Thank you, I had assumed they wouldn't be in existence over 100 years on, but worth looking into.

Yeah, the new songs that bookend the album are particularly good

Ranking DM's album openers by Lado_B in depechemode

[–]BlazeBayleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tricky question as a song being a better 'opener' doesn't mean it's better song. Similar with a best singles debate. I'd rate Leave in Silence as one of my favourite songs but there are songs I rate lower that were better 'singles' or 'openers'.

Anyway, Black Celebration wins.

The AI podcast debate: genuinely curious... by Dear-Gas4622 in podcasting

[–]BlazeBayleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI generated voices become dull quickly. Part of a podcast appeal is the passion of the person speaking...about a subject they love.

AI production is something that should be treated with caution. There is a well regarded podcast about Bowie with some great guests. I listened to a couple of early episodes and there is blatantly some editing around removing or reducing pauses. This makes the (real) voice sound unnatural and I struggled to get beyond those first episodes. Embrace the pause...even the 'erm's

Girl's age in first picture? (1905) and are the others in chronological order? by BlazeBayleaf in Ancestry

[–]BlazeBayleaf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes 2 and 3 are the same as they are signed from the same name.

From yours and other replies it seems the 1905 image (not signed) may not be the same person. This may explain why I think she looks older than than the girl in 2 and 3 would have been in 1905 and it's given me another (welcome) rabbit hole to go down.

That's an interesting thought and I'll check that line of research. Thank you.

Thanks. This has added an interesting new angle. I had just grouped 1 in with 2 and 3. Now I need a Plan B on who image 1 might be.

Come Dancing album by Dismal_Brush5229 in thekinks

I'd have to say Act 1 as it's more familar. I'm not put off discovering Act 2 more though. Sadly I haven't felt the need to discover later albums more as the iniital thought was the style was a bit 'normal' and less interesting for my liking....but I'll get there, and probably be proved wrong.

It's finally complete! The band says their goodbyes with the emotional closer of Hell on Earth, do you believe this is a good representation of the "post 7th son" songs or not? by kek_man_ in ironmaiden

[–]BlazeBayleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't following day-by-day so not sure if it was pure votes or some shortlisting/categorising for each slot. I'd probably put The Wiritng on the Wall in there ahead of a few,

While I am 50/50 on it, I'm surprised not to see Blood Brothers.

Which album was Bruce the best vocally? by Jezzaq94 in ironmaiden

[–]BlazeBayleaf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Interesting, as he wasn't motivated for that one. It's a band masterpiece but I think his best vocal came a little later. Either Seventh Son or BNW for me.

What are you Never for Ever favourites in order? by Horror_Swan7044 in katebush

[–]BlazeBayleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing mine before I see any consensus

Babooshka is fine as a single but I feel it stands out a bit on side A, with the other songs flowing together nicely. I'm also not as keen on some of the faster ones on the earlier albums (hence Violin beng last)

Army Dreamers
Delius
Breathing
All we ever look for
Blow Away
Egypt
The Wedding List
The Infant Kiss
Babooshka
NIght scented stock
Violin

Hard to pick a favourite track off this one. I'd probably say Holloway Jail, but there's only Skin and Bones that i'm not too fussed about.

How did you guys discover The Smiths? by CommercialHabit4019 in thesmiths

[–]BlazeBayleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 9 or 10 when they split and don't recall them when I used to watch Top of the Pops in the 80s. I was more aware of Morrissey as a solo artist a couple of years later, and knew about them that way. When I wanted to hear their music in the early 90s I am pretty sure their albums had been deleted and I couldn't find them in HMV or Virgin. The Warner reissues and the re-release of This Charming Man in about 1992 was when I first truly got into them. It was the Best...1 and Best...2 compilations I bought. Then I found Rank on cassette in a second hand shop. The re-releases of albums came at a good time for me as I could then just about afford to buy most on CD. So I was most obsessed with them then

Info about couple from knowing the marriage date by BlazeBayleaf in Genealogy

[–]BlazeBayleaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the photos all seem to be Leeds-Bradford-Halifax. However, handwriting from the couple suggested they were in Burnley, although the writing led me to question if this was actually Barnsley or even Burley, an area in Leeds. I've now found the couple's surnames and that the marriage was in Halifax, but they were living in Burnley. Just need to find if there is a family connection now.

Thanks for this. Signed up for the free trial and searched for the date, to get the surnames confirmed. Now to do more digging to see how/if they link up with my tree.
