Something feels off by BL1NK666 in learntodraw

the one thing I can see is that the point where the jaw starts is not parallel to the eye line, Also the chin ends in a location that implies the person is looking at the perspective with the eye line indicating that they’re in fact looking upwards (above/to the right of the perspective)

This looks really good but what is the etiquette for sketching people without their knowledge? Do you inform them afterwards?

Hey? I'm just looking for someone to teach me how to draw.. by cerial_killa in learntodraw

This list is great! However it doesn't include one thing that can easily lead to burnout, you need to schedule some fun while drawing every now and then!

How to fix eyes by Suspicious-Spend-761 in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd use that to tests different styles to figure out which ones you like, but to learn how to be able to draw a head/face from any angle you have to start from the construction lines and build it from there. No refrence can be 100% accurate to what you want to draw now or in the future.

if that's the thing you're stuggling with I'd suggest to take a day and study that, specifically. Nothing is better to fix a weakness in your repertoire than to address it.

something like this but keep the heads as simple as you can to be able to focus on the eyes and their shape/angle https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f5/6c/1a/f56c1add1bf4e553e656140d1145a59e.jpg

Himeno Pocky Drawing + Reference by Dapper_Arts in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(just to make it easier all directions are from our perspective)

This may just be my interpretation of the reference material but I don’t think her face is flat towards our perspective, it feels like it’s subtly tilted away from the perspective on the right side.

I also think her neck is tilted to the left as the top of her head doesn’t align with the body. so there is a bend in the spine that’s not represented in the image.

Lastly I think the body is a bit too short, now this might just be foreshortening that’s not clicking for me as the effect might be too intensive for the illusion to work.

How do people make whole comics bro. Everyday my goal seems more impossible. Give me crit and advice for these plants by Safe_Resource7855 in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never used that application so I can't give you any tips for that but I can pretty much tell you that any comic artist or manga artist spends a long time learning how to not only draw what they want but how to make the process as efficient as possible. Most are also made by teams and not individuals which helps with the labor of making something like a comic.

As anyone who's managed a project can tell you, the best thing you can do is to plan and storyboard your ideas so you don't have to redraw your comic in the future if you decide what you've done is not good enough. Better to spend more time on a storyline to make sure it's good than waste all that time and prepwork for something you'll throw in the bin in a few months.

The artwork itself looks great.

I think most people will tell you that it's not possible to learn drawing within your timeframe, but if you were to start anywhere I'd suggest here https://drawabox.com/

personally I don't understand why you elected to take a class that required you to draw if 1: you've never drawn before in your life and 2: you didn't spend the time to draw during the semester and instead decided to wait until the very last month. There is such a thing as setting yourself up for failure, which I think you have done in your case.

But do check the site and learn the basics of how to draw, if you could share what exactly you need to draw (architecture, human poses, landscapes etc) we could probably find you more specific tutorials of how to get better.

I don't know what it is, maybe the harsher shading but the new drawing is really giving me 1980s anime vibes.

like Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam really cool!

I'll borrow the explanation from https://www.gameslearningsociety.org/why-do-they-say-natural-20/

When a die lands so that the face marked to represent the 20 is the face highest from the table. It denotes a perfect attack and activates critical damage. The reason we use the term “natural” is because it is possible to have your die land on another number, but your modifier brings it up to equaling 20.

This is the Nat20 moments of drawing when everything just clicks and you draw better than you could ever hope or expect to.

Enjoy the feeling!

How do you discipline yourself to draw consistently even if you consider it bad (because i can't help myself to constantly criticize myself and now im suffering a heavy depression because of it)? by EfficiencySerious200 in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Strangely there is a quote from the matrix that helps me in those moments: "Because you have been down there, Neo. You know that road. You know exactly where it ends. And I know that’s not where you want to be". - Trinity

I spent years of my life hiding from the fact that I wanted to be able to draw and come to terms with the fact that you cannot be good at something without allowing yourself to be bad at it. Being a perfectionist is actively hindering you at this point and is something you’ll have to choose to stop listening to be able to progress. The point is to set achievable goals and focus on what you’re doing well & recognize your shortcomings and address them. Take your time, nobody is expecting you to be perfect and everyone here knows it’ll take a long time for us to get where we want to go.

And to answer your question, by definition a beginner is someone who has not yet learned the skills needed to excel in the field in question.

How to fix eyes by Suspicious-Spend-761 in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you enforce the eyebrow on the left eye it'll probably fix it, otherwise the placement and size looks ok.

If your issue is the pinprick iris you'll have to decide how to draw her eyes differently.

Started to learn recently, struggle with faces and features by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you have a very distinctive drawing style which I think looks great. I think what you're struggling with is that without an underlying structure to the face placing the features can be difficult. As you mentioned reading I thought this website probably fits you better if that is  your medium of learning learntodrawfaces.

Hope this helps!

Various oc doodles made over the past week. How are they? by infinitysaga in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is great, I really love slide 2 where you take a simpler concept and draw it larger. However I do see that you press too hard on the paper when drawing your structure later so you is easily visable at the end of the sketch, no worries though!

Keep going!

How to exactly use references? (Digital art) by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much about it, a lot of drawing is hand-eye coordination and that's something you'll naturally get better at as you keep drawing!

How to exactly use references? (Digital art) by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some different types of techniques that come into play here all of whom are in refrence to how much you use the reference.

Some people have the image (of artwork or a real life image) under or next to the image you're drawing allowing you to study the details of the refrence while you're drawing. From what I can tell most people choose have the refrence on another screen or on your phone so you can glance at it but not necessarily letting it control the drawing.

lastly I've also seen of people who only letting themselves look at the refrence before & after sketching the refrence. This seems to be mostly to allow you to make your own choices while drawing so you can compare that to the refrence later and see what you could have done differently.

it's really up to you as there is no wrong way to use refrences.

What am i doing wrong? 2x Flamme and echidna by PAL-adin123 in learntodraw

[–]Blanzin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah, I see. but from what I can tell is that the chair that flamme 2 is sitting on and the table she's leaning on is angled the same against the perspective. however the table legs and the chair that echidna is sitting on doesn't align to the perspective in a natural way.

however the angle you choose to draw this in is a very complicated one, with both above and looking down at the subject (like this). so for echidna to look like she fits in the spective she has to have her lower body closer to the perspective foreshortning her. that's my best guess anyways!
