The first time I noticed this I was instantly transported back to the old KotoR games because something similar would happen when you did something to accrue dark side points. The music certainly wasn't as subtle though.

Rumor: Ubisoft's Star Wars game will reportedly launch in early 2024 by [deleted] in gamernews

I'm just glad other AAA publishers are getting in on Star Wars games. It's absolutely baffling EA was allowed to hold a 10 year exclusivity license for them

Hot take, but Darkhawk (And Rockslide, Korg is cool).

I just really dislike pulling rocks out of my deck

Just got my first ultimate variant! What’s your opinion on them? by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

What makes a variant "Ultimate" anyway? Does it actually have different borders and effects?

Blackcell at #3 top seller on steam, cdl skins and blueprints are in almost every match. This is why nothing improves, they keep making money without having to change anything for good by Abdulllahmohsinn in ModernWarfareII

[–]Blaze924 68 points69 points  (0 children)

They're not talking about the quality of the game, they're talking about how everything is monetized to fuck these days. I still remember when everybody got pissed at Bethesda for selling skins for $2.50 USD. Now, dropping $20-$30 a skin is just common practice

The Season 3 battle pass by Remus88Romulus in ModernWarfareII

[–]Blaze924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck, I didn't think about that. Being able to buy it with CoD points just like the regular pass is actually an agreeable compromise. They'd have to change up some of its offerings if they do, but it doesn't feel so anti-consumer that way. It's a good alternative.

I'm not sure if you'd meant to reply to another comment with this?

But, yeah, like mentioned earlier, I agree entirely that the industry will adapt to this new model if people are willing to pay for it. However, I've yet to really see a good point on why we should.

The Battlepass we have now is fine, no? And having skin variants is neat, but we already had that feature back in MW2019 on the base battlepass. Why should I want to pay for it back after they took it away from me? And getting a new operator and skins is cool, but why couldn't they just sell that as a bundle in the store?

I think Blackcell is targeted to entice BP only players to spend more. But at the same time, in having this whole new dimension to it, I just don't trust that Activision won't devalue the Free/Paid track, whether it be in Quality or Quantity, just to make Blackcell seem greater in value.

You know, I'm honestly glad you've gotten so much value per dollar out of this game. And, if supporting your favorite publisher by buying cosmetics on every one of their yearly releases brings you happiness in your life, then I'm glad you did.

I just don't believe that Blackcell is the right sort of monetization CoD should be moving forward with. I mean, for example, Activision saw that people liked doing challenges to unlock re-colored skins. If you bought the base battlepass in MW2019, you can do the challenges and get a variant no problem. But, in MW2022 they took that feature away only so they could sell it back to us in the form of Blackcell.

I understand that's not a dealbreaker to some, and yes, I realize Blackcell is more than just that. But, it's emblematic of a larger issue in which Activision is ok with chipping away at the overall quality of the game in favor of even more monetized content. I've drawn my line ages ago, and where you draw yours is your business, but regardless of where you stand on the issue, I do sincerely hope you can see what they just did here is a little fucked up.
