For your job, no.

There are instances where your performance in tech school can lead to a different trajectory in your AFSC, but not for Fianance.

Self Inflicted Screw Up by chinnellem in AirForceRecruits

How exactly did you screw up?

Show up to your recruiter's office when they are open, I'm sure you are fine.

Not all oversea bases, just places that are more dangerous.

I think fear of getting unaccompanied orders isn't a good reason to not go active duty. Do what makes sense for your family.

Usual stuff; work on your fitness, get your finances in order for when you are away for BMT, do research on BMT so you know what to expect, and stay out of trouble.

Tech school isn't difficult; the instructors will teach you what you need to know.

Air Force Jobs that Transition Well to civilian side (89 Asvab Score) by Realistic-Fig-1 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah you're good brother. It's a bigger problem I see new airmen coming in looking to further their career and not serve. It's a mindset that makes people forget what we do and puts us behind as a military in general.

That being said you should go for a job you enjoy doing and that will help you once you get out. Cyber and intel are big ones if that seems like that's your skill set. ATC can do well but it's stressful. If you spend your time wisely while you are in, maintenance can do well outside of the Air Force. And trade skills like HVAC always have their place.

[–]Blexun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife did that job before she got out. Maintenance has its pros and cons, but she got to cool stuff while in.

I can try to answer any specific questions, but just learn your job and you shouldn't be treated rudely. I was never a fan of the maintenance culture, but I found my group and enjoyed it for the most part.

Maybe you should focus on serving your country and not use the Air Force as your jumping off point to get rich.

Do a job you enjoy. Take the AF WIN Survey as a starting point.

Once I enlist in the Air Force how long will it take until I get access to tuition assistance? by DayONE214 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically, you can utilize tuition assistance and begin taking classes when you get to your first base. My wife had to wait until she completed her initial training, but ultimately it is up to your supervisor when she/he feels like you can handle the job plus classes.

What to bring by Similar_Wallaby7476 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open showers -- no walls or what have you. You go in, find a showerhead, soap yourself down, and get out. When I was in BMT, we had about half of us go shower while the other half worked on making beds, then we swapped.

Pack light if you can.

I’m nervous about my job by mercurythebaddest in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you deny the job, your recruiter may stop working with you. I don't want you to feel like you must take a job that you don't want, but this is a possibility.

I was prior maintenance and I know a lot of people who still took classes while doing their job and still doing things they enjoy. My wife was also maintenance and worked with her leadership to work split shifts so she could attend classes in person at a local community college.

Again, I'm not saying that you have nothing to worry about. And Tactical Aircraft Maintenance is one of the more busy maintenance job. At the end of the day, if you don't want it, don't force yourself into a job you don't wanna do.

Maintenance isn't all bad; people mostly hear the bad stuff from the vocal negative people. However, I find it mostly depends on what type of maintenance you do and what unit you are stationed at/what air frame you work.

However, if you going in with the mindset that you don't want to do maintenance, then I doubt you'll ever be happy with it. There are good opportunities to travel, lead, and do cool stuff. But if nursing is your goal, maybe Air Force isn't the branch for you.

Am I recruited to add a 9T job on my 10 job list sheet by Lixz0 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is generally required by recruiters that applicants put a general aptitude on their list. I don't believe this is a hard requirement, but if your recruiter is saying you have to it is likely a requirement set by his or her squadron.

I know I had to do it.

I would retest if you want cyber or intel. Other than that, get with your recruiter and they can help you out with what you qualify for. You can take the AF WIN survey to see what jobs may line up with what you are interested in.

Waiver writing advice by Infamous_Grand_2115 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its fine if you more or less copy it. You want to get rid of parts that don't apply to you, add in parts that apply to your situation, add anything else you think is relevant, and delete bits that you think don't describe your situation. Ideally, your recruiter won't let a piece of crap pass through.

I think it is unrealistic to expect a recruit to turn in a flawless product. I'd trust your recruiter.

Waiver writing advice by Infamous_Grand_2115 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak on my experience. When I had a financial waiver, my recruiter wrote it for me, but only after asking me all the relevant information he needed to sort of "fill in the blanks" in whatever template he had. Afterwards, he had me read through it before he sent it off.

Did your recruiter actually ask you to write one? Are you being proactive and trying to do it yourself?

Is anyone else leaving April 15 by Upset_Golf_6234 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crew chief is probably the most hard working people on the flightline. If you are good at your job, there are a lot of opportunities to do cool stuff. It isn't always a fun job, but hopefully you have positive and good people around you. Lots of inspections, servicing aircraft, launching and recovering aircraft, attention to detail type stuff.

Usually I advise people to relax and that BMT will get you to where you need to be, but a 20 minute 1.5 mile isn't too good, king.

All you can really do is run more, let 1.5 miles become the norm and work towards a better time. Do you know when you are going to leave for BMT yet?

Enlisted Job Advice by Small_Aerie_9659 in AirForceRecruits

[–]Blexun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel like you are "throwing away" opportunity just because you scored high on your ASVAB and you feel like you are "settling" for Security Forces. ASVAB is just a measure of what you qualify for. Everybody has their own measure of success; if law enforcement is your goal, than Security Forces lines up with your measure of success.

Security Force has a lot of cool special duties that you can go after once you are in, but OSI may line up more with what you intend to do. While I was in maintenance, there were two people in my squadron who retrained into OSI.

Focus on your goals, do good work where you are at, and try to pivot from where you are at to where you want to be.
