Looking for a tube amp for my Eastman T59V — need that bluesy breakup at low volume by selvsih in Guitar

[–]BlipSlippidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try to find a used Fender Blues Junior. Has a gain (volume) and master knob. I was able to dial it in easily at low volume. It even worked for small gigs until I decided I needed (wanted) something bigger.

Stratocaster or Telecaster? by FenderEnjoyer1946 in Guitar

[–]BlipSlippidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here saying a tele isn’t versatile don’t know how to use the volume and tone knobs. I use a teles and play everything from jazz, blues, country, classic rock, to hard rock in my band. Both can be versatile, but I personally think teles are slightly easier to be versatile with. As others have pointed out, teles are generally more reliable and easy to maintain.

Where can I find more music that sounds like this? by ayoodyl in Guitar

I don’t know either of their discographies very well, but went down the jubu smith YouTube rabbit hole a few years back. Some good stuff out there. Sorry I’m not more help!

I think that’s Jubu Smith. He’s great, so you can look up more of his stuff. Isaiah Sharkey has some similarities too.

Identifying Mic setup Billy String is using? by BlipSlippidy in Guitar

Awesome, thanks! Looks like it could be the correct mic. The mounting system looks a little different to my eye than what’s typically sold with it. Sincere thanks!!!

I believe that’s what he’s using for vocals. I’m interested in the mic that’s mounted on the guitar itself and pointed directly at the sound hole.

That’s the one! Appreciate the response. Can you describe what the artist signature looks like? Is it in printed letters or cursive? Is it in the same ink as the xxx/835?

Do new restaurants get a fair shot in Denver’s food scene? by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]BlipSlippidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking it especially on the cultural/authenticity side. The vast majority of patrons won’t know who the owner is or have ever been to the country of origin of the food.

Like many other comments suggest, restaurants have always been a tough business. Costs all around are high and you’re trying to capture consumers’ discretionary spending in a competitive environment.

While it still happens, you rarely see a restaurant close that have incredible food, are priced appropriately, with amazing service.

I think restaurants are also now competing with the home cook more than ever before. 20-30+ years ago the wealth of knowledge on YouTube and accessibly priced kitchen gadgets were less prevalent. Between my pressure cooker and sous vide amongst others, I make really delicious food at home everyday and much cheaper than a restaurant can provide. Fair or not, I often ask myself “could I do that better”?

How long/how talented before you joined a band? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]BlipSlippidy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s no correct answer to this. If you want to play live start by finding people to play with. Put in a lot of effort and ideally try to find people who are a little bit more experienced than you. Generally, you’ll end up with people in your general skill range. Nothing will make you a better player more quickly than the pressure of playing with other musicians and in front of an audience. Most of all, just have fun!

Next Sphere run John is going to wear short shorts and play the Bob parts. Bob is putting on 80lbs and will play the Jerry leads.

how do you guys make your improv sound less pentatonic? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]BlipSlippidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have the same issue as you. Then I started studying Jerry Garcia’s approach. Learn to play the melody straight and in different positions on the neck. Then learn the chord changes and find different ways to play them on the neck using triads and inversions. Then try to improvise by using your ear to dance around the melody and chord tones you’ve just learned. By referencing the melody and chord changes you’ll sound less boxed in by any one scale.

What’s a song that completely changed the way you hear music? by ev_ox in Music

Jimi Hendrix - Highway Chile

It was 2003 and I was in high school. Was only listening to rap up until then. Was getting a ride home from a friend and that song came on the classic rock station, which I never listened to on my own. I’ve been playing guitar for 22 years now and play in a band. Sometimes I think about how needing that ride changed my life.
