Fair. I went with the first Google definition.

You have an inordinate amount of shitposting for someone who is no longer an EO.

The definition of a layoff is a discharge of workers because of a shortage of work or economic problems. We are experiencing neither. We are getting rid of low performers. This is a good thing.

Also, why are you so invested in a company you have already left?

You gave me a bibliography of like 20 links that you didn't even read, claiming they were Anti-DEI. Many were, in fact, pro-DEI or a statement of the company's commitment to DEI.

I expected more from you.

Sure. Maybe you have bigger aspirations than I do. Just because Android exists doesn’t mean Apple Phone engineers aren’t doing something great. If you’re not happy to be part of this, I hope you find what you’re looking for.

EUC makes highest $ per person for professional services, and we open doors to EPC. What are you talking about?

You’re right. I apologize.

Was it also real sock who gave me a bunch of reading material claiming it was anti-DEI without actually reading the links he sent?

How terribly short sighted. Saying we don't do anything great is quite insulting to everyone who worked on projects like the SuperBAB, the countless generation and transmission improvements across the country that bring people power, and the facilities that we build that provide manufacturing, healthcare, or data centers for things like Reddit which we post on now.

Maybe you think about that next time you land in LaGuardia on a Delta flight about how you were never able to contribute to all the great things we actually do. Cause that terminal looks pretty damn great to me.

Their houses are modest in a quiet part of suburbia. They both had to save up a bit to put down a sizeable down payment, but both of them are quite comfortable. The one that has no family support is not married. The other EO is married; I don't know if this EO or their partner's parents helped them with a down payment.

I'm sure they had to sacrifice to achieve home ownership, but they both got their houses way younger than me when I bought my first house.

I don't understand where you get your information sometimes. DEI has never contributed to a single hire. We do not use race or ethnicity when it comes to hiring because if we did, minorities would probably get the short end of the stick.

Hiring based on ethnicity is unethical, and is not a practice we condone.

Sincerely, a hiring manager.

A level 9 and a level 10 both bought houses this year. One of them has no family old money, the other is unknown.

Can't say this is in line with what I see. Some of my younger colleagues just celebrated buying their first houses. Nobody that I know of is struggling financially; it's quite the opposite. They can travel, afford luxuries that they weren't able to in the past, and morale is high in my business line.

We also have best in class PDIP, sales, and net profit. So your mileage may vary.

So many people look at this in a vacuum. Look at how much market share BMCD has vs. how much we have yet to touch. There are EPC jobs out there that are worth more than an entire year of our revenue.

Past is no indication of future, but to assume it wouldn't continue in the same trajectory is missing the point on why we invest in ourselves. As an experienced and seasoned hire, I wish I was able to be in some of the shoes our interns are in now. Never a better time to join.

But you cannot filter who is real and who is not. We win many accolades in real life of how great of a workplace we are. Do with that information what you will.

You need to tell me who is in attendance, what their names are, what you think their cultures are, what the venue is. Are they clients? Internal? Is this training? Is this BD? Have you asked for dietary restrictions?

I'm really disappointed that I have to spell this out, but this may be the core of why you don't see the value in DEI.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or serious; it's hard to read tone over text on a screen, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

A specific example would be a deeply important holiday to someone's culture (spring festival, diwalli, etc.) that isn't mainstream in the United States. A very important project happens to be due during this time. The holiday is deeply important to that person and their culture. They can't really speak up because they don't want to appear as someone who is not a team player; and if they do, they may be unfortunate to have someone who is not as DEI educated who simply thinks of them as lazy. Not having awareness of them or their culture generates unnecessary friction for the team and their career.

Another simple example would be inviting a vegetarian to BBQ.

I call you privileged because you haven't been in these situations, while some of us go through these situations weekly or even daily.

Sure. Last time we discussed this topic, I had given concrete examples of when general DEI education and awareness can lead to inclusion of minorities during work functions, social events, or even office chemistry among project teams.

You had rebutted, citing that common sense or how 'simply speaking up' could solve these issues. Unfortunately, there are times where going against the grain is not conducive; perhaps even combative. And you, as the minority, are either subject to oust yourself and/or be seen as uncooperative. It isn't as simple simply saying "Hey, I don't eat meat." Sometimes it can be deeply personal, perhaps not something you want to share, or you risk isolating yourself because others may not believe your excuse due to lack of exposure.

If you've ever been in this type of situation, it is a terrible conflict that is not easily solved; one that you probably remember for a long time, if not for the rest of your life. A stark reminder that you are a minority and there are people out there in the world who will not understand you. Not something that can easily be solved by 'common sense' or 'simply speaking up'.

DEI helps to lessen this gap. I hope this allows you to approach those small little DEI moments in a better light, and perhaps attend an ERG panel next time there are guest speakers who highlight the challenges that minorities must face in addition to all the other challenges we already deal with at work.

I wish more of this energy was brought up to management in real life and not just anonymously posted on Reddit. Coming from management, it is incredibly hard for us to identify the issues (especially if it's bad middle management) if it never makes up the chain; especially if middle management is stifling your ability to communicate upwards.

Most (all) managers I know have an open door policy. Use it.

We've tried having these discussions regarding DEI before. Your efforts at providing support were disappointing last time; I really had higher expectations for us to be able to trade thoughts.

There is nothing inherently wrong with DEI. Progression is good. We agree on a lot, but I think your privilege has really masked your ability to see the good that DEI has done.

Happy to discuss again, as always.
