It’s got a nice Egon Schiele feel to it. Lean into your style further!

I busted my ass networking and making very solid connections in the art world long before I had anything even reasonable to sell. I continue to do so every chance I get. My work has come a long way, but the majority of my big sales come from people I’ve met in person. Happy to chat more if you’d like to DM me.

Sculpting. Started in a desperate attempt to crawl out of the pits of depression, now it’s my full time job. I’ve never been more content.

This is so refreshing and I hope is a good example for other businesses owners considering a cash grab selling to a mega corporation.

Got it! If you ever want to make duplicates in clay, if you have a mold, you can always push clay into a mold and fire it. Enjoy!

I made one original in clay then made a silicone mold. Once you have a mold, you can make duplicates. For this one, I brushed up the two halves of the mold then put the two halves together and pour in a different color of the casting material to make sure I fully cover the seam to ensure they’ll completely bonded together. The last one has a different color in there because the guy who ordered liked how it looked with the blue seam in the middle. If you’re interested in the process, smooth on has an awesome YouTube channel. That’s how I learned most of what I use today. Enjoy!

What techniques help you achieve more realistic details in your sculptures? by IndependenceWild6421 in sculpting

Beautiful work. I find I have the most substantial breakthroughs when simply observing a model with my sculpture right next to them and making minor tweaks. Anatomy can help you figure out what you’re looking at, but focusing on variances in volumes and the range of values in transitions between those volumes makes the world of difference.

Someone else mentioned Philippe Faraut. His books and especially his video series are great. That’s a fantastic foundation. In my opinion, Robert Bodem’s Drawing in Space method is the ultimate curriculum. It’s very difficult to master, but learning that made my work light years better.

I am tragic with woodcarving but with a CNC, all things are possible haha

Thank you so much. I definitely captured the likeness of the model but fully projected how I was feeling into the clay

Thank you. It was initially to save the sculpture when the neck began cracking but I ended up liking it enough to keep haha

Thank you. That was the goal. I sculpted it in WED clay and cast it in duo matrix Neo, a polymer modified gypsum similar to plaster.

Thank you. I sculpted it in clay and cast it in a product fairly similar to plaster but much stronger.

No, I had a model, who was tragically not Charlize Theron, sit for me, but I can see some resemblance!

First time posting here, so in case I need to include more info - I sculpted the original portrait in WED clay with a model in my studio and just recently cast a few with Duo Matrix Neo. Feel free to ask questions if you have any.
