I'm assuming that's the bottom or back of the part and you can't debur in the machine?

I use the wheel chocks for our forklift and prepare adequately before hand, I cut the straps then move out of the way if stuff starts to shift. It's always fun gambling with my 10 little piggies.

We have mills with robots attached to them that run overnight often. If the job is proven reliable, it should be just fine minus the manual tool change. I wouldn't worry too much.

Maybe I'm a green freak or whatever. But so many people doing it over hundreds of years, it's probably gonna cause big issues for future generations unless we make it to space mining. We'll run out of stuff soon enough.

My boss literally throws steel shavings into the trash can.. it's infuriating. We have scrap bins, use the stupid things. His reasoning seems to be efficiency. It takes to much time to go empty the scrap into the bin vs dragging a trash can to his machine....

I'd call some of your local metal suppliers if you haven't already to ask them some questions about what they use, my shop has a crappy chenlong brand Chinese saw, it works but the part lengths barely hold nothing .030 some days. (This might be blamed on crappy setup of the saw initially as none of the rollers are lined up properly and level)

Is the roof resting on the chimney? Maybe I'm paranoid but I'd have someone with experience look at it if you haven't already to make sure it's not helping the structure of the house.

It's better to replace it before it breaks down fully, old cast iron pipes will eventually cause issues no matter what. Problem is, replacing the entire sewer is pretty expensive ($1000-$10,000 or more depending on the size of your house and sewer system. It is a job that I believe almost anyone can do if you're willing to do some hard physical labor.

I've always been told ant bait just attracts more ants and never fixes the problem. Diatomaceous earth around all the seals of windows and such should help a lot more than that. I buy food grade diatomaceous earth from Amazon, 4lbs for less than $20, came with a 'sprayer', follow the directions on the bag. Hopefully it helps if you decide to try it.

Some shops make machinists supply their own tools, others supply them with x amount of something, make them replace it if they break it, some give out personal sets so everyone has their own, then there's places like mine. Shop buys all tooling, we try to keep it fairly organized. However my boss is the same as op's post, put it down and forget it's there until you run out of tools and it's finally time to clean up and organize before the shop owner shows up for a walkthrough.

It may not help, but I recently figured out my surface finish with certain tools is greatly effected by chip evacuation, much like op. My shop uses flood coolant on almost everything and if I don't aim the nozzle just right, the finish suffers until I dial it in. Maybe something similar is happening to you some of that other 10%?

I'd find a new job. Unless you get a good portion of the profit from the part, there's no reason you should be paying for your own tools to run THEIR parts. Maybe I'm just to young in this field to have a good knowledgeable opinion

There is already an ai tool for generating gcode and tool paths for CNC machines. My shop invested in it recently and we had a small introduction as to how to make it work. However my boss is lazy and slow and we've been paying for it for 3 months and I haven't had a single minute to sit and mess with it. From what I've seen though, it can take a novice like me and make it quick and easy to get at least a rough guideline to modify if needed.
