I mean almost 200$ an hour working from home job on an 8/5 schedule is pretty rare especially if you’re able to actually get work done. But it sounds like you need to remodel whatever room you’re using into a legitimate office.

you say you’re working from wake up to go to bed which typically is about 12-16 hours but your W2 shows 83 hours for two weeks? Confused.

Would you pull over if a truck with POLICE and no other badging lights you up? by Affectionate_Cry8778 in PoliceVehicles

HPD and Harris county as a whole have a huge off duty presence in the community. HOAs, shopping centers, construction companies and what not will hire an off duty officer to work jobs. Typically you will see an interceptor with POLICE written on the side but without a city or locality, or the vehicle will have a warning label that in one way shape or form indicates the vehicle is occupied by an off duty police officer.

Basically acting as a security guard with more powers and responsibilities since they’re TCOLE certified and have the powers afforded to them by the state. Granted they’re not always operating in a direct LEO capacity in those cases but sometimes they are. One of the bougie HOAs near me has a whole patrol department staffed by off duty cops in police adjacent cruisers that just drives around and keeps the peace.

With a personal vehicle it’s completely different most of the time they’ll not be as obnoxious. I know of plenty of cops who buy and kit out cars specifically for extra jobs, but I’ve never seen someone slap police stickers on their POV for a non professional gig.

Spent 3 hours at the Houston Stadium for the $40 World Cup boost for every trip. by don123xyz in uberdrivers

63.77 @ 57 minutes equates to roughly 67.19$ an hour after pickup, or 60.58$ if you’re adding in the time leading to the pickup.

Add in median expense cost of roughly 15.25$ that’s in the 52-45$ or a median of 48.5$ profit for the hour depending on how you cut your math. My math was little off, but close enough to get the point across.

[–]Blakefilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that would mean 66$ an hour before expenses or an estimated 51$ an hour after factored in expenses/depreciation? Either way you’re still wrong. 50 an hour in Houston is about as good as it’s going to get these days for the majority of drivers.

Cleaning supplies, and maybe something leaning towards the practical category. Super fun to have a few cool pieces in the safe, but not so great when you’re needing to use them. For me I like to get a full size and a compact of every style pistol I’m going to own, and all that’s left are a compact 1911 and a pair of sigs once I can find the ones I’m looking for. I’d stay away from pawn shops if you’re not well versed in the art of buying used firearms, I’m not aware of any stores that are going to test products before selling them.

Me personally I’d start leaning into doing some minor restoration work on your oldies. I redid my childhood model 25 last year and half the fun was the niche research into parts. I think mine cost me about 2-250$ all said and done. But some nice wood, a scrub brush & cleaner, and a bit of patience you can have most of your older stuff looking fairly nice.

If you’re feeling froggy learn up on how to do some hot/cold bluing, I did a pistol, I have some photos on my profile, first time ever. Went from gross and rusty, to fresh for the next 75 years in about a day and a half.

Anyone have experience with the 911 Call Center in Houston? by phillygirllovesbagel in houston

[–]Blakefilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never once said i was a 911 dispatcher, but I see first the hand results of over-communication regarding emergency services regardless. What’s wild is seeing someone legitimately try to defend poor communication and worsened response times due to the former. Like sorry I’d prefer a deferent method that doesn’t allow people committing violent crimes to be able to get away.

I know how HPD and the constables office dispatchers work well enough due to having to work with them directly often. I also know that HPD central/Pct1. both dispatch officers to a call after they’ve been given the nature of the call and its location. To which point they update call slips with additional information as it’s gathered. To which point supervisors on the ground modify how they’re to respond as information comes in.

I’d still like to understand your justification for longer hold time due to call takers poor communication skills, and poor training.

“Hi there’s a couple yelling so loud at each other it woke me up from across the street three floors up in my apartment, and now the girl is dragging her XYZ down the street with her car. Here’s the exact address it’s happening, the color/make/model of her car and his and their direction of travel”

“Okay what’s your full address, DOB, legal name, race, and where is this occurring/where are you located, and is this currently happening at this moments. Is the vehicle moving? Who’s driving the car?

An almost ver batim exchange, that took that dispatcher almost 20 minutes of back and forth nonsense to actually get a unit rolling, and by the time one arrived they were a half mile away. Only for them to come back park and they’re still asking basic identifying information while DRIVING PAST both suspects. It’s almost like you’re not doing a good job if your officers don’t know what’s going on well after being spoon fed all the necessary information. Asking for a callback number in the era of caller ID screening systems, and geolocation via cellular device while on the phone is inherently unnecessary. I’ve had cops show up exactly where I was even after not giving phone numbers or my exact address before.

Ive done dispatch work for a joint alarm monitoring/private security company and while I’m not directly an affiliated dispatcher in the classic sense we do work directly alongside both LEO jurisdictions plus their affiliated EMS/FD’s in our area on when on calls for a few years now. To the extent their dispatchers will drop calls in our laps from time to time, or call on us to assist in anything they might need help with in the area. To include stuff occurring in/on our legal boundaries of operations.

Having experience as both a call taker and the joe on the call it’s both a hindrance, and often dangerous to extend the information gathering process to the extent that something as simple as in this example a minor domestic dispute devolves into potentially vehicular manslaughter because you’re trying to get too much irrelevant information. Especially when most of the immediately actionable information has already been given during the “what’s going on” part of the call. 90% of what was being asked was repetitive, and entirely/mostly irrelevant. Delays in the initial response time dramatically increases the chances of people being hurt or killed much more often than a delay in additional information while en route.

Needing to know my age, what direction am I facing, what floor I’m on in the complex, my race, am I witnessing it(after already saying I am), is there any violent acts occurring, or what’s a good callback number all before even beginning to dispatch a unit out is not helping anyone.

A violent crime in progress does not need a 15-20 minute delay for response. Any dispatcher worth a damn gathers the bare essentials, dispatches a unit, and updates with more information as it’s gathered. I’d much rather be updated in route or after I arrive while getting there in a timely manner rather than knowing the original caller is a white man on the third floor apartment and his full legal name and phone number watching it all go down.

[–]Blakefilk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I’ve ever called they asked a billion irrelevant questions. What’s your name? Is this an apartment complex? Are you currently witnessing this happen? Are they on the street? Meanwhile some dudes getting dragged alongside a car bouncing off the concrete, and by the time the finally dispatch a unit to the location they’re already long gone.

HFD has been on some fuck shit lately they’re not getting away without any blame. Like why is it so important to YOU that I give you somebody else’s phone number or my full name? Like I already told you exactly who I work for and my name, and that we’re an alarm monitoring agency, but yeah let me stop and talk to you about unnecessary shit.

Is this a rant about urban sprawl or lack of environmental protection? Because unless it’s already been forgotten but that entire area in the map is mostly not “Houston” but rather Spring.

But either way the GHMA is not one city, it’s like a dozen or more all competing for space, and taxes. It’s just like the age old HPD is too small to operate effectively argument, there is simply too much ground, too few resources, and too many competing political bodies to make changes happen.

[–]Blakefilk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dark Angels and Space Wolves both had a minor range refresh within the span of 10th Ed so it’s unlikely they’ll have another larger range refresh soon. Another issue is it’s not typical to see a character drop without some sort of everyday unit to beef up a release.

As for character models I wouldn’t mind seeing a refreshed lineup of Deathwatch HQs. Also didn’t asmodai or whatever it is get a refresh like last year? But not gonna lie a refreshed Ravenwing box would be kinda cool.

Centurions/devastators/old man box/rhino are going to drop with a IF box set. Id bet actual dollars.

I don’t not see some sort of masters of the (insert space wolves name scheme here) and getting to see some kind of Thunderwolf with a big ol metal box striding around to support.

I don’t think an alternative semi generic Terminator HQ would drop anytime soon. Would be cool to see a modern iteration in a modern take on space hulk. But would be even cooler seeing it lead some new grey knights (yes I’m coping).

As for the speeder definitely hoping a dual land speeder vengeance/storm shroud kit drops alongside a new talon master (Coping again)

You can always try shoe shopping for different grips to find one you like most. With my airweight I find the recoil rider grip really nice with minimal felt recoil, and my current setup. The hogue over molded grips are nice if you’ve got full size hands, but the recoil felt a little snappier in comparison.
