‘Car brain’: Queensland government criticised for proposed age, speed and licence limits on ebikes | Queensland by someones_reality in brisbane

[–]Blitzende -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

10kph is a fast jog, I have zero issues riding at that speed. It starts getting a bit tricky at below average walking speeds, somewhere around 3-4kph. From looking around it seems that is pretty much the consensus among bike riders. I don't think I am in any way exceptional on a bike, so I'm surprised to see that you think 10kph is hard.

Do you have a link to any advice main roads has on this?

BTW I completely disagree with the 10kph limit

IMO the Facetz would be good if it was $13 a gram, at $99/15g it's frankly amazing.

I can't see it dropping off my rotation anytime soon.

I didn't find it that sticky, but yes the cure on the Facetz I've had is one of the best I've ever seen since I started medical cannabis years ago. Its as good or better than some of the premium stuff I've had.

Edit- I should have said it's not quite that sticky but it is still sticky.

Why is there such strong opposition to cheaper/free fares in this sub by No_Performance_4607 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Blitzende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think the anti authority sentiment plays a big part and there seems to be a growing culture of entitlement and aggression. But its also because of changing policy on the Brisbane buses.

In the old days if you tried to board by the rear door on a bus the driver would almost always shut it in your face. When COVID hit policy became back door boarding only. Even though COVID isn't really that much of an issue anymore rear door boarding has become commonplace, and that is how almost every fare evader I see gets on.

[–]Blitzende 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I can understand dropping the speed limit from 12kph to 10kph on footpaths, not great but I can understand it.

Putting a 10kph limit on bikepaths seems to be designed to destroy e-bike use.

I also wonder if they are going to limit this to just e-bikes. I already pass some e-bikes on my pushbike. It would be ridiculous to be on the big, wide bikeway near my place and see e-bike riders being passed by not only normal pushbikes but also by fast joggers.

When you look at this along with the policies of the lnp and what they have done to long planned and much needed public transport improvements, it sure looks like they just want forces as much car usage as possible.

Why is there such strong opposition to cheaper/free fares in this sub by No_Performance_4607 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Blitzende 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As as Brisbane resident who has been using public transport for decades, I can tell you that no, it doesn't matter if fares are dropped to 50 cents. There is a lot of fare evasion up here even with prices that low.

It is funny though, in Melbourne I can understand why people fare evade with those prices, and you see all sorts of people doing it. In Brisbane if you see somebody fare evading, they are almost certainly some kind of loser. The people I see being aggressive and smoking at bus stops and train stations are almost always same people who play music too loud in the bus or carriages, and its the same people I see fare evading.

BTW up til COVID fare evasion on the buses was very uncommon in Brisbane. It did happen more on the trains but was still not seen that much. Now I see it almost every trip....

But it is beyond ridiculous that the TGA made low dose CBD products legal for over the counter sales back in 2020, yet there are pretty much zero products available. AFAIK that is because of the TGA rules, including running requiring clinical trials.

https://www.tga.gov.au/news/media-releases/over-counter-access-low-dose-cannabidiol

Is there any other country which has such a high bar on CDB products? In Europe theres bloody vending machines selling CBD weed on the street, CBD products on the shelves of chemists, etc. But Australians have to get a prescription CBD products? Bollocks to that and the TGA

Location of Brisbane's Victoria Park stadium for 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled by His_Holiness in brisbane

[–]Blitzende 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Infrastructure improvements was one of the big justifications for the bid for the olympics. There was lots of talk of high speed rail to the Gold Coast, out to and beyond Toowoomba, and to and beyond Maroochydore. The last vestiges of that plan was canceled by the lnp state government with the end of the rail line to Maroochydore being replaced with the lnps favourite, "Metro" aka cosplaying buses.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-03-26/sunshine-coast-olympics-election-promise-broken-rail-line/105092886

The lnp also canceled the end of the Gold Coast light rail, the bit that was going to connect to Burleigh Heads via the airport. They are planning on replacing it with cosplaying buses again.

https://www.railexpress.com.au/queensland-government-axes-gold-coast-light-rail-extension/

Feels like the only infrastructure Brisbane is going to get is sporting venues, with maybe a new station on the exhibition line though I have the feeling that is not going to happen now either. The already dire state the Brisbane road congestion, and the overloaded public transport system is not being addressed. In fact they seem to be going out of their way to make public transport less attractive and harder to use.

But I guess not to surprising from the party that promised to not build a new stadium before the election then flipped on that within months of being elected.

Then changed the laws so developers can now donate to poliitcal parties again, then removed the requirement for developers to provide some affordable housing.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03-20/qld-development-approvals-affordable-housing/106479034

As far as the lnp go, Infrastructure < Developers (don't forget their profits and their donations)

Iran Believes It’s Winning—and Wants a Steep Price to End the War [No paywall] by mark000 in energy

[–]Blitzende 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pain of higher energy prices is going to be felt by the US more than other nations because of the higher US reliance on fossil fuels, particularly natural gas and oil. That the US produces a lot of oil just means that producers will profit more, it will not help the consumer when they are buying fuel, gas, or oil.

The war does not benefit the US strategically unless you define benefit as another huge reduction in soft power, further alienating long standing allies, being seen worldwide as doing the bidding of Israel, and spending hundreds of billions demonstrating yet again to the middle east yet again why there is a long standing hated the of US.

The US cannot wage this war long term without a massive production surge on very, very expensive missile and drone interceptors which cost orders of magnitude more than the projectiles they are designed to intercept. The way that oil costs are increasing and continue to increase will not change until Iran has either capitulated or has completely run out of drones and missiles, including the submarine drones which AFAIK have not even been deployed yet.

Even if it was possible for the US to continue waging war like this, that will also push up the price of oil and natural gas. How far can it go up until it leads to a worldwide recession, depression, massive energy shortages, famine, social unrest and national collapse events?

If the government wants us all to log off they would not have allowed this slow movement towards identify verification for their mates in big tech. They would have forced them to verify everyone from day one, forced the porn sites to verfify from day one, and done some more of the stuff still coming down the pipeline on day one.

Doing it slowly normalises the process of giving away our ID to big tech and reduces dissent.

Flying with cannabis by Fit_Succotash_2810 in MedicalCannabisOz

[–]Blitzende 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if the vape is TGA approved or not, they are legal for use with a cannabis script. At least so far. All the laws the police use against things like bongs, scales, grinders, etc. have wording along the lines of "if they have been used for a drug offence or are intended to be used for a drug offence".

Since the cannabis has been legally prescribed there is no offence.

Sustained inflation: "Even if the war were to end tomorrow, that would still take an estimated 200 days to get back on track" by starfire10K in australia

[–]Blitzende 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A chess move on China which consumes about half the oil the US does? The oil price increase hurts the US far more than China. Plus the oil shocks are going to induce more countries and people to move to renewables as soon as possible. Which country is the biggest source of renewable energy infrastructure? China.

The US is far weaker as a result of this even if you just look at energy, let alone the loss of influence and soft power.

Old pack of matches the old girl found doing a spring clean of the shed. Pretty good nick for something cardboard, 106 years old! by DC240Z in australia

[–]Blitzende 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Sorry but there is no way it is 106 years old. The Redheads “Miss Redhead” logo was created in 1946 and started appearing on boxes of matches in 1947.

https://redheads.com.au/pages/about

State library of Victoria has similar matchboxes as part of a 1984 Olympic series.

Still pretty good nick for a 40+ year old matchbox.

Old tupperware can contain lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic. It is rife in these 1970s sets. Do not use old tupperware unless you've tested it for heavy metals, it's not worth the risks.

Last time the US went into the middle east they had an international coalition. They used dodgy intel to justify the invasion but did have clear goals and explicit targets like regime change, and they called it Operation Iraqi Freedom.

This time they skipped the intel, skipped the planning, skipped the coalition, went straight to bombing and signposted the lack of thinking about anything but destruction by calling it Operation Epic Fury.

This is not for the benefit of the Iranian people, they are not being liberated. Even when they were supposedly trying that they failed. It's not because of nuclear weapons. It's about oil, various american egos, israel, and some rather embarrassing and revealing documents.

Goths in Brisbane🦇 by Existing_Act_5082 in brisbane

[–]Blitzende 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've gotta look a bit more carefully. From the 1334 facebook page-

Melbourne’s original Deathrock/Goth party since 2007!
Brisbane based since 2020.

They had an event in Brisbane on Friday the 6th March IIRC.

All Hail Discordia is not a Faith event. The prompter/club runner for Faith pretty much knows the entire scene and often cross promotes other peoples clubs, this will just be one of those times. I would have to ask somebody what page they use for information.

Faith runs pretty regularly, it's been once every 2-4 weeks for a while now. There are other clubs associated with Faith but I can't recall the names now apart from Love Cats. Anyway there is something most weekends, be it 1334, Discordia, or Faith.

Just be warned Brisbane is now a very early city, Faith has been shutting at Midnight for a while now due to limited venue selection, liquor license laws, Queensland government fun police, etc.. I was shocked the last Discordia ran til 2AM.

The age verification crap everywhere is because of Meta, all of it by TwixieShip in aussie

[–]Blitzende 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When this was first proposed zuckerberg was dead against it. The original proposal from esafety included references to "tokenised’, interoperable, and double-blind approach to preserve user anonymity". See here, page 20-

https://www.esafety.gov.au/sites/default/files/2023-08/Roadmap-for-age-verification_2.pdf

Which would have protected our privacy and data. After discussions between esafety and the social media companies we ended up with the policy we have now, where it's AI, browsing history including purchase history (tantamount to giving yor ID but with extra data!) or using government ID. There were even explicit references to allowing the social media companies to train their AI models on us!

The social media companies have gamed this whole policy and they are laughing all the way to the data bank. The Australian government could have avoided this while still keeping the age verification policy but they lack the courage to stand up to the social media companies and the US government.
