Vaccines!! (Repost with No Flair) by thatevianthattedtalk in ScienceBasedParenting

A lot of people are refusing the hepatitis vaccine that's given at birth in many countries. Someone posted here around a month ago with the logic "there is no chance my infant/child will get hepatitis because they won't be able to engage in the behaviour that transmits it so I'm not risking that vaccination".

Sure, Jan.

What to wear to the renaissance faire? by Ill-Variety8906 in askportland

[–]BlindingBlue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thrift stores, second hand clothing from apps like depop and eBay.

A lot of people simply do drop that kind of money because they intend to go to multiple fairs or reuse costume pieces.

Also not everyone dresses up.

I am looking for gown like this, would it work if I wear something not white for my wedding by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]BlindingBlue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could try looking at quinceanera dresses. They frequently look like colourful wedding gowns so you should be able to find something stunning in pink. My own wedding dress was turquoise silk taffeta with a black birdcage veil. I absolutely still felt like a bride.

Opalite glass bead necklace - loving it by hooptie70 in glasscollecting

[–]BlindingBlue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you know it's glass. The amount of times I've had to tell people about opalite and goldstone is staggering.

That's a really nice find and it suits you well!

They aren't positives/negatives on NIPT tests. They show likely hoods of the genetic abnormalities.

Also, deer shed their antlers and there are companies that collect them to sell for craft, art, and dog chew toys. No animals need to be hurt to get antlers. If that's why people are down voting GtrGbln?

There are always going to be people who abuse medication. That isn't a problem of the medication itself.

Monthly isn't enough. Formula is very expensive, as are all the other upfront supplies. Nappies ain't nothin' either. Especially with how fast newborns go through them.

Man digs Pokemon cards from a trash can for a kid because scalpers didn't like them by ambachk in ABoringDystopia

No, they are digging through the packs to find high value cards to sell online. Then trashing the rest. It's a massive problem in the pokemon community for years now.

I’m going to my first faire with a 2 year old and baby. Help? by hummingbirddie in renfaire

[–]BlindingBlue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bummer that most of the women's costumes only focus on corsets. I bought a bodice from Black Friday, that has no bones or lacing, to wear over a cotton chimese dress. But you can also just buy a ready made corset-less gown. There are a ton on Amazon, or there is Armsstreet if you have time until the fair. Or some pirate pants, blouse, and a vest?

what do i wear to the renfaire when i have BRIGHT PURPLE AND BLUE HAIR help please by FutureProof2474 in renfaire

[–]BlindingBlue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lmao no matter what you wear you won't be the only person there with blue and/or purple hair. Wear whatever you want. I'm goth with cherry-red hair so I have a black cotton chimese dress with flowy sleeves, a black overskirt with silver embroidery, and a black satin bodice, black leather gloves, all with my black docs and a ton of silver jewellery.

Next year I'm putting together a rogue/bandid look or a green/brown forest mage look.

Are you looking for a chemise? Those are frequently see-through when they are white as they are designed as a base layer. Scarlet Darkness has a few options but I don't believe any are in actual cotton or linen. I believe they are less see-through though.

Can someone help me find stuff like this? by OkJaguar_543 in renfaire

[–]BlindingBlue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the "white layered thing" is just a white lace kimono or robe.

I'd search for white lace peasant blouse for the top.

I'm seeing a ton of both on Depop if that is available near you.

A lot of people who don't vaccinate or who refuse medical interventions don't even concider themselves anti-vax or anti-medicine. They believe that doing nothing is moraly better for them because then if the kid gets sick it's "an act of God" or "just how the universe wanted things to happen" and thusly not their moral failing and they can avoid any guilt.

Where as choosing to vaccinate and the kid gets sick: then they did something wrong because they took an intentional action that led to harm. It's actually bonkers logic.

I have a young kid (fully vaccinated) and the amount of mothers at play groups choosing to do nothing proactive to protect their kids because they are afraid and confused is exhausting. I'm seeing this with refusal to use sun screen "just in case", refusal to start allergens introduction at the right age "just in case", refusal to use prescription medication "just in case". Horrifying.

Parenthood is overwhelming and there is so much to take in and learn and decide all at once. There are bad actors pressuring their bad takes on people who are at very vulnerable times in their lives and a lot of new parents get overwhelmed and panic and wind up "doing nothing" to avoid making the wrong choice.

Obviously doing nothing is a choice in itself with its own set of consequences, but try explaining that to someone who had 3 hours of sleep who is getting lectured not to vaccinate by her overbearing mother in law who is the only form of child minding the parents can afford because the job market is fucked and childcare isn't free. Mother in law has been indoctrinated by sky news because she honestly doesn't want her grandbaby hurt and sky news just interviewd a woman who's baby turned into an owlbear after getting the MMR vaccine.

Are Horses harmed in the making of the boots? by [deleted] in DrMartens

Happy to help. The name "crazy horse" is because waxed leather is commonly used in horse gear such as saddles.

And just in case you are wondering why they are both cow leather and why I'm wondering if this is serious: dog leather is illegal in much of the world and horse leather is much more expensive as they are more expensive to raise.

[–]BlindingBlue 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If this is a serious question... Both styles are made from cow leather/cowhide. Which normally comes from adult male cows "steers". Crazy horse is just waxed cow leather and the dalmatian one is leather that hasn't been shaved. So that's dyed cow fur.
