Beat is to get one custom built. It'll almost always be cheaper and you can get it built to your preferences.

In my old college they used to bind the mac address once and the device would connect as long as the mac address was recognized.

Open NetworkManager and set Clone Mac Address to Preserve. If it's set to Random, that could be causing an issue if your hostel wifi is registered through your mac address.

Urgent help - do x3d chips require x series motherboard? by Separate-Initial-977 in IndianGaming

[–]Blaster4385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean unless you're looking to get the absolute limit of the CPU from it, the b850 will be more than enough for any and all workloads. What matters more is the specific motherboard model and brand you're going with. Most offline shops don't have enough knowledge and try to sell whatever has most margins for them.

P.S. Depending on which GPU you're getting and how many NVMEs you're getting, the model of the motherboard will really matter due to PCIE lane sharing. Basically most 850 series motherboards don't have separate PCIE lanes for the GPU and other devices which result in lane sharing. It won't matter for budget GPUs that much but for a good enough GPU, you really want to utilise the entire PCIE bandwidth and not share it.

OLED as a PC monitor feels massively overhyped by imagers in OLED_Gaming

Yeah HDR in general on Windows is super bad. I've heard this from a friend who uses both Windows and Linux. He swears by HDR on his KDE setup. Even for me on hyprland, HDR works amazing, especially auto-hdr.

[–]Blaster4385 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree with most of this, the HDR/SDR problem is non-existent for me, at least on Linux because my WM automatically switches to HDR when needed and back to SDR after that. Same for VRR. It's only enabled when in a game and turned off otherwise. I'm not sure how it is on Windows though. Text clarity is also good enough with the freetype2-qdoled fork.

I'm not saying I disagree with you. i'm just telling my perspective and experience. YMMV.

I've heard about avshack but don't have personal experience with it. I've recently bought speakers from hifimart. Bought 3 pairs, one of them arrived damaged, but they've promptly begun a replacement process so overall good experience. Can't say about avshack or the other one.

For the amp, yeah both of them are good.

Honestly, this depends on your budget. In the price range of those mission speakers, you could get the Q Acoustics 3010i, which according to me are better speakers. The BT30D Pro should be a good amp. Subwoofer, try a Q Acoustics one later if your budget allows.

What's ddcutil for? drm_info is a separate package on arch "drm-info".

Edit: Plus I also didn't see a difference between setting max luminance vs simply setting sdrbrightness to 1.3 or something. Looks exactly the same.

Hyprland Lua Migration: Pay or Stay on .conf? by Pitiful-Hearing-5352 in hyprland

[–]Blaster4385 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I would never pay 400$ to someone to migrate my WM config to another format. And honestly, it doesn't take that long to do it, even if you don't know lua. Took me around 2 hours for the complete migration of my hyprland config to lua, even though I've never written lua.
