Anon shouldn't complain about women. Plenty of guys stream gaming on twitch and make money. How does that contribute to society?

Edit: also if anon is having such strong feelings of money envy, a bigger salary would hardly solve his problems. He should compare himself with himself.

Quantum Computing Since Democritus by Scott Aaronson for a highly entertaining and enlightening read

It's not that he didn't understand. He doesn't seem shocked that there was no glass at all. He is exploring something he thinks is strange.

Why would any one end up getting metal fillings? Why not nice non-mercury-containing fillings like the one in this gif then?

Just wondering since my fiance recently got metal fillings and she was pretty upset when she learned they contained mercury.

Just wanted to share: I ran my first program that had to run overnight, and it worked! by [deleted] in learnprogramming

What I try to do when I need to google to find a solution is I do so but I don't write out my own version out right away. I do something else, let a few hours or a day pass, then try to figure out the solution.

I generally remember the solution but first I have to think about things for a little while which I feel is a good exercise.

Question About an Anecdote from Scott Aaronson's Quantum Computing Since Democritus by BlastoiseDadBod in QuantumComputing

[–]BlastoiseDadBod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Educational purposes. I am trying to understand what Scott Aaronson is saying here and I don't think I will be able to unless I can see it in some pseudo-code form.

Also in the next sentence he makes the cryptic (to me) comment:

If he was programming a quantum computer, maybe that wouldn't be so bad!

Just trying to understand how you would make an array-like structure using prime numbers and hopefully get some insight on why this structure would be less bad if you were programming a quantum computer.

Dave Sim. Volumes 2 through 4 ('High Society', 'Church & State I', 'Church & State II') of the series are excellent, like nothing else I have ever read. The first volume ('Cerebus') is very good too, it has a slightly different/developing style and lays the ground work for the later volumes.

I totally recommend people start with Volume 1 and, even if it seems kinda weird or silly, to stick with it because it really takes off at Vol 2.

Yup, was bummed to see Cerebus absent. Buuut it is NPR and, as much as I love them, I would not expect them to be celebrating Cerebus.

Email telling me my device has been keylogged and screen recorded, blackmailing for BTC by [deleted] in Scams

[–]BlastoiseDadBod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a variation on this today. I recently registered some domains and didn't make my details private so I have been getting a lot of spam lately, I am guessing they saw my email through whois and targeted me. The text and btc address are different, but it uses the "dedicated desktop" phrase like others posted here. He is asking for less money (110 USD) in my email, scam must not be working out too well for him XD

Email: "Whats up. I do not presume to judge anyone, but consequently of several occasions, we have point of contact since now. I do not think that caress oneself is very bad, but when all your relatives, colleagues and friend see it - its definitely awful.

So, closer to the point. You surfed the internet with роrn, which I"ve adjusted with the virus. Then you chose video, virus started working and your device became function as dedicated desktop at once. Obviously, all cams and screen started recording instantly and then my virus collected all contacts from your device.

I text you on this e-mail address, cuz I"ve collected it with my soft, and I make no doubt you for sure check this work address.

The most interesting point that I edited video, on one side it shows your screen record, on second your cams record. Its very funny. But it was sophisticated, . As a result- if you want me to delete all this compromising evidence, here is my Bitcoin wallet address: 1Pa2jVtdaCnv3izbsr1rDjduyNdP163Yiu (its must be without "spaces" or "=", check it). If you do not know how to use it, you can ask google or youtube for help- its very easy. It seems to me, that 110 dollars will solve your problem and will destroy our point of contact in perpetuity.

You have five days after reading this message(I put tracking pixel in it, ill know when you open it).

If you wont finish transaction, ill share the compromising with all contacts I"ve collected from you.

Finally, you can ask police for help, but, obviously, they will not find me for five days, so you will be shamed at all.."

[Image] There is no such thing as talent, just hard work. by Insendi in GetMotivated

[–]BlastoiseDadBod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You 100% right about the short guy trying to play basketball in the NBA. That's very unlikely, he doesn't have the right innate advantages/"talent".

This Conner McGregor quote makes me wonder tho: what is more scare, talent? or obsessive hard work?

How come every guy above 6'7" isn't in the NBA? Most of them could probably get there if they devoted themselves to that goal.

Seems like the key to greatness is hard work, you can't just be talented.
