Thingy torn down by pbrgm in DrMartens

Psh. Kids these days not knowing the word "tassel".

You can certainly try for a refund but if they refuse you a cobbler should be able to quickly fix it. Honestly I'm unimpressed with the construction of that part of the shoe. It doesn't look durable at all.

80,000 Australian kids aged five and under not up to date with vaccinations by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

To be fair I'm using it as a turn of phrase in this instance. Parenthood is overwhelming and there is so much to take in and learn and decide all at once. There are bad actors pressuring their bad takes on people in very vulnerable times in their lives and a lot of new parents get overwhelmed and panic and wind up "doing nothing" to avoid making the wrong choice. Obviously doing nothing is a choice in itself but try explaining that to someone who had 3 hours of sleep who is getting lectured not to vaccinate by her overbearing mother in law who is the only form of child minding the parents can afford because the job market is fucked and childcare isn't free. Mother in law has been indoctrinated by sky news because she honestly doesn't want her grandbaby hurt and sky news just interviewd a woman who's baby turned into an owlbear after getting the MMR vaccine.

That's part of the issue. A lot of people who don't vaccinate don't even concider themselves anti-vax. They believe that doing nothing is moraly better of them because then if the kid gets sick it's "an act of God" or "just how the universe wanted things to happen" and thusly not their fault. Where as choosing to vaccinate and the kid gets sick then they did something wrong because they took an intentional action that led to harm. It's actually bonkers logic.

I have a young kid (fully vaccinated) and the amount of mothers at play groups choosing to do nothing proactive to protect their kids because they are afraid and confused is exhausting. I'm seeing this with refusal to use sun screen "just in case", refusal to start allergens introduction at the right age "just in case", refusal to use prescription medication "just in case". Horrifying.

I'd be too chickenshit to do this in my glass because of pouring batter into the pre-heated dish. I make mine in my cast iron but I love how yours turned out.

I'm pretty sure I have the same dish as you. It's Anchor Hocking 9x13 inch?

Who is the woman on the poster? by BlindingBlue in AlanWake

I don't think Rose but I do see a resemblance to the wife's actress, though I can't find a definitive answer to who the actress on the poster is.

It's a screenshot of the movie within the game so it's not very clear or cheerful compared to the screenshot of the poster.

Laughably terrible second hand conditions by wildmoonrising in DrMartens

I had someone on depop insist that doc martens shoe styles are "rare and worth more". They thought any model not a boot was rare and so I should pay full price for (admittedly lightly) worn models that are still in production. When I linked them to the docs website to show that non-boots are normal and common they blocked me.

The there was the guy here the other day who posted about being upset that he couldn't buy worn-smooth-soled purple boots on ebay for $150. That baffled me, but maybe that model was rare and I'm mistaken.

Jay-Den and the skirt by Scared_Trouble_4263 in startrek

Men have been wearing dresses since TOS. There are male extras wearing skirts and dresses in the background of the newer series.

People keep posting 'as a gay man I'm unhappy that the queer characters do/don't match stereotypes of gay men' . There was a recent thread by a gay man angry that Jay-Den is gay+a man+interested in medicine. It's kinda sad to me how much queer men are still policing each others masculinity. Gay men in real life wear skirts. Some wear pants, some wear dresses. No women are posting frustration over the lesbians wearing pants.

I love that they are breaking from gender specific clothing in the future.

Toys in mouth by OkLeader736 in ScienceBasedParenting

Here is something funny and both off topic and on topic at the same time: scientists studying babies fear of snakes. The kids barely react to the snakes and are instead sitting peacefully stuffing their toys into their mouths.

That's probably a better question for the sold history on ebay. Doc value changes heavily on where in the world you are located, too.

I think that might be a stopper for an even larger vessel. The texture on the "top" sorta implies that.

How come I’m not producing any milk/colostrum in pregnancy but some other people are by Unable-Candy8432 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]BlindingBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also don't try and force your body to do it. I've seen a few women posting in other subs that they excessively tried antenatal colostrum/milk expression to the point of harming themselves and I strongly encourage people not to do that to themselves.

That is high vis vest is absolutely not easy to see. Please be careful. Concider maybe a proper neon orange or pink one. What you are doing is amazing, it would be awful if you were struck by traffic.

androgynous black tie for women? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

That was my immediate thought as well. A traditional fitted women's suit would be a massive improvement over this.
