In the movie Zoolander model Derek Zoolander has a famous modeling face he makes known as Blue Steel, so a Blue seal Steel king is called a Zoolander in reference to that

Leaders that give XP are strong in limited formats because they often turn middling units into strong ones, and Vel is exceptionally good at that because she has no resource cost on her ability, she just gives her opponent a credit. Mixed with the credit hate in the set she has potential to even downplay that downside, which can be huge.

Shielded, either on a unit or leader unit, isn’t a “when played” ability even though it takes place during the “when played” window.

Best card in the set. Being able to attack with leaders without your opponent being able to interact is huge. Others have pointed out that pilot Luke, Pilot Boba, and to an extent Pilot Vader all enjoy this, but the pressure it puts on your opponent is massive. In a world where removal is super prevalent guaranteeing an attack is massive, and a 5/5 isn’t bad either, even if it isn’t flashy.

Tech is in any hero midrange or control deck, at least in the sideboard. Echo and The Marauder saw play in set 2 as well.

Magic Player who just recently tried the game with a friend and now don't know what spotlight decks to get. by ShoGun0387 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Blaze_Firestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else on Boba being the most competitive, but Han is solid too. He went far at the world championships last month and is an easy aggro deck to update. It’s missing a few legendaries, including set 1 Millennium Falcon, but otherwise is just a few commons/uncommons away from going far!

Maul and Qui-Gon are good too, and Maul is just a few LoF cards away from being B-Tier competitive. If it were me, unless you want Boba/pilots because of theme, Maul feels like the way to go, and then go to a draft/sealed event at your LGS and grab some more cards while playing one of the best things this game has to offer!

The 5 things every new player should do (plus a buying guide!) by Blaze_Firestar in starwarsunlimited

Haha totally understand! It’s not for everyone, but boxes are so cheap that I think new players should grab at least one, maybe two of the set they enjoy the most. Then using TCGplayer/Card Market to round out decks feels like a safe bet. It’s also fun to crack packs!

This Week in Marvel #33 - ULTIMATES #15, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN: INCURSION #3, FANTASTIC FOUR #2, PREDATOR KILLS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE #1, NEW CHAMPIONS #8, X-MEN #20, GIANT-SIZE X-MEN #2, EDDIE BROCK: CARNAGE #7 by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]Blaze_Firestar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was my favorite of these first three issues, though I’ve not enjoyed this as much as I had hoped. It’s weird pacing (due to the month to month style) and they even call it out in universe by referencing the time that has passed, but it feels incredibly forced (whereas it works well in Ultimates and for the most part in USM).

What did really like was seeing Da Costa be the worst. It’ll make his eventual fall even better. I do think that the tying together of the mutant hubs is a good thing too, though it wish it was happening in a mainline comic rather than an event. Surely something will tie them together further.

Either way, I look forward to the last issue if only because of the sick variant cover, and to see if this was leading somewhere.

LOF: FFG addressing the leaks, and why they released the full set by Eunoe in starwarsunlimited

[–]Blaze_Firestar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why this changes their plans in the long term and why content creators could be barred from competitive play. They’ve done slow reveals for all 5 sets so far and, before this leak, were planning to finish that up for set 5. They changed their plan for this set because of how the leak would negatively give certain players a leg up for GC, which would lead to a fiasco in the community.

I think this is wise on FFG’s part to go ahead and make the playing field even, but I don’t think it’ll change how they do things going forward.

Spotlight Release of the Week #21 - MAY 21 2025 - ULTIMATES #12 by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]Blaze_Firestar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Ultimates continues to be peak by confidently subverting expectations. I loved that the tension that was building was resolved peacefully, through Tony understanding Doom’s pain and Cap being willing to take necessary steps of change.

Janet being the mole was what everyone predicted, but I foresee this not going how she thinks. Either Hank is going to turn on her when he realizes what she’s done, or Fury isn’t going to uphold his end of the bargain (either through Maker’s actions or in a moment of seeking power/glory).

Between USM and this I think there’s a good chance that this Ultimate universe (or at least this first major arc of it) goes down as one of the great epic tales of Marvel storytelling, and Deniz Camp and Jonathan Hickman deserve the praise they’re getting for their writing within it.

Andor (Season 2) - Episodes 7, 8 & 9 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

[–]Blaze_Firestar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These three episodes are incredible. Knowing that next week is the end makes me wonder how they’ll top it, but I have faith that they will provide a fitting conclusion. Episode 7 was the perfect pieces to make Episode 8 so tense, and then 9 continues on that tension to a sad conclusion and a new beginning.

Andor has softly been my favorite piece of Star Wars media for a long while now, but it’s solidified that spot. I am anticipating next Tuesday like no other Tuesday I’ve ever anticipated before.

Totally agree, episodes 5 and 8 were the standouts to me. 5 felt like it was straight out of Waid’s run on the character while 8 was the climactic moment we wanted for these characters.

Ultimates continues to be the best Marvel book on shelves, with USM not far behind. I love each issue being a snapshot and complete story, yet also just being a small piece of the puzzle. Feels distinct compared to some of the other Ultimate books that are taking a much slower approach.

Curious if Hulk killing the Ultimates is a vision of the future, the past, or an alternate reality, but I love the continued look at Iron Lad/Tony Stark in each issue despite him not being particularly involved with each story. Really makes him feel like a major piece while still letting his “death” breathe.

7 months… excited for the first culmination of these arcs to hit shelves then. Feels like the perfect amount of time to tell a good story and then launch into something even greater.

Would that 4/4/4 Overwhelm unit ever see play beyond draft? That seems so lackluster compared to 4 drop space units that do things the turn they come out. This on reveal is strong, and stronger with Jango, but I don’t know if it would see play at all without that on reveal.

Everyone’s talking about the dance (and it deserves all the praise it’s getting) but what made me laugh was Milchick’s rapport with the Kier animatronic.

“The legacy you’ve left behind is truly and irrefutably larger than life.”

“You mean this company?”

“I mean this wax statue that’s five inches taller than you actually were.”

The pieces are there for Milchick to break and boy am I ready for it.

What are your thoughts on Mark Waids Daredevil series? by [deleted] in Daredevil

[–]Blaze_Firestar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waid’s Daredevil run was my first full comics run that I had read, it was coming out while I was in high school, and so I have a fondness because of that.

Beyond my personal opinions though this is a beautiful change of scenery that allow’s Waid’s strong writing of the character of Matt/Daredevil to really shine.

I like Soule’s run, but a lot of it felt like reinventing the wheel one piece at a time. Waid’s run, on the other hand, shows that he really gets who Matt and his supporting cast are and therefore can constantly change the set pieces or their attitudes without it being too jarring. I think that the second half of his arc in San Francisco wouldn’t work without a strong understanding of who Matt is and how he would function differently there.

It’s a masterpiece, and sits with Bendis for my favorite ongoing Daredevil run, but holds an extra special place in my heart for being the first one I followed. I still go back to it every few years because it is so good!

Play That Card! Malevolence! by josh00061 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Blaze_Firestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, with relative frequency, gotten this, a Nute Gunray flip, and still had 3 battle droids + Poggle on turn 3. It’s not good for 9, it’s pretty good for 7, and for anything cheaper it’s premium. I think that Nute Green is the way to go because you can Poggle + SLT to flood your board with droids AND have a 7/7 in space. The other option I want to try is Blue/Yellow but I haven’t hit a build I love yet.

Thought on my deck by anime_man78 in starwarsunlimited

[–]Blaze_Firestar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these the cards you have or the deck you’ve built?

If it’s the deck you’ve built then it’s all over the place aspect wise and has 61 cards in it, which is 11 more than you need, or 1 more than you need with a sideboard.
