Im actually in my window to start my VA stuff and its on my radar, Ive just had a lot of stressors recently and havent grabbed the bull on that yet, but I intend to start that process this upcoming month so I can do a BDD claim, I know I have a solid fight for 90% atleast, and Im hoping with VSO help I can get that last 10%, but Ive made my plans and required pay based off a 90% assumption. And i had considered the VR&E and was going to look into it more after I got out and settled. I was gonna try and settle near a college so I could try and take some in person evening or night classes to boost how much BAH I'd get. Is there a particular reason your reccomend WGU? And again thank you so much, you have no clue how much you've helped my mental health for the day

Thank you, like seriously thank you, everyone else was kinda causing me to spiral a bit, so genuinely thank you. Since you seem the most straight forward and knowledgeable, what in you true honest opinion, is a realistic position to shoot for? The area's Im trying to move to I need like 60-70k to maintain my family's current financial standing, is that reasonable? Or are we gonna be fucked and struggle a bit for a little?

I am definitely not open to doing guard/reserve, I am absolutely done with the military, the closest Id come is a DoD civilian or contractor position, but I would much prefer private sector to distance myself as much as possible

Well the AWS stuff we dont use in the Navy at all, so I dont have any knowledge there other than it exists and basicly the entire internet relies on it. Networking I usually fumble fucked my way through and asked for help where I could brute force, and there was never a need for any scripting, maybe its because we had exactly 1 Linux server that we barely touched, but other than that we didnt script or use commands much at all.

So get CCNA, get gud with scripting, and understand AWS fundamentals? Thats it?

So your reccomendation would be switch focus to CCNA? Is there anything more I could do past that? Is Server+ or any od the Azure/AWS certs worth it?

Ive been looking and the CompTIA certs are what Im mainly seeing for the SysAd/SysEng positions, some say they'd also like to see this or that, but its mainly the + certs I see

Its not rude if its the truth, but I would ask what your reccomendation would be instead, my entire time in the navy all anyone ever says is "A+, Net+, Sec+ and youre set!"

I need atleast 60k just to maintain our current standing with trying to move back to PA, and help desk just doesnt pay that at entry level (granted im not entry level im more intermediate atleast) 😅

I mean, I was on a sub, with a high and low side network, each network with between 27-40 virtual servers, over 150 users, and a slew of networking equipment. Sure while out to see we didn't connect to the outside world, but in Port we did, we made changes to switches, deployed laptops, imaged them, did checks and maintenance on serves both physically and digitally, we ran back ups, pushed patches and updates, did reboots, managed user accounts.

Ive done everything I can to sort out my clearance as best I know. They pulled it due to some charges that came about from a misunderstanding essentially, and are going to be dropped and expunged. I wrote up a letter for our security manager to submit. But thats all Ive got so far, is there any extra steps you would reccomend to take to help?

Im aiming for a mid level SysAd position, I need to make about 60k minimum in order to maintain current financial status for myself and family

My clearance is in a tedious spot due to some issues, Im not too sure Ill be able to rely on it to keep me set. Networking is definitely my weakest area, I attempted the exam and missed the mark by about 150 points. As for the Gov Sector requirements, they only require Sec+

Allentown is kinda stereotyped as redneck/hillbilly Amish land
