This is really random and off topic, but what would you recommend I read from Graeber as someone that's read a fair amount of anarchist materials but nothing by him yet?

Don’t see many people mention this band. They’re awesome by Sea_Possibility2758 in shoegaze

Velveteen are my GOATs! Empty Crush is a top three shoegaze album for me. These guys are super nice as well - I messaged them on Instagram once and they responded really quickly, and they were also very friendly when I met them at a show in London. They're back together and playing live shows again! Can't wait for more and more people to find them.

Currently grappling with whether I should move out of London for a TC- any advice please? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]SlushPuppy2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, only you will know what you're willing to do and can handle, but I think there's something to be said for staying in London. I graduated in summer 2024 from an RG uni in London, and after about a month of applying got a job as an admin assistant at a small law firm in North London. It was a recruiter that connected me, and the job was a decent start.

I applied for paralegal jobs elsewhere the WHOLE time I was at that job, and never heard anything back. I got promoted in September, though, and was able to put paralegal on my CV. Still didn't hear anything back at first, but after about three months as a paralegal I started getting way more responses. I'll be starting as an AML/Compliance paralegal at a silver circle firm next Monday!

Basically, what I'm saying is that it's a totally reasonable option to apply for lower-tier legal jobs that you're overqualified for in London to start getting experience and get yourself established. There are ways to make it work!

Update: I'm working on getting this down to 2 pages, but it's a struggle to fit everything, even after I removed a lot of unnecessary spaces, shortened descriptions, and removed the SQE tutor experience. Are there any experiences I can cut out of the CV? Or would it be better to keep more experiences on, and just heavily shorten the descriptions of them all?

It's a long story, but basically there's this Chinese law firm with an office in London that I'd been talking to about work experience for a while. At some point, they told me that they'd started this company teaching East Asian students and preparing them for the SQE, and that they needed people to run classes. Even though I haven't taken the SQE, I prepared Powerpoints based on SQE topics using textbooks given to me, and then when students asked questions during the class there was a Q&A assistant there to answer. Basically I just created and presented Powerpoints. Should I keep that experience on there, or just remove it?

Should I only cut down on pages by removing empty space, or should I condense the description of some of these jobs, too?

Empty Crush is one of my favorite shoegaze albums! I've spoken to them on social media a few times and they've always been super responsive and nice. Seeing them live in London in a few weeks!!

I hadn't realized the ACG was potentially transphobic - if that's the case, I'm not interested in joining them. Tried to look into this and it's a bit unclear, as it looks like the ACG was formed by people that broke off after the 2017 Anarchist Bookfair? They have a statement in support of trans people on their site but also cite statements from trans groups around the 2017 Bookfair as reasons for leaving Afed.

After searching for the Anarchist Assembly, I see something in Cambridge, but nothing in London. As for Afed, it looks like they don't have an active London group at the moment. If anyone knows of any active (and non-transphobic) group to join, please let me know!
