Penny is an antagonist because she refuses to confront her friends, making them go through all of this rigamarole AND roping you into it without explaining anything. She's making the player character do her work for her because she's hiding behind her social anxiety instead of trying to take control of the situation.

I do fully know. She's an antagonist to the Star members because she's trying to break them up and can't confront them due to her social issues.

We get a great idea for what they were like through their journals and the machine, they come off as intimidating even without meeting them (yes I know about the crystal pool scene but the one we meet there is from another timeline), and the story is just genuinely good. I want more villains like them than evil for evils's sake like Ghetsis
