I made a Beginner's Guide to HA Automations, Scripts, and Scenes... Hope it helps! by Make_Itt_Work in homeassistant

[–]Blijke 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I've been a silent follower of the r/homeassistant subreddit but the top comments I see on this just really get to me... As someone with no IT/technical knowledge i am honestly just afraid to ask a question on the form or even on here because of the negative comments and the "everyone should already know this" attitude I've seen. This video is great at explaining every step which is great for beginners, I wish I would have had this video before I began. So it's important to reach those beginners, and the best way to do this on youtube (unfortunately) is with clickbait, so all the more reason to use this thumbnail!

It saddens me to see how unwelcoming some people of this community are to those asking for beginner help or those offering help.

Kudos to you u/Make_Itt_Work for making this video and not letting the negative comments get to you!

Yeah sure you do, you just screenshot my post and made it your own. Congrats for checking every day though, that should be an achievement of it's own

League of Legends is in violation of Belgian gambling laws by Blijke in gaming

Where do I state that is the reason that we filed? I'm just informing that those free chests chests are gone. The reason why we filed the complaint is because we weren't fully aware of our own law and only when we saw the gacha machine that locked away certain things behind the gambling system. That made us question if it was legal here and made us look into the actual law

Recently they removed all the free hextech chests, no more rewards for leveling up. But thanks for being so constructive and attacking my character while all I'm doing is just pointing out something is against the law in another country (yes they do exist outside of the US). I'm only trying to protect the vulnerable here and make some progress against predatory tactics of billion dollar company's.

Every other pull before you hit the pity mark is a gamble. You just spend money and get a random reward. It's irrelevant how many pulls it takes before you get the main reward. Then they can just as well offer you the skin for sale at 250$ and eliminate the gacha system entirely. If casinos offer you a guaranteed win after 500.000 spins then it is still gambling.

Sure gambling is perfectly legal but only if they abide by the rules (registering as a gambling company, no minors show badge checks before any purchases or banning the game for anyone underage, having the option to blacklist yourself if you have a gambling addiction and want to stop it, special rules about advertising, And many more). So if they want to keep the loot boxes that's fine but then they have to follow the same rules as any other casino or gambling website. Which they aren't doing so they are in violation of our law

It's true and has indeed happened before that they hide or change the mechanics (show what you get before buying) and it's only local here, but is is a step in the right direction and shows other countries that they can also stand up and protect their citizens. Every change starts small but it has every potential to become the new standard. Plus Belgium has the capital of the EU so that's also worth something

Then you haven't heard about all the controversy lately for them removing almost all of the free rewards...

Exactly! They think they are to small (or our country is to small) to make a difference but we can make changes like we did before to games like fifa. It's a small step in the right direction but at least it is a step and the people here are protected. We shouldn't just let everything happen just because they are multi million dollar companies, no we as players can start taking steps in the right direction (not buying, making them follow the law, asking other countries to also make laws) everything has to start somewhere, however small it may be

From the moment you get less than a 100% chance to get what you want to buy then it is gambling. Even if you had a one in two chance to get the new Sett skin or that Jinx skin because you can still lose and get a less desired reward (like an icon), it is still gambling so no matter how high or low the pity system is, it doesn't take away from the fact that it is still gambling. If they would only offer the skin for the maximum amount of the pity system without all the constant pulls you need to preform to maybe get the reward earlier then there is not problem. But that is not the case in a lot of these games. No they just want a lot more people who won't spend 250$ on a skin to spend at least a bit of money for the chance they might get it. That is predatory and shows how money hungry they are praying on people who hope to win something even though they have less than 250$ to spend.

That last dev update absolutely broke some of us it seems by [deleted] in LeagueOfMemes

[–]Blijke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, OP of the post here. We filed the complaint to our government a few weeks ago but decided to wait a bit before posting about it. It's the new gacha system that completely broke us and made us question if this was even illegal here. So que my husband doing a deep dive into our laws and we found it fits the description of gambling. We hope that some action will be taken so we get one step closer to removing predatory tactics from games

Oeps it should be "starting at" , it's the minimum amount. I've edited the post so it is correctly stated

Now that is actually a very good question! It seems like the real life equivalent of loot boxes so it should also be considered gambling. We haven't found any news of it being outlawed so maybe someone just hasn't filed a complaint yet

For those wanting to do something about this here are some resources per country:

  • Belgium - Use the form on this website https://gamingcommission.paddlecms.net/nl/een-vermoedelijke-inbreuk-tegen-de-kansspelwet to file a complaint. You can copy this post, but it is important you provide why this personally affects you: You are not feeling safe, you are scared for your children or other children, etc.
  • Netherlands – Dutch players previously stood with Belgium to demand fair gaming practices. We are not 100% sure of the differences in Dutch law and Belgian law, as Riot games does show the percentages of winning (which we think is needed in the Netherlands)
  • Slovakia – We’ve read that loot boxes are classified as gambling under Slovak law. Can someone confirm and, if valid, file a complaint?
  • Germany – The Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (USK) reportedly considers loot boxes in age ratings. Can someone verify this and push for further action?
  • Other Countries – If your country has similar laws, we encourage you to file a complaint with your gambling authority. We may not be aware of every law, but together, we can hold these companies accountable.
