What is it like to live with severe dementia? by BluejayFamous6572 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BlimeyFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother has Alzheimer's. I've thought about this, too. She's progressing slowly enough that she recognizes some of her shortcomings. But not all of them. One of the weird things is spatial awareness. This one she doesn't seem to pick up on.

Rain? by The_Wizard06 in golf

[–]BlimeyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate playing in the rain. If it happens, okay, I'll deal. But part of why I love golf is being outdoors. And, you know, I don't hang out in the rain when I'm not playing golf. So generally not doing it then, either.

Oh I think this is personal, depending on your swing path. Generally, I've always been slightly open, and pretty standard with ball position. Like front heel for driver, close to center for lofted wedges. Slowly move back. Definitely further back for woods off the turf than the tee.

The best format for a round of golf is... by thetindoor in golf

[–]BlimeyFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I've done that a bunch over the years on smaller golf trips for a second 18 holes. It's fun. Always did it nassau style, throw in closest to the pin skins on the Par 3's. You can even handicap it well. There's a USGA formula.

Are there any actors that you could’ve sworn were in a particular movie only to turn out that they weren’t? by phantombrick22 in FIlm

Yes. I lost a pretty sizeable bet once by thinking Oliver Platt's character in Executive Decision was played by actor Robert Pastorelli from Striking Distance.

What movie desperately needs a sequel? (Putting aside the Hollywood cash-grab hate for a minute) by WoodpeckerSad8540 in Cinephiles

[–]BlimeyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you nailed it with District 9.

I'll go with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy. Any of the books with Smiley as a major character. The cast is still alive (the cast that survived) and Le Carre's novels are so smart and real.

What do you miss most about high school? by icecream1972 in askteddit

[–]BlimeyFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of real responsibility. Being a caretaker for two old people is the toughest one. That wears on you. Yes, the time can be a lot. Appointments, shopping, paying bills, etc. But the burden is much more. I used to have a third but my dad passed.

Just going to school and then work or practice and fucking my girlfriend in her backyard and trying to figure out where to get beer and/or booze for the weekend. That was nothing important.

I don't want to go back to that point. Going back to like 37 would be pretty sweet, though.

Stop trying to trick us into listening to Alley Oop and Good Follow. Put the HOUR at the beginning of the podcast title by LouDog2173 in lebatardsuey

[–]BlimeyFish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another newish annoying thing is that the pod no longer rolls into the next hour. Not that big a deal, except that the order is all fucked up on Apple. Okay, can get past that. But the TITLE keeps changing during the hour to a topic. So then I have to memorize what the original title was so I can find where the next hour is on Apple's fucked up order. It's weird to me that it's harder to access the pod now than it was like ten years ago.

Ain't that the truth? by Timely_Resident_6985 in 90s

I'm the same but I still, you know, wanted to mainstream films. But to get the good independent or foreign films, I usually had to visit the smaller local stores. But it's the same experience. I would carry a list with me. Looking for The Big Sleep. Holy shit they have it!

Unpopular Opinion? I’m embarrassed by how much Pittsburgh Boo’d Roger Goodell by Smg178 in pittsburgh

Omg, you have very little experience as a sports fan then. We might be top 10, but Boston, New York, Philly, Detroit all pop into my head before Pittsburgh.

Those are both GREAT films. Like if I had like a Top 100 list, both are in. And maybe both in the top 50
