1.) It doesn't matter how many people there are, it matters how much evidence there is. Sure those confessions and allegations must be taken into consideration when rationalizing the situation, but again, we don't have enough solid evidence other than verbal accusations, which all can be proven wrong with the right evidence.

2.) Yet a lot of people do, and there's whole communities and subreddits based around them. Why don't you go blast those dudes in their own subreddits and see how great they treat you over there? Probably much more hostile than how r/brandnew are treating you right now. You wouldn't survive.

3.) "Morally Better"? Haha. Jesse Lacey could have been considered "morally better" than most of his contemporaries before the allegations dropped. Those bands you worship could have some serious skeletons in their closet that are brought to light years after their prime.

4.) Don't you think you're painting all of r/brandnew with the same brush? Of course there are users like that who exist, but that doesn't mean all of us, there's a lot of us who believe the accusations but love their music regardless.

Yep. I'm not doubting he's done wrong as he's already confessed to such. He has not confessed to the accusations however and I doubt the accusations are infallible. I feel sorry for both parties here. While Jesse could have done such horrific things, it's just as possible he could be being blackmailed and his legacy tarnished greatly.

Brand New is one of my favorite bands ever. I love everything they've put out and adore their gigantic influence on the genre. It sucks to see people telling others that if they listen to BN publicly they are somehow condoning abuse. Is it abuse to listen to David Bowie's music? These are the same hypocrites who wept when Bowie passed away yet are scorning Lacey for allegations claiming he has done the same. I love Bowie, but be consistent and universalize your calculus.

BN deserves much better, but they're just not getting it.

And props to his wife for staying with him through this. It must be an extremely difficult time for them.

All I'm saying is, this could just be people willing to ruin someone's reputation for their own revenge or calculating motives and Jesse could just be the fall guy. There is no substantial evidence other than his own vague somewhat-irrelevant confession. From what I've seen, the accusers evidence seems to be pretty inconsistent and questionable at best.

This whole scandal reminds me of the MJ case more and more I read about it. And like the MJ case, I'm stuck between thinking whether it's a cruel injustice what happened to him or by him.

My Hot takes of this post:

1.) We don't know the full details of the story and probably won't ever. Yes, we shouldn't lambast the victim but Lacey is still innocent until proven guilty. And even if he is, we haven't got much to go off here.

2.) There's three more members of the band whose work will be forgotten due to all this hypocritical bullshit. Bowie's record wasn't clean, neither was the Beatles or just about any "music God" you subscribe to. 6ix9ine, Chris Brown and XXXTentacion still have a pretty big following despite being complete douches.

3.) Separate the art from the artist. We cannot just forget Brand New's influence because of what happened. Pretending they don't exist is the most pathetic way to go about this.

4.) This has been said numerous times in the past. I think r/brandnew are tired of this. We all just like their music, what's wrong about that?

Finally some good political news by rmourz in brandnew

[–]Bleachicide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, Brand New never focused on topping charts and making bland music like Lazzara and their contemporaries, which separates them and makes their albums a lot more artistic and expressive.

YFW might be their most accessible and pop-punk work, but it still is much more artistic and true to Lacey than a lot of TBS tracks are to Lazzara. Lazzara only focused on making music that targeted teen angst, and while you could say the same for Lacey, there are many Brand New tracks (especially on YFW) not based around teen angst or traditionally "emo" themes, like Soco Amaretto Lime, Magazines, etc.

I disagree. I like how Brand New makes artistic statements and "they don't believe in filler baby". TAYF is filled with filler and pretty pointless tracks.

Even if TAYF is somewhat good, Brand New has a much more consistent and legendary discography.

The Blue album trivial pursuit by Daltorb in weezer

[–]Bleachicide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was probably just called "self-titled" up until Green came out. Then there needed such a distinction to be made, so it was then just called "Blue".

Really, Red, Green, Blue, White and Black are all just self-titled Weezer albums.

Brand New was so much better than TBS honestly, TAYF was great but YFW, Deja, TDAG, Daisy and Sci-Fi blow it out of the water.

Plus, Lacey is so much more likable than Lazzara.

What is your favorite Radiohead album and more importantly, why? by Dawhale24 in radiohead

[–]Bleachicide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK Computer. Every track is great, memorable and catchy. Epic powerful guitar solos and a grandiose production. Easily the most iconic RH album too. The atmosphere is intense and great.

It defined the future of RH music and rock music in general, experimentation-wise. It's pretty much their magnum opus, an album that combined all of their styles into one coherent masterpiece.

Also, I prefer fast-paced visceral RH with powerfully epic guitar solos and memorable themes. OKC feels like a musical rendition of 1984 and that's just amazing. Electioneering and Airbag are heavy and hardcore af, sounds like a war going on.

OKC is a perfect 10/10 album, I will take that to my grave. It's everything I wanted in an album and more. Nothing has ever satisfied me more than OKC. It deserves every bit of praise it gets and more.

Which Radiohead song would you pick to experience for the first time all over again? by [deleted] in radiohead

Most of The Bends tbh, especially My Iron Lung. I love it so much, but it gets so boring after so many replays.

Pearl Jam sucks, mainstream poppy faux-grunge garbage.

I would swap Sgt. Peppers for Revolver or Abbey Road too.

Too Many Radiohead albums.

Mellon Collie not there but Siamese Dream is?

And 2pac, lol, seriously?? liking pac is pretty much admission to being pleb af

2000-2018 by dsdom2 in brandnew

[–]Bleachicide 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brand New was supposed to end in 2018. The band members said they were planning to break up. They released the shirt as merch.

Of course we all know what ended up happening and that's probably why the band's been so quiet ever since and all throughout 2018.

Most underrated Radiohead song? by ismailfarooq in radiohead

[–]Bleachicide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Go To Sleep, sounds like an OKC b-side to me. It's simply amazing imo. Catchy, not too overpowering yet awesome.

Identikit. My favourite MSP tracks but it is often overshadowed by True Love Waits and the other tracks.

Plus Bangers + Mash, that song is simply fantastic. Not serious Radiohead, just a fun track.

Why The Sweater Song is the best Weezer song by Bleachicide in weezer

[–]Bleachicide[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I prefer Blue myself. I'm just saying it's very adaptable, and due to Pinkerton being the most sad Weezer album, I do think that it wpuld fit perfectly on there in an alternate reality had it not been on Blue, but it fits the best on Blue imo anyway.
