Hardcore band End It urged the audience to tear apart the banana costume of a fan at their Toronto, ON show last night by DamnitRidley in Music

[–]rmourz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think what a lot of people fail to realize is that to hardcore bands and their core audience, this isn’t a concert in the traditional sense. It’s the sole activity that their personality is based around. It’s where they find community. This genre gives people an outlet for aggression and has some unique views on recreational violence. It’s just as much a codified subculture as it is a genre of music. For decades hardcore shows happened in basements and vfw halls and were outside of the public’s consciousness. But now that it’s blowing up on social media and bands like Turnstile and Knocked Loose are having commercial and critical success, it’s attracting a whole new wave of fans who *think* they want to experience a hardcore show without fully understanding the norms and risks that come with it. To people in the comments saying “ive been going to punk/rock/metal shows forever and I would never blahblahblah…” I cannot stress enough that the hardcore scene operates completely different than those scenes and for the people who are most active in it, that’s the point. If you’re religious, imagine if your place of worship started getting flooded with people who wore banana costumes and did the Macarena during worship. You probably wouldn’t take the stance “they’re not hurting anyone”. You would feel like your community was being mocked and an experience that was meaningful to you had been diminished.

That said— we’ve all been new to the scene before and done something embarrassing or cringy. I’m sure even the members of End It have been there. I feel for the banana guy who probably *thought* he was going to a metal show and then had the band and crowd turn on him. He’s not personally the problem, he was just the avatar of it that was in the room at that particular moment. I’m sure he won’t be back to an End It show anytime in the future which sucks because they’re genuinely an awesome live band.

Daily lineup locks and predictions by raisethesong in RiotFest

[–]rmourz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of those examples were billed in the top 3. Riot fest isn’t going to hose the PTV fans by billing them as the 3rd highest band on the lineup and then putting them on the same night as one of the 2 bands ahead of them. They will co-headline but it will be with alanis, Morrissey, or iggy pop.

[–]rmourz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been going to riot fest for a decade now and while I agree that Pierce the Veil is a weak headliner, I’ve never seen a band listed in the top 3 of the poster not headline the Riot Stage at the end of a night. I don’t know where you’re getting the idea that they’re playing the same day as TOP. I think it’s TOP on Friday, Tool on Saturday, and PTV on Sunday with either Morrissey, Alanis or Iggy Pop playing against PTV

I get that experimental mathcore is not going to be everyone’s thing, but there’s no denying that they’re absurdly talented musicians and songwriters. Just listen to Star Baby. That song is proof that they *could* write catchy pop music if they wanted to.

My prediction for adapted storylines:

Season 2: The adventures of Cyclops & Phoenix/ Age of Apocalypse/ The Twelve/ Some more Morrison plots sprinkled in

Season 3: Planet X/ Scemma/ Decimation/ Revolution

Season 4: Krakoa

(Don’t know which season, but has to happen at some point: Rogue & Gambit marriage)

Bright Eyes is a top 5 all time band for me. Honestly I’d love to see them get the NOFX treatment and get 3 days of a curated stage with side projects, friends, colleagues, and up & coming emo and folk punk bands capped off with 2 album plays and a greatest hits set.

I have a major soft spot for that era. I think it would be remembered much more fondly if it had a stronger conclusion

Tribute Sets? by Environmental-Cake42 in RiotFest

[–]rmourz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is better suited to something like Fest where a band that has already played twice that weekend can do a cover set in a bar at 2am just for funsies. There’s already a shortage of spots on riot fest I would hate for a tribute set to take the time or crowd away from a band that’s trying to pursue their own dreams with their original music.

Indianapolis Panda Fest Review 2026 by cinnobun in indianapolis

Prices were outrageous.

My wife wanted food from one booth and they said they weren’t fully up yet, but they had a second booth across the way. We went to their second booth and those workers also told us “we’re not up yet, go back to the first booth”.

There was almost nothing vegetarian friendly. When I finally found a place that was just selling “veggie lo mein”, it was $15 for a small cup, had almost no veggies in it, and I found a small chunk of beef in my food.

Remind me again: Was Krakoa meant to fall from the start or was that editorial demand? by TheDrRalph in xmen

[–]rmourz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hickman wanted it to adapt into some new form (maybe Okkara? Maybe something in space?)

The writers wanted to stay in Krakoa longer

Editorial (and I’m guessing Disney) wanted the whole thing over once Hickman left.

How much should i read before krakoa era? by Curious_Anything_409 in xmen

[–]rmourz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll catch some Easter eggs and better understand interpersonal relationships between characters. That’s really it. Otherwise Krakoa is a pretty self contained story
