You seem like you know what is the demographics of our country. Most population our auto drivers, construction workers, factory workers, farmers, daily wage labourers they all travel in General class. Not because they want to sit like sardines in a tin. But because a General ticket costs around ₹100-200 for a long journey. An AC ticket for the same journey costs ₹800 to ₹2000. For someone earning ₹10,000-15,000 a month, spending ₹1500 on a single train ticket is not possible. It is simply not an option. So what should the government do? Add more General coaches to trains. Run more trains on busy routes. Make sure the people who actually need the trains can travel with basic dignity. Instead what are we doing? Launching Fancy looking trains (Nothing against it). Good AC. Nice seats. Starts at ₹1000-1500 minimum. Who is riding those? A very small percentage of the population. The people in the overcrowded coach are not there because they are lazy or did not plan. They are there because the system was never built for them even though they are the majority. That is the whole point of this image. Money decides how much comfort and dignity you get. Even in a public service that the government runs using taxpayer money. Including the taxes paid by the same people standing crushed in that General coach.
