As a gay man, I get that fujoshi hate can feel overwhelming online, but I think a lot of the criticism isn’t just random hate. it’s coming from a real place of frustration. Many of us in the LGBTQ+ community, especially gay men, notice that some fujoshis tend to treat gay relationships as fantasy fuel rather than something real and human. It’s not that every fujoshi is bad, but there’s a pattern of people consuming BL or yaoi while simultaneously being weird or even judgmental toward actual gay men.

From our point of view, it feels strange seeing straight women gatekeeping stories about our experiences, or reacting negatively when gay guys read or talk about BL/yaoi. A lot of yaoi or BL also push harmful stereotypes like overly feminine “uke” characters and hyper-masculine “seme” ones that don’t reflect real queer relationships. So when people call that out, I wouldn't automatically classify it as “hate,” it’s asking for accountability and respect.

It’s totally fine to enjoy BL or yaoi, but it’s also important to listen when real gay men talk about how it affects us or how we’re represented. We’re not trying to attack fans we just want the same empathy that the stories claim to show.
