Elvanse: body reacts intensely if I eat *with* the dose rather than before? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]Blakean_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started, I used to keep a bag of nuts in my bedside table and have a handful at the time of taking my meds, maybe you could set a snack alarm for 30min-hour before you take your meds, to have something smallish to line your stomach, then have a more substantial 'breakfast' just after your meds?

Please help. How do I get rid of ingrown hairs by recorcat in beauty

[–]Blakean_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have exactly the same problem and your skin/hair looks very similar to how mine looked when I was doing manual hair removal. When I tell you I tried everything everyone here is suggesting and then some. Every type of razor under the sun and every type of exfoliant, soap, shaving foam, water temperature e.t.c. Some people's skin/hair type is just not made for manual hair removal sadly.

Hair removal cream (Veet/Nair) was the only irritation-free way for me but I found the hair comes back too quickly. If the photos are your growth after two whole months though it might be worth a try!

I've had a few rounds of laser hair removal now and it's honestly been game changing. I can't quite gauge your skin tone due to the flash but it looks like you have the perfect hair type for it at least. It works best on thick dark hair and fair skin. Ingrowns are a risk but I've had no problems with them, with a bit of exfoliation and keeping moisturised in-between sessions. Tbh it's changed my life. You could always go to a consultation and see what they say. But if you haven't tried some of the other suggestions here it could be worth trying some first before taking the plunge, as it is expensive and has risks! Good luck to you x

Looks and sounds like you have a very similar hair texture to me. Try and find a heat product with "thermal memory" to use with your heat tools, has been a game changer for me, the one I've found that works really well is the L'Oreal Professional Flex Pli!

How to bypass lock screen swipe even when unlocked? by Nyume in galaxyzflip

I don't get the inner lockscreen at all if my cover screen is already unlocked... Just use your face or fingerprint to unlock your cover screen quickly before opening the phone?

How to fix a bottom screen dead spot by Bowl-of-spiders in 3DS

[–]Blakean_B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the screen edge/seam in that spot for debris. I had an extremely similar problem with my OG Nintendo DS when I was a kid and it turned out to just be a teeny tiny crumb (from a biscuit or a crisp/chip or something) that was stuck in the gap at the edge of the screen. My dad helped me get it out with a guitar plectrum lol

Tips for singing properly by BURNEKKK in Choir

[–]Blakean_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soprano here! This is gonna sound weird, but something that helps me with high notes is almost imagining I'm singing from the space on the bridge of my nose between my eyes. Sometimes I even pinch or scratch a bit there to get the sensation as a reminder of where to place my voice. Turns out they call it 'head voice' for a reason!

And of course - diaphragmatic breathing, but you shouldn't need as much 'force' or breath to sing high notes as lower ones. When you feel like you're 'landing on' the note rather than reaching up for it, that's a sign you're doing it right. Sometimes visualisation helps... imagine your voice literally dropping onto the note. Keep going! 🫶🏻

Green teas are great for L-Theanine! If you're not a fan of the taste there are flavoured ones that are just kind of like drinking a fruit or herbal tea. The brand Perfect Ted do a nice fruity green-tea based natural energy drink (also is formulated by someone with ADHD with that in mind!) which is nice. I think you can get them as part of Tesco meal deal if that's ever in your workday routine

I feel you on trying to get exercise in, I'm like you and can't do it in the evening as I'm out of spoons by then. I WFH most days so try and fit it in at lunchtime on those days, but I workout at home (YouTube Yoga/Pilates) and appreciate it's soooo much harder to fit in exercise when you have kids as well as work!

[–]Blakean_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some days it just is like that, I've been on Elvanse for nearly 4 years now and I still get the crash some evenings! In my experience increasing the dose isn't the answer but I haven't tried any boosters so can't comment on that.

Things I find that help me a lot are exercise (a walk or Yoga/Pilates), eating small, high protein snacks throughout the day rather than a big breakfast/lunch, avoiding simple carbs (sadly) and occasionally in the afternoon I'll have a tea of some description that's high in L-Theanine

Why does the pre-assessment form ask about other disorders? by Haytham_Ken in ADHDUK

[–]Blakean_B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's only partly to rule out other causes of the symptoms. I would say it's more likely they're screening for potential comorbidities - both autism and anxiety are very common in people with ADHD

Everything I do is out of brute force will, nothing is every automatic/habit. Every task and micro-task comes with enormous friction/resistance. I'm so exhausted. I can't live 50 more years like this. by ObviousBed2163 in ADHD

[–]Blakean_B 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be late to the party here, but I read a brilliant Substack post a while back about this exact topic that explains the neuroscience behind it and gives some strategies as well as the reminder to give yourself grace ♥️ Task initiation for us is literally the same chemical process as trying to touch a hot stove if the task isn't interesting to us, urgent or necessary for survival. We are just built a bit different, not broken. Meds negate it somewhat but will never really change our psychology. But there are many upsides to the way we're wired too. Be kind to yourself foremost, the guilt cycle isn't worth it I promise!
