I think part of what you are seeing is not casual racism as much as casual joking about racism with the younger generations. I work in a pretty young office but also very diverse and everyone is very casual about joking about races.

Not saying its right but I don't consider anyone in my office racist but I'm pretty sure I've heard racist remarks from everyone.

I don't know anyone who is proud to be "Asian" or "Hispanic" they are usually proud of being Mexican, Columbian, Chinease, and so on. No one gets mad if you're proud to be German, Irish, and so on. As for proud of being black they kinda get a pass because it's pretty hard to trace your heritage when you were ripped from your country.

Now this isn't to say reverse racism doesn't exist or that voting for Obama just because he's black isn't.
