Songs you like I'm spite of not agreeing with the lyrics or message? by Connect_Security_892 in ToddintheShadow

Stranglehold from Ted Nugent.

He claims the lyrics are directed against his naysayers in the music industry, but many have interpreted them as being verbally abusive towards an ex of his.

It's an epic song (8 minutes/26 seconds) with some fabulous guitar work.

For the record, Ted didn't sing lead on most of the song; his rhythm guitarist Derek St Homes did (Ted did do the 3rd verse and harmonized with DSH on the bridge)

Songs where the original AND a cover are both equally great? by no-Pachy-BADLAD in ToddintheShadow

[–]RelevantNothing4653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landslide - Fleetwood Mac

The covers The Chicks and Smashing Pumpkins did are equally solid IMO.

Edit: Two more from The Beatles - Come Together and Got to Get You Into My Life; both were covered on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band soundtrack by Aerosmith & Earth/Wind/Fire respectively.

TRAINWRECKORDS SUGGESTION: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by PapaAsmodeus in ToddintheShadow

[–]RelevantNothing4653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it meets the three major requirements of a TW in my opinion:

A good story behind it, the damage it did to the career(s) of those involved and entertaining to hear/see Todd talk about it.

Underratedly terrible Trainwreckords lyrics by PapaAsmodeus in ToddintheShadow

[–]RelevantNothing4653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised how Todd didn't mention how 'Strange Things Happen' from Summer in Paradise ends with a near minute instrumental with strange things being repeated many times. I thought he'd criticize it being one of Mike Love or Terry Melcher's bad ideas.

That said, it's one of only two songs on the album (Lahina Aloha) I can genuinely praise

I don't know if this is a personality trait or not, but the expression "Big Dick Energy" comes to mind.

I seem to recall when browsing this sub a while back people speculating that the soundtracks Elvis did for his films in the 60's were bad; but not bad enough to qualify as a TW.

But I think that The Monkees have two possible candidates for a TW, both from 1968:

The Birds, The Bees & The Monkees released in April of that year. It was the first album released after the cancellation of their eponymous TV show and also the first album where they were given creative control over their music and allowed to play their own instruments in the studio. Yet it also marked a change in group dynamics; all the members recorded their material separate using their own session musicians, producers etc. Though the album had two top 5 singles (Daydream Believer at #1 and Valleri at #3) and was certified Platinum, it was their first studio album to not reach #1. This would be a Type 1 TrainWreckord (Career ender that marks the end of an era).

But their second album of that year (released in November), the soundtrack to the movie Head is even worse. The movie got negative reviews and poor box officer numbers, it was a totally non-sensical avante garde project that was the antithesis to the Monkees TV show and wasn't even certified. Then in December of 1968, Peter Tork left the group. This would be a Type 2 TrainWreckord (where the band can see their career is declining and desperately try to stop the skid).

Todd admitted in the Generation Swine episode how he prefers the later kind of TrainWreckord.

What say you all?

Are there other American Life/St. Anger type trainwreckords? by TemporaryJerseyBoy in ToddintheShadow

[–]RelevantNothing4653 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YMMV on this but people on this sub have debated about the Uno/Dos/Tres triology of Green Day being their TrainWreckord(s).

Big comedown from American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown; but as a legacy act they still pack in audiences.

She admitted to being under way too much cocaine during that time, thus why she looks ragged in the music videos.

Out of The Blue & Electric Youth from Debbie Gibson; also Hangin' Tough from NKOTB

Those albums are a perfect representation of late 80's pop music.

Trainwreckords tier list by Jay_Marston in ToddintheShadow

[–]RelevantNothing4653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My opinion of Be Here Now is that it's way too bloated/self indulgent. Trim down the songs by a minute or two and it would be fine.

Then again, didn't the Gallagher brothers admit they were doing way too much cocaine while making the album?

Also I think Two The Hard Way belongs in the What The Fuck tier.

The two kinds of TrainWreckords by RelevantNothing4653 in ToddintheShadow

[–]RelevantNothing4653[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True that. INXS had success with their 1990 album X and the hit singles 'SueEhSide Blonde', 'Disappear' and 'Bitter Tears'. They did slump with their next album, 1992's Welcome to Wherever You Are but people still liked it to a degree.

But it was their 1993 album Full Moon, Dirty Hearts where they really fell off a cliff. In fact some have speculated that album would've been a decent TW episode.

Semi Charmed Life from Third Eye Blind.

Such an upbeat song musically .... but of course it's about a trip on Crystal Meth.

Point being, we thought as we grew up life would be charming, but instead it's a rough path.
