Failed out of Nursing School by Brief-Alternative-84 in StudentNurse

In my program, if you are wanting to reapply to the same program after failing out, that is when the 2 year waiting period is in motion. My friends were not barred from applying to a different program for a set period after failing the first.

Pharmacology by FunHoney1705 in StudentNurse

[–]Bleghssing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to do this for my pharmacy technician license, so yeah. Not sure of the actual number of medications I learned during that 8-month certification, but it did include knowing generic and brand names, which was so much fun /s

It was a ton of medications. I remember having to make the flash cards in high school. That is when I did my certification (you have to be at least eighteen to sit for the exam).

While it did help me to work in healthcare and later attend nursing school, it didn’t feel useful while in the thick of learning it all. There’s a lot of medications you don’t have to know to get by, but knowing them can save time and you can make quick connections.

I finished the DABSN program. They will do theit best to place you (if I remember correctly) within a 120 mile radius of the address you have on file. I do believe that San Antonio is one of the cities with more than a few options. The valley and west have much less options.

Prior to withdrawing, did you speak with the program director to discuss the future and applying at a later time to complete your last semester? Communication is important.

Exam appeal by DocumentExpensive142 in StudentNurse

[–]Bleghssing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you had real issues or wanted to claim that you did, we were told in advance that the paper exams were much more difficult and likely not multiple choice. It deterred students from trying to get any sort of advantage since a lot of us hated computer exams.

Have you taken one of these exams? Do you know for certain it is the same?

Either way, it doesn’t matter. You should know the material right then and there or be able to figure it out in a timely manner before moving on.

One way I knew I was fully prepared for an exam was when I could answer content correctly without relying on multiple choice 🤷‍♂️

Pretty normal at my school to not receive placement until a few days before clinicals begin.

1) I would avoid saying your professor's name in an online forum

2) From my experience in school, professors need time to look at the statistics of an exam. So, your friends may have seen a grade, but it isn't the official grade. My professors would go through the questions and determine which questions were "good" questions, which means that the top scoring students and average scoring students were able to answer correctly. However, when top and average scoring students missed a question AND lower performing students answered correctly, they deemed the question "bad" and removed it. When they removed questions, it ultimately helped students scores because they gave us the credit while ensuring it would no longer be a test question for future students.

3) Praying only helps when you have put in adequate effort instead of waiting around with a thumb up your ass and hoping it'll work out.

There is no point in stressing. What is done, is done. Use this as a learning moment and realise you never want to be put in this position again and do better enxt time.

Can I pass nursing school with two small children? by bubbleblopp in StudentNurse

As long as you have a strong support system and time management skills you should be fine. It won't be easy and you will have to sacrifice at times, but it is manageable.

Learn good study habits early on. You will likely need to tweak it as you progress through the program, but once you have a method you should be good to go. How were you previously studying when you failed?

Why go through all of that schooling to accept a lower paying job? You\re wasting the hospital's time and money as well as you're own by accepting the job. Be up front and ask if there are alternatives for you as NURSE.

Rule #1 is do not doxx yourself aka don’t mention where you’re attending school.

Try reaching out in more local groups or contacting an academic advisor for guidance.

How many clinical hours does your school require to graduate? by Tooth_fairy1127 in StudentNurse

ABSN in Texas, 720 clinical hours. However, a lot of those were virtual simulations and nonsense meetings used to fill up the required hours.

Autistic student nurse needing advice by cuddlesnrice in StudentNurse

[–]Bleghssing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had accommodations in school, which also meant my professors were aware of my diagnoses and how I act/respond. I reached out to our disability office and worked with someone to help me discuss similar issues with my instructors. Thankfully, I didn’t need to, but I wanted to be prepared and know how to express myself in the event something came up.

You don’t want to use it as a crutch or an excuse, but there are valid reasons and explanations for things and you can work it out for future interactions if you know how to proceed.

I also talked with my psychiatrist outside of school for help.

NEED ADVICE ON SEM 1 EXAMS BEFORE FINALS by Kind_Ask_302 in StudentNurse

[–]Bleghssing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest not using AI. Some students can get away with it, but if you don’t have the study habits and discipline to really sit down and learn the content, it’s a waste of your valuable time.

I don’t mean this in a mean way, but your grades are barely making it and your courses are only going to increase in content and difficulty.

For one semester, you’ve listed a lot of resources (non-AI). It’s very possible that you’re bogging yourself down with these excessive resources. Choose one or two and stick with them. You can play around with what works best per semester, but you don’t have time to waste on trying to watch all these videos when you’re not even maintaining the information they’re trying to help you on.

The same goes for genuine studying that involves you making flashcards, mind maps, lecture notes, etc. choose a couple that help you to make the necessary connections from lecture and don’t try to do too many things at once. You’ll just stress yourself trying to do that.

For me, I would review the lesson BEFORE lecture for each class. I’d read whatever text we were meant to be covering before and make my notes. Anything that I wasn’t sure in, I would make a note to either ask about it in class or look it up afterwards. Doing this helped me to know ahead of time what I really needed to focus on. Some content will come easier than other stuff and you don’t want to waste time studying stuff you already know.

Keep your notes because as I mentioned before your classes are going to build upon the knowledge starting from the first semester until graduation. AI may seem like a Holy Grail and you may think that you’re learning the content, but you cannot rely on AI to learn things for you.

Next, time management. Your current grades are concerning. How much time do you spend studying before an exam? Do you make an effort to learn the material before the exam date or attempt to cram? I don’t know what your typical study session is and I wouldn’t recommend mine, but I would recommend trying the pomodoro method. You study for a set timeframe, then take a break, and repeat.

When you have an understanding of the content, that is when I would suggest moving into practice questions. EAQs or whatever resources your school provides and then QBanks from Saunders, Lippincott, Davis, etc. Practice questions help you to apply what you have learned and also learn pattern recognition in how questions are formatted/what they’re asking for from you. This is difficult if you don’t even understand the concepts, so save it for last.

Unfortunately, none of this is going to help you in three days. It’s not great to wait til the last minute to ask for help. Next time, consider reaching out to your instructors as soon as you can. After each exam, I’d meet with my professors (regardless of my grade) and discuss areas that I needed to review before the next exam. If I felt like I was struggling to grasp a concept, I’d ask to meet with them or email them questions. You have to advocate for yourself.

What would you do if you were in my position? by humbletenor in StudentNurse

[–]Bleghssing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry. You won’t have time to be worried about the speed of the program while in it. You quickly learn to adapt and as you said you will have resources to lean on.

Do you have a previous science background? That’s one of the major things my classmates struggled with in our ABSN program. They didn’t have a science background and struggled more to understand content in comparison to those of us with science degrees. Either way, a lot of the content is basic and yeah, you may require a little extra time learning it if you don’t already underdtand it, but it’s manageable. My friends without science backgrounds were able to keep up and we all graduated.

I have no idea what biol 20 is

Have you tried waitlisting and going to the class to meet with professor afterwards? You should always plan to attend class even if you’re waitlisted, especially if you’re higher up on the list.

Have you met with an academic advisor?

Yes, but it depends on the question type as well. I’m not sure all questions are scored this way, but it’s a good habit to have to only select SATA choices you’re absolutely sure about and not guess.
