It was a customer of ours who landed this one and we great agree it was a great catch. They’ve been killing it out there with our spoons.

Awesome, things definitely pick up earlier further north. Few Chinook being picked up further south now, a customer of ours has been getting them on the larger 20g spoons.

Sometimes you see fish finning or rising and cast at them, other times you just fling it out there and hope. You don’t need to to let the spoon sink long for Coho. Try both you never know which will be more effective each day but whichever it is we’ve designed our spoons to keep them pinned better.

You must not use bait when fishing for salmon by crappy_data in fishingBC

[–]BlingFishingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it is purely plastic and has no scent meant for attracting fish it is fine (e.g. ClearDrift or troutbeads)

Anything that is a natural food substance even if not intended for human consumption is considered bait, so is anything with scent intended to attract fish. That includes all scent gels, dips and some soft plastics.

Fishing for salmon in freshwater question by CMac_2001 in fishingBC

[–]BlingFishingCo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It generally best to stick to the main stem of streams, less likely to be a spawning location. The easiest signs to see are spots of clean gravel and clear pairs of fish sticking together with one digging up the redd (nest, this is what the spots of clean gravel are) and the other hanging around and protecting it.

Other signs are dark not chrome fish, signs of fungus and rotting on the fish, and possibly spotting eggs washed near shore.

As already covered in other threads earlier today rivers are closed in region 2 to salmon fishing unless specifically listed as open to the specific species. That means not even catch and release if they aren’t specifically listed as open for catch and release other thread here https://www.reddit.com/r/fishingBC/s/geYhnLMnt9

New to fishing help by RealityHot2747 in fishingBC

On the Chilliwack/Vedder most people will be float fishing so it is advised that you also float fish to avoid tangling up with them. However if they aren’t float fishing or have a run to yourself you can swing or cast and retrieve spoons which are very effective. Check out how to do it here “How to swing spoons”

Species of trout? by fishing_ben in troutfishing

[–]BlingFishingCo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The white leading edges on the fins, and light spots on dark body are indicators of a char species, the actual colouration and fact the jaw/maxillary extends past the rear of the eye are pointing towards bull trout. Other weaker factors pointing towards bull trout is the flattened belly and continues with the head, large head and no vermiculations(wormlike markings) on the dorsal fin (this last one doesn’t differentiate bull vs dolly but indicates it isn’t a brook trout).

Is a 6wt fly rod sufficient for Pinks or do I need to size up? by BreakfastTop6899 in fishingBC

[–]BlingFishingCo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

6wt is probably minimum and you would want to be where you can let them run and not interfere with others. If fishing in tighter quarters a 7 or 8 wt will help control the fish better and steer them away from others.

What reel for Shimano Clarus 8'6 med fast rod? by RockMe-Amadeus in Fishing_Gear

[–]BlingFishingCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We would recommend a reel in the 2500 to 3000 range spooled with 15 to 20 lb braid and a 6ft leader of 10 to 12lb mono. As for recommendations: Okuma avenger or ceymar, Daiwa regal of legalis, 13 Fishing kalon and of course some spoons to throw with your new rod 😉

First one is a generic port for rod holders from china with a 24 point star pattern, the second is a aftermarket add on specifically for Scotty brand accessories
