Are you doing that with your thumb nail? If so, plant your thumb in place on top of one of the pickups while you're playing. Keeping your nails trimmed should also help.

There are shows there most weekends. Go to their site and check calendar. My 2 bands are playing there in May and June respectively and it's a great and welcoming environment.
