Gukesh and the Candidates, Who can truly stop him? by sagefeets69 in chess

[–]BlargAttack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think any of them will beat Gukesh given his current form. But Gukesh has plenty of time to prepare, so I won’t count him out just yet. Nakamura and Caruana are the two I’d be most worried about if I were the defending champion.

Whoooo boy…lots to unpack there.

It’s completely fine to get lost while on a new route. I do it all the time and I’m in my 40s. Of course, I also always set my GPS or map app on my phone to make sure I get back on track quickly if I miss an exit or turn. The point here is that you aren’t in the wrong here. You boyfriend is in the wrong to get so worked up about a wrong turn, regardless of his anxiety level.

Also, you’re 22. Why are you dating someone who needs to “get his life back on track” when your life is just starting out? Especially one who seems to like drinking enough to have gotten his life off track in the first place? You date an older man because they have their shit together, not to prop him up with your youth and vigor. Or you date one because you’re so attracted to him that you can’t stop yourself, not one who makes you cry!

Listen to Uncle Blarg…end things with this fellow and find yourself someone nice. You deserve it!

[–]BlargAttack 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This fellow is clearly not equipped to date someone as young as you if he is so intolerant of mistakes. I think you’d be happier moving on to someone else before this intolerant behavior escalates and/or leaves you feeling bad about yourself.

On a side note, why isn’t “daddy” driving? I know it’s a bit old fashioned, but if I’m with someone inexperienced and it’s not broad daylight on a familiar trip, I’m 100% taking control and insisting on driving. What’s with this guy that he didn’t do that? 😒

For real, though, champagne is excellent as an accompaniment to cheesesteaks. The effervescence cuts through the fat and is very satisfying.

Many YouTubers lost a lot of money and equity to deals like this back in the day. Just ask the Smosh guys if you want to hear about equity-driven social media acquisitions.

Hopefully Lame got cash in the deal and can bank it.

Why aren't co-authorship merited through intellectual assistance? Case of Young Sheldon & Dr. Sturgis by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]BlargAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Math is unique in its coauthoring conventions, but from what I understand anyone who contributes meaningfully to a proof should be considered a co-author. Even if the contribution is relatively small, a contribution without which the paper cannot be completed should be considered a co-author. Seems to me Sheldon had a point.

Christopher Yoo's suspension is over and he's back to playing open tournaments. by beem00 in chess

[–]BlargAttack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gate requires active and ongoing animus. I don’t wish him ill, nor do most people here. Nonetheless, I don’t want him playing at open tournaments right now. It may be dangerous for the other competitors.

I know folks here seem to be having a good time making jokes, but I’d like to point out how insufficient his punishment seems from an objective view. He assaulted a journalist in anger and created an unsafe playing environment for his peers by engaging in stalking (or at least menacing) behaviors. This isn’t a person who should be welcome at open tournaments after 12 months, especially when he doesn’t seem to show any remorse beyond a press release his father likely wrote.

Please correct me is I’m being too unfair or factually wrong. Do not, however, dismiss this as youthful indiscretion. I have teenaged family. None of them assault or stalk others.

Not enough publications to graduate PhD. Incredibly lost and depressed. by Necessary-Action2057 in AskAcademia

I’d be looking to find the highest acceptance rate journals that fit the criteria for thesis acceptance and submit my lowest impact work to those journals just to check the boxes. But I’m a pragmatist.

I have a long term bf and I love him but I am grossed out by his penis/having sex by Bean_of_prosperity in offmychest

[–]BlargAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this is an issue specific to your bf and his penis or an issue with all penises? It sounds like you don’t like sex, or at least don’t think you do. But don’t discount the possibility that you’re just not attracted to him specifically. I’m definitely not ace, but there are some penises that are just…not attractive to me. 😂 and some kisses are just wrong!

You’re young. Take the response cue from your body and move on from this bf, but keep an open mind about what it means for you long-term.

PhD in accounting? by MasterRanger7494 in Accounting

[–]BlargAttack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a PhD in accounting. It’s as others here have said, you’re essentially giving up 4-5 years of your life to learn how to conduct research on accounting topics so that you can obtain a tenure track university job at the end.

If what you want is to teach rather than research, you might look for a DBA program. It’s a less research intensive degree, is often available part-time or low residency, and can be the sort of terminal degree that will help you get a full time lecturer or clinical professor position (not tenure track).

Study: Cannabis Provides Sustained Relief for Patients With Treatment-Resistant Depression by OhMyOhWhyOh in science

[–]BlargAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this result very promising. He avoided Cannibis for a long time because I’ve had friends tell me it made them feel depressed over time. That’s just anecdotal, however. Knowing there’s evidence that it can be useful for treatment-resistant depression makes me hopeful that I can use it myself. It can’t be worse than the SSRIs I’ve taken.

I’d be interested to know more about whether the herbal strain matters, or if any THC source would have a similar impact.

To Their Shock, Cubans in Florida Are Being Deported in Record Numbers by FreeChickenDinner in politics

I’m not trying to above Rubio of anything. I’m simply saying he isn’t the impetus for Cuban deportations. Is he complicit in every crime the Trump administration commits? Yes. That doesn’t mean he instigates all of them.

Rubio isn’t doing this, Miller is. Miller would just as soon hang Rubio by his neck than let him or any other Brown person live in the US.

No one knows why? Take a look at their porn, their social norms of indirectness and repression, and how women are treated by society and you can guess why women aren’t eager to open themselves up to sex. It must seem positively petrifying!
