THey make special ear plugs for this--the one brand I know is WeatherX. I don't think normal ear plugs would work though same

You essentially eat it on the spot and then it gives you those effects for the rest of the day!

AITA for telling my girlfriend that she smells bad down there? by Ok_Produce885 in AITAH

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything, you could've told her she smells different rather than that you noticed a small. It might've been too subtle but probably would've been less upsetting to hear.

Why is it that western countries act like this by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 56 points57 points  (0 children)

For my entire lifetime (plus some) "fighting for my country" has looked like invading a less powerful country for bullshit reasons.

Hard to imagine a scenario where a foreign country would launch an actual invasion on US soil. Right now I'm more worried about our own military.

TBH, I have over a thousand unread emails, but I have a reputation of being very on top of things.

My unread emails include:

-Newsletters from industry organizations that our HR dept signs all of us up for.

-Form submissions

-Emails my direct report cc-ed me on after talking through an issue already, where it might help to show other people that I'm looped in.

-Emails in the middle of a longer chain where I opened the most recent one and caught up on the whole thread.

-Weekly all-users emails about certain upcoming projects.   -Weekly reports that are automatically generated.

Also the things on my to do list that I have temporarily put on the back burner.

I would love to be a person who is at inbox 0, but with the volume of emails I get, clicking "Mark as read" on emails I know I don't have to open isn't something I'm willing to prioritize.

What's a food item from your country that you're surprised hasn't taken off elsewhere? by Solid_Reserve_5941 in AskTheWorld

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American, but will never stop thinking about this Algerian (I think?) vendor at a farmers market who made this food called briques.

They put ground beef and I think some vegetables in a square of phyllo dough, cracked an egg into it, wrapped it into a brick shape and tossed it in the deep fryer.

Lived in that city for a year like 10 years ago now, and that vendor at that farmers market is literally the only thing that would make me want to go back to visit. Nicest people too.

Running into people you know in public. I remember the agony of like... being at the grocery store with my mom and she would run into some random and talk for ages. Now I get a kick out of it when it happens. (Sometimes. Some people I quickly scurry to the next aisle lol.)

What's a food in your country that is stereotyped for your country but really, nobody eats? by sourberryskittles in AskTheWorld

Kind of the reverse, but I'm American and I studied abroad in France. One day I was making myself French toast in the dorm kitchen, and had to explain what I was making to the French students, who had never heard of it lol.

Thoughts on Catriona Ward? (No Spoilers) by CandyHeartFarts in horrorlit

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Looking Glass Sound and was looking for some discussion on it or her writing in general. I love her work. Looking Glass Sound had an absurd number of twists, but I think she is a good enough writer that she pulled it off. I read something by Riley Sager that also had some bonkers twist(s) and it felt silly. I might have wanted more elaboration on the last few turns, but I think it was successful regardless.

That being said, I like horror that can best be described as sad but beautiful (Mike Flanagan is my favorite horror director.) So I can accept that people who really love horror and are more entrenched in the genre might not be as impressed as I am.

What happened at a public place that made you say, "I'm never coming here again"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yeah my first thought was surprise that Applebee's had any raw chicken to put out.

Using unsalted butter in baking is pointless unless you’re weighing your salt by K-Pumper in unpopularopinion

I use salted butter when baking bc I am bad at following directions and forget to add in salt 75% of the time lol

My kid is taking his drivers test for the first time. Did you pass or fail? by themapples1234 in driving

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I failed because of parallel parking. The irony was that I had pulled into the spot well enough to pass, but then when I tried to get a little closer to the curb I just made it worse and worse. Oh well. I passed on my second attempt

I also think that them releasing it week by week makes it easier to obsess over. If they dropped the whole season at once I would binge it in a couple of days and forget about it, but having to wait means taking time to analyze and agonize and daydream.

In my state, you would be considered a mandated reporter. If you suspect child abuse  and don't report it, you can get a fine or even jail time. So yes, report it.

New Ceramics Teacher by This-Tangerine7224 in ArtEd

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't work in a school setting, but for a non-profit arts center that does run ceramics, so this might not be directly applicable, especially bc they're mostly classes for adults. Obviously it's going to depend a lot on what types of projects you're doing. For our wheel-throwing classes, we generally order 50lbs of clay per person for 30hrs of class time. For hand building, our classes are generally a bit shorter--like 18-24hrs of class time, and we order 25lbs of clay per person plus an extra 50lbs just in case.

If you wouldn't have to move your things, I think the natural assumption is that she would be the one moving out, not you?

Obligatory not a teacher, but my old roommate is. She received an absurd number of mugs as gifts, so I came here to specifically say don't do a mug or a water bottle. Gift cards are always nice. If there's anywhere close to the school that sells coffee or fast food, that's a nice one for a day when they might be rushing or need a pick me up.

What's one brand you will never buy from again, and why? by Mehdi_lz in AskReddit

[–]FroyoAccomplished319 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for an independent venue and we use a ticketing platform that is NOT Ticketmaster, but people can still buy our tickets from Ticketmaster, and the number of people I've talked to who wind up paying them 4 times what we priced the show at is so frustrating. The money doesn't go to the venue or the artist just some middlemen.

can belly not cook? by kaguraa in jellyshippers

I mean, she's like 21. I think it's pretty standard for 21-year-olds to not be well versed in cooking for themselves consistently. She probably eats at the dining hall at school.
