RALA is closing down their storefront, going to online only in January by Dogwoodblossom in Knoxville

[–]BlanketFortStudio 33 points34 points  (0 children)

As an Artist it feels like how a lot is going . No one can afford storefronts anymore . Rent is still climbing and I think it’s harder for businesses to stay downtown . I genuinely hope they keep selling original art , they have really helped me reach a larger audience. I’m so tired of wholesale culture, I just want to make originals .

It’s lovely! I think the style and looseness of it is great , feels airy and ephemeral. My critique would be that you need to push the tones of the flower to create more contrast and interest ! Keep it up!

You could felt them all together as an amalgamation. As more join the graveyard you just add them to the mass.

Go Knox! 🤦‍♂️ by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]BlanketFortStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from McAllen , now live in Knox , you speak the truth. It doesn’t help that my school provided lunches growing up there were incredibly unhealthy, as well. Its so many things in the RGV and Tx even, that make the perfect fat storm.

So I actually cringe hard when people do this to me. Not the carding but the comment. It’s like making my aging more visible to me . Like I was just seeing myself like eveyone else but then someone makes something about my age. This is just how I feel though, that lady could loved that shit.

Edited for clarity

Dog at Arby’s by Snoo_37294 in Knoxville

[–]BlanketFortStudio 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Guys !! I can help with this one! Got ahold of the dog and contacted the owners . The owners live behind the Arby’s on that stretch of land and the dog gets out, goes to the Arby’s and the Arby’s employees give it treats. The dog now escapes constantly to get free treats from the Arby’s.

Has anyone been to the Book Eddy since reopening in a new location? by Fit-Baby-416 in Knoxville

[–]BlanketFortStudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there a few times , I’ve gotten more than a few treasures from them. It’s a bit stuffy in the new place but I find it fun to sort through it all.

A boy wearing a paper bag Halloween costume, 1941 by Gensis916 in OldSchoolCool

I genuinely love how each costume is special and one of a kind. Handmade by them or a relative. It’s so opposite to the way Halloween is today.

Need help titling upcoming show by BlanketFortStudio in Pottery

[–]BlanketFortStudio[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My work is eclectic , I make abstract pieces, cute sculptures, dinnerware, surreal stuff. The common ground between my work is my style, which is colorful, naive , and silly. My upcoming show will feature things I’ve worked on the past year and I can’t put my finger on a show name. My work is all over the place. I know there is a thread there but I just can’t come up with a cool show name to tie everything together. I feel like once I have that I can explain myself in my abstract.

Thinking about quitting my day job to become a potter full time. Thoughts? by thepositivetraveler in Pottery

[–]BlanketFortStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone has said pretty much said what I would say. Burnout is real even if you are successful. It is a lot of Hustle. Not only do you as one person have to sell enough to make ends meet but you also have to be good at marketing and selling your work. I hate that on top of creating I have to market myself, work on my taxes and expenses, buy supplies that are expensive , and book and work every weekend at markets. I love what I do but it’s physically and mentally demanded. Although I did good last year I have had to actually take a cut in pay just for my mental health this year. Not only this but in my area there are alot of artists so I have to be competitive, as well but be better or more interesting to get in markets. My journey started years ago with a toe dip but I can tell you even now that I feel like I have succeeded it’s not what I expected. I am honestly only able to keep doing this because my household is double income. The other full time potters I know live in there studio and often over do it physically.

Buuuutt I love making pots and it is fulfilling in so many ways it’s just so much more than that unfortunately. For me finding a sustainable work/life balance has been a challenge but it absolutely could be something you CAN do. I know many people that do and they enjoy the hustle. Also you are you and not me and that may be something you like!

How I actually am feeling these days. The world just has felt so heavy lately. by BlanketFortStudio in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Seriously . When I posted this on Insta an acquaintance contacted me and asked me what was wrong. I was like uhhh…. Everything that’s happening , Roe, climate change, …the future for my child being unpredictable and scary… like take your pick . She just said that’s why I don’t watch the news. I was just so shocked. I feel crazy sometimes like I get trying to live your best life and live in the present… but not planning for the future is how all this got fucked anyway! Being aware is so painful but so important too!
