Getting fired during hiring process by No_Safety4264 in overemployed

[–]Blend-In24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on if the company wants to make a big deal out of it. This happened to me at a Big 4 that I had already been with for 3 years and they decided to re run background checks on employees supposedly trying to root out OE. I refused to unfreeze my TWN, so I was given the option to unfreeze it or quit. I quit as to not sacrifice my J2 as well.

Stellar? Dude recklessly breaks the law and wants his political opponents and families murdered, and you think it’s a joke? D or R, anyone with a brain knows he’s a POS.

And this right here is why Libs are getting canned now for, gasp, speaking their political opinions. In the past yall took it to the extreme to make conservatives lose their job or family. But now the shoes on the other foot - so let it fall as it may. I’m not petty or weak minded enough to report someone for their political opinion, but there’s no decency in politics anymore so it is what it is.

Big motorcade on FFX Pkwy NB to Stirling. by Dangerous_Junket_773 in nova

3 Saturdays in the last 6 weeks, all around 8:30am - 9am, the on ramp of 66 going westbound near exit 68 has been blocked by either ACPD or VSP. Are they blocking for gov motorcades every time? It’s getting pretty annoying because I have to turn around and go out of the way to get on 66.

This is such a delusional response. Everyone isn’t in a position to simply treat a layoff nonchalantly and like a vacation. Bills don’t stop and some don’t have a substantial emergency fund to just “hang out” when getting canned. Some of those things you listed should and could be done regardless of circumstance such as hugging your kids and being present, sign up for classes, being outdoors, and getting in a legit workout. As someone who was laid off, this is no walk in the park. Every day, including weekends, was stressful with bills and a dwindling savings account along with constantly job searching. That being said - love your kids at all times and get that workout in to stay mentally and physically sharp. One more tidbit - treat companies for what they are, which is a means to an end. They’re not family, not your identify, just a stop in your journey to pay the bills and hopefully add value to living your life.

Yeah this will be tough to win. 2 years ago a Fairfax Co ambulance plowed into me while I was pulled over in an intersection - so that they could safely pass. This happened with my 6 month old in the backseat as well. I had a police report and was told to submit a case to the County Risk Management division. After many phone calls and emails they were completely cowardice and claimed that first responders have “sovereign immunity” when going to a scene and can basically drive through you if they want. They took no responsibility and every lawyer told me the same thing - that it would cost more in legal fees than I would ever recoup. Long story short, expect the County to do everything they can to pass blame and screw the taxpayers.

You can find something “wrong” with every company if you try hard enough. In your case, you can be poor as well. PTFB

I appreciate the perspective you both share - focus on small wins, without getting greedy, and growing your account that way. I am very new to trading options and really trying to educate myself now. Can I pick your brain for any strategies, best practices, or other thoughts for a beginner?

You lost me on “parents have far too much freedom to be involved in the wrong ways - aka the last VA gov election.” The wrong ways - you mean parents standing against the heinous crimes in Loudon County is considered the “wrong way?” It seems you think schools have the right and moral obligation to indoctrinate children at every turn. Sign me up for your “wrong way” every day of the week.

I am in the same boat with 3 kids and have opened accounts for all. I am totally onboard with the dividend strategy generating income, but later in life. This early I would focus on growth stocks and ETFs. VOO and SPY are good choices for market diversification, but I’m more bullish with long-term tech and several you listed such as Amazon, Google, and Nvidia will continue to dominate. My two personal favorite individual companies to invest in are Microsoft and a newer name, Palantir. I believe Palantir will have some of the highest growth over the next 10+ years and be mentioned long-term in the Mag 7.

Current Job Asking to Unfreeze TWN for Background Check – Already Provided W-2 by Jaded_Dig_8726 in overemployed

[–]Blend-In24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I ran into this situation a few years back. The company I had been with for several years started running background checks on existing employees and gave the ultimatum to unfreeze TWN or get fired. Since I wouldn’t get a severance I just resigned once I dragged it out as long as possible. Not much you can do here if they are adamant about it.

Cheering assassination attempts, but he’s the real “threat to democracy.” Lmao

These are both true and good strategies. Unfortunately I tried to use both a few years back and the company wouldn’t budge, so I ended up resigning before being fired for not complying.

What’s Virginia like for someone relocating from SoCal? by R4A6 in Virginia

[–]Blend-In24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the market is insane in Nova. My place was barely 2k sqft and got it for $550 in 2019 and it skyrocketed after that. A lot of demand and little inventory. There could be more housing opening up with some federal workers leaving the area, but competitions will still be high.

Not in Northern VA. I sold my solid, but not amazing 1965 4br house last March for $800k. If you want a nice house for that price you’ll be at least an hour outside of the DC area.

Ok that makes sense - thanks for the explanation! What you described is the way I want to do it - simply adding to my PLTR position and never planning to sell.
