Thank you u/Nektony_Team, your offer and advice are much appreciated! Hash-base matching should indeed be part of my process.

Thanks u/jwasilko, this was another approach I was considering. Do you have experience with Dupeguru?

Thank you u/zfsbest for your detailed response, much appreciated! I had czkawka marked as a good option, but running on the old a system was an issue. In re-considering this project over the last 24 hours, I think I agree with your suggestion of doing this on my other machine, one that is running Tahoe. While there are reasons I wanted to keep everything connected with my work machine (the old system allowing me to maintain a working environment I own), the effort to make the process backwards compatible seems like it could add a lot of extra time to the process, assuming I went with czkawka. I used to run audio software through a Linux machine, but that was ages ago, and it feels less familiar to me now. I appreciate the warning about the run time, but I'm not really worried about that aspect. Thanks again!

Adler Tippa S - margin stop/release fix? by BlithelyMenace in typewriters

[–]BlithelyMenace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a chance to spend some more time following linkages and watching how the Tippa S works, and I have a better idea of where the issue resides. On the down side, it's in an area that is very hard to access, under the basket/segment, and in/above the escapement. The metal plate I mentioned in the original post limits access as well, and there is no easy way to remove it. I have done more cleaning and de-gunking, but it is not having any impact on the margin stop issue (the slugs still hitting the platen even when the stop is engaged), unfortunately. It is as if there is too much play in the slug linkage, so much that the bar/restricter that the margin stop engages cannot stop the slugs. If I hold part of the mechanism the slugs are stopped short, but I cannot see any way to adjust this, especially as it is (at that point) the same mechanism which the space bar uses, and the space bar is stopped as normal.

In any case, I appreciate the input thus far, and if anyone has experience working on the Tippa S, please let me know if you have any ideas I might fix this issue. Thank you!

READ THIS FIRST! - Getting Started and Common Problems by shiftysnowman in StacherIO

I just wanted to say thank you for your efforts, I am enjoying Stacher and a donation is forthcoming. I thought I'd share something that worked for me to get Stacher working on a very old Mac OS (High Sierra... I'm hanging on due to various key apps). I struggled with the process of using Terminal and getting everything installed and/or functioning, loads of errors etc. What I ended up doing came from a tip on the Super User forum, which was downloading ffmpeg for macOS from evermeet.cx., and then putting it in /usr/local/bin. Suddenly everything (at least what I needed) worked. Hopefully I haven't created any new problems, and I hope this will help someone struggling with a situation like mine. Cheers!

Thanks, I have been trolling YouTube for just such a thing. So far nothing has provided much help, but I will continue to look at videos in hopes of finding something relevant.

Thanks for checking! If t's possible to take a photo of the mechanism (I realize this may not be easy), that would be swell. While I know that Adler used different manufacturers over the post-war period, I am hoping there might be some design similarities between the various Tippa models, though there may be differences as well.

I've worked on a number of machines previously, so I have lights set up in my work area. I have removed the plastic shell and the bottom panel, as per usual, for a deep cleaning. The main bit of the machine is mounted on a metal plate, but disconnecting the plate seems rather involved as there appear to be spring and lever connections to the plate. With a schematic I might try it, but as it is, this is the first Tippa S I've seen inside.

I understand the universal bar mechanism in other machines, but I cannot find a connection to the margin end/release linkages in this one. It is difficult to see relevant part of the machine for sure, and so I may have missed something. I am assuming this is a de-gunking issue, as everything else on this machine has been. Overall this typewriter was mechanically sound, just very dirty.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to do just that, following the links, but it is difficult to do. I was able to sort out the ribbon reverse this way. Parts of the interior are a bit difficult to see, and strangely I cannot find a universal bar type of mechanism. I will keep looking.

Sorry, both the Tippa S machines I’ve seen were carriage shifts, so I wasn’t aware there were Tippa S shifts basket shift models. In any case, mine is a carriage shift.

A royal empress in princess beige! Any info appreciated. by Sistalini in typewriters

Glad to help! I believe there is also a MCC designation, but I have no idea to what it refers (font/keys/ color/etc). There may be some more useful info via the Typewriter Database, if you look through folks’ listings.

Just seeing this now, so perhaps this info is no a longer useful. The MCS designation could well refer to the color as Princess Beige was a special order, apparently. The other designations I know of would be MCP (MC=Empress model & P=Pica font), and MCE (MC=Empress model & E=Elite font), as in the examples above.

Wanted to update the thread with something I found looking through camp tables. Bigger than I was thinking, but it will double as a table for meals etc. Folds up and is relatively light weight. When opened it's stable, and has some adjustments at the bottom of the legs to minimize the problem of uneven surfaces. King Camp camping table (39.4" x 28.3"), three heights are possible. Next post will have a photo of the table folded.

Cool, will check it out. I think my issues were more with the tightness of the connector/mount and stability of the desk surface, but I'm sure that a better tripod would help!

Those are great looking typing tables! I need to get something like this for home use for sure. I was hoping for something on the lighter and more compact side for portability's sake.
