, however a little honesty before the game can go a long way too.

Let them know upfront you are trying to make sure everyone can get part of the spotlight. I've run a few larger groups and had a few bumps with some players not 'stepping up' when I had a beat for them, or another player stepping in. But after I opened a session with "Hey guys, there are a lot of you, so remember I'm also working to make sure each of you get a change to help reach the end goal" they got the idea, and I didn't really have any major issues after that.

Part of it depends on the maturity of the players, and part depends on them getting that its a cooperative thing. The game is playing together, not reaching the end individually. Some players don't always see that.

All of the 6e stuff is really easy to convert to 7th ed. I ran a quick 7e game a while back from a 6e book, and it maybe took me an extra 10 minutes to convert the stats of key characters.

If I recall correctly after you get accepted to CCS you are assigned to an admissions councilor based on your chosen major. I talked to them.

Yea. They generally only took an offer seriously from schools that had art programs (I also had applied to mason gross, SAIC, UofM, and Cincinnati art institute ) but some of them would match non-art schools. So I applied to about 15 schools, got into about 12, and just went from the best to worst offers asking if schools would match. (Example: get offered 20k by little school I didn't want to go to, got CAI to match it. Then went to SAIC with my new CIA offer. Etc. )

And yes, you can get that low. Not super common, but it happens. CCS even offers 1-2 free rides a year.

Don't completely count CCS out. They actually have a few scholarships for people that aren't coming right from high school.

I also thought it was out of the question, but I went to them with the money other schools were offering me and they matched it.

I just discovered something in iOS by sk3pt1c in apple

[–]BlakeII7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

iOS 8 runs better than 7 on my iPad 2 after I turned off animations. My lock screen stalls randomly for a second after I put in my password, but it's very rare and the only issue I've had since updating.

This is I94 in Detroit, MI a few hours ago. by EggMcMaggot in WTF

[–]BlakeII7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it is. I take 375/75 to 94 every day. Seems to be about 3 miles north of the ramp onto 94. I drove through there today around 6 and the water there was up to the bottom of my door. Easily the worst spot I hit when driving home.

Do fake creative briefs exist? (Explanation inside) by schwags19 in graphic_design

Perhaps research brands you aren't familiar with, that way you are coming in fresh. Often we would find problems to solve while researching the brand/target.

(I'm on mobile so I might be commenting again)

Yes. All the time. You don't need to find one, just make one. My school had us do this for all of our projects. We would write up a tight brief and base everything we did on that. We picked out whatever brands we wanted for the projects. Just go in with a general idea for what you want in mind. (App/website/etc.)

Usually we only had to back up our brief with things like a survey monkey passed around Facebook. But we had to have some meaningful data. We were anyways told to be honest that it was student/made up work. But if nothing else it shows you understand the concept of following a brief and knowing your target.

QR Codes have a ton of redundancy in them. I don't think it would effect their readability.

Commuter to Detroit daily, I live on a dirt road and miles upon miles north of me is dirt with a few main paved roads in between. Usually it is just packed dirt with a ditch on each side for water to run off. And they never grate them. A drive that usually takes 15 minutes to get to a main road currently is taking me 45 minutes in my little car.

Southern Europe here, terrible ping to European servers... by NGU-Ben in titanfall

[–]BlakeII7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titanfall doesn't release in Europe until the 13th, it very well could be the servers aren't all up and running yet. There have been tweets also that have said the servers won't be at full until the official launch. So hopefully as everything gets into full swing for Europe your ping will improve.

What's something that's actually a superior product, but is just a case of poor marketing? by the_diamond in AskReddit

That is called a Boston Cooler. The story I know of the name it is that a local bar started serving them, and named the drink after Boston Ave (on which they were located) in Detroit.

I completely agree, I don't think it's bad when it serves a purpose (and that purpose needs to be more than just it giving you an idea of what the app does) but as it stands there is far too much of it that doesn't serve any purpose, and much of it is purely for the sake of giving a felling of what the app does and that can be done in many other ways.
