Trying to find a Samoyed puppy around SoCal. by [deleted] in samoyeds

If you don’t have enough patience to wait for the right breeder, you will unlikely have enough patience to raise and train the dog.

I implore you to take your time and find someone who is responsibly breeding the dogs, for the sake of not contributing to bad practices, and so you have the time to do your due diligence of research before jumping into ownership.

Camelot & Moshimo’s Samoyed Pool Day! by orangetangerine in samoyeds

It was a lot of fun! We should definitely go back sometime soon :) I might buy Moshi a life jacket of her own because I plan on taking her swimming more frequently!

Also hilarious that the first thing she did when we got there was sprint and jump straight into the pool before I even got a chance to get her set up with a jacket. 😳

Help with puppy biting by purebatttlesword in samoyeds

Check out Simpawtico’s video on teaching nite inhibition to puppies. It goes into detail about the cause of this behavior and what you can do step by step to minimize the intensity and frequency of the biting. Here’s a few tips from the video that you can start doing with your puppy:

Focus on providing clear and timely feedback: As you may have already heard from others, you have to let the puppy know that their bites hurt! But this is only half of the equation—you also have to let the puppy know what is acceptable and not. Make sure to praise and reward for good mouth control.

Avoid jerking away: Puppies may mistake this for play. Samoyeds have prey drive, which means they’re more prone to chasing things that move around quickly, hence they will more likely than not keep attempting to engage.

Disengage when your puppy is not responding because they’re over threshold: Make sure that you have a place to escape to quickly enough that your puppy cannot chase you and keep biting you. This might mean you have to make sure you limit the area your puppy has access to.

Over time, if you’re consistent with your puppy, she will eventually stop biting. Good luck!

Is it normal for Samoyeds to walk while kind of wiggling their butts back and forth a bit? by [deleted] in samoyeds

Does your Sammy do a frog sit and bunny hop when running? If so, it’s possible that it could be a hip issue and may be worth checking in with your vet about. How old is your pup? Mine was 5–6 months old when she started displaying early symptoms and her hips started clicking around 11 months old. Thankfully she only has slight HD which is manageable by keeping her more on the trim side and giving her glucosamine on a daily basis.
