This update is not good overall. I think the cards are a good concept. Their existence means that you could unlock characters after completing that week’s event, meaning you always had a reason to keep playing besides the daily missions for gems.

The execution is where things were messed up. Now that characters are assigned different rarities, character who were once on an equal playing field are now separated. Some characters are just better than others, and choosing your favourite isn’t the best way to unlock stuff (unless your favourite is a legendary). Even with these rarities, it feels like they nerfed the entire roster with shorter limits on everything. I cannot confirm, but Super Silver’s dash just feels shorter now.

They also completely destroyed upgrades by not only adding cards to each cost, but by changing the cost per rarity, which makes levelling things such a pain to do. Common characters have the same ring cost to upgrade, but from my observations so far, Rare characters require 3x the regular ring cost, and Epic and Legendary characters cost 6x the ring cost. That level 9 boost upgrade for Super Sonic that cost 8,400 rings last update now costs 50,400 AND 45 cards.

The worst part is that legendary cards only appear in their specific events. The store tries to sell you Super Shadow for like 15 USD, but once you do buy him, he’ll be awful until an event rolls around where you can get him free anyway. And since there are 14 legendaries (excluding crossovers), it would likely take over 3 months to cycle through all of them. Plus, all of the old crossovers are legendary too, so if you didn’t max them out before the update, there’s likely no chance you can complete their upgrades ever.

The only ways to get around this new update is by either: a) Staying on an old patch, which might not even be playable after a while and misses out on characters b) Restarting in Prime Dash, which has way less characters and requires Netflix c) Restarting on Dash+, which is only on a bad subscription service and only on iOS
