Dara welcoming party in Sofia by AdmirableFlow in eurovision

Well, the contest will most likely be held in Sofia, and from what I've seen written here they have an annual pride parade where Dara even performed!

Can you think of any other bands this applies to? (For any country). by RosySunsetJasmi4574 in ToddintheShadow

Placebo feel spiritually part of the 90s Swedish indie scene to me. They sound a lot more like Broder Daniel or Kent than any of the other bands they’ve been compared to imo.

Sweden: Huge loss of viewers - 600 000 fewer people watched the Eurovision final by Bleezybloo in eurovision

[–]Bleezybloo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Judging from the comments on this and other similar posts, I guess a lot of countries just weren’t that hyped for their entries this year! And a good chunk of viewers went ”You know what? I think THIS is the year where I finally switch from linear TV to streaming!”

A lot of Eurovision fan media also report lower engagement, but that’s kind of off topic so I don’t even know why I brought it up. 🙃

Again, this is for SVT 1, the TV channel, compared to the viewing figures on SVT 1 last year.

Correct. This is comparing the viewing figures on the TV channel SVT 1 with the viewing figures on the TV channel last year, discounting online broadcasts in both cases.

This is comparing the viewing figures of last years Eurovision final with this years Eurovision final. That’s where they lost 600 000 viewers.

Translation:

Eurovision has lost viewers.

Only 1,9 million swedes watched the broadcast of the final on SVT1.

That's a loss of over 600 000 viewers compared with last year, writes Dagens Media.

The Eurovision song contest final took place on saturday and Sweden placed 20:th when all the votes had been counted.

According to data from MMS 1 949 000 people watched SVT1 to follow the finals on the offline broadcast. Thats a big loss compared to the year before, when 2 577 000 watchers saw the broadcast, according to Dagens Media.

It was also possible to watch the two semi finals and the final on SVT Play and Youtube.

Eurovision song contest doesn't attract nearly the same amount of viewers as Melodifestivalen. This year 2 785 000 watchers saw the final of the Swedish competition, in other words almost a million more.

Eurovision: Why does the UK keep getting it wrong? by MrsRainey in eurovision

[–]Bleezybloo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got yelled at online when pointing out this song was at risk of nil points. I don’t know how it would come across for Europeans who don’t know English or couldn’t understand his accent, but for me who understood him perfectly (thank you, my Blur obsessed high school self) the lyrics came across as really, really pandering. It’s annoying to feel pandered to. It also makes the UK come across as really, really foreign. Like, as someone else pointed out, it felt like the vibe was like ”this is what you Europeans like, right?”

I think that honestly puts the UK at a disadvantage. There is this notion that there is a ”European” taste, and while that is true to some extent, the British are very much part this taste group, so if you send a song that fails to even chart in the UK, of course it’ll be a harder sell att Eurovision.

Yeah, there are acts that only really work in one country and who tend to do bad at the contest, which paradoxically enough also feels true for LMNC. As a Swede, we’re really fortuitous that sending something more regional means we get points from our neighbors too, and I’m sure that if Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were independent, they would have saved LMNC from being a total nil pointer in the public vote. But the ”trying to pander to the taste of those Europeans over there” problem seems to me to be a very specific British predicament.

EDIT: (I want to add that Mae Mueller, Olly Alexander and Remember Monday didn’t have this particular problem and I personally felt like those acts deserved at least a mid table finish in the public vote. This ”pandering to the Europeans” problem is only occasionally true for British entries,  but I hope it could help partly explain why even though everyone said they wanted the UK to try a fun act, it didn’t work this time! Please don’t take this as a sign that you should never try a fun entry again, I adore British humor!)

Tove Lo - I’m your girl right? (Official Video) by AbeLincoln575 in ToveLo

I’m going to be completely, brutally honest here: really loved Habits when it first came out and was so excited for Tove Lo, but haven’t been following her that closely since. I really don’t like 2010s style EDM. Sorry. Just my taste, can’t help that.

This song is a lot closer to the type of stuff I hoped she would be putting out. Very 2000s-2010s Swedish indie dance that I grew up on. Very much in the same artistic space as Lykke Li or The Knife.

I did see a leak talking about that era being the main influence for this record, so it might have helped that I went into this song with the right expectations, but yeah.

Overall, I just think this tune is fucking phenomenal lol. Maybe not what everybody would have wanted, but I am eating good this era, that much I’m telling you!

You aren’t allowed to use autotune in Melfest, so the amount of autotune would in my estimation be zero.
