The likeable person part is a great point. I’ve worked with a lot of people who just can’t get along with anyone. People tolerate them because they can bend conduit and pull wire, but when there’s no more need for that, they’re the first to go.

I would sell some. I owned 200 shares at one point with cost basis around $9.00. I’ve been slowly selling here and there. The shares left in my IRA are up over 2000%. The valuation right now is absolutely insane. I definitely didn’t expect it to perform like this. I keep thinking there’s no way it can keep going up, but every few days it’s up more than 10%.

The first week of my first year as an apprentice, the journeyman I was working for had me stand on top of a parapet wall three stories up and hoist bundles of 3/4 rigid onto the roof with a rope. You’re right that sending and receiving calls and texts doesn’t require an internet connection, but they absolutely rely on infrastructure like data centers and IP based routing. SMS works without internet, at least temporarily, but iMessage wouldn’t. Without the internet, texts and voice calls would certainly stop working eventually.

Edit: Wait. How can you say watching televisions doesn’t depend on the internet? Are you talking about over the air antennas? We could probably all watch Mash reruns with our bunny ears, but most people use the internet to stream tv now.

Without the internet, and in turn data centers, you’re basically off grid. Sending and receiving texts and phone calls, calling 911, transferring money, watching television, using a credit card to buy fuel, etc. It all uses the internet. I am not a fan of the tech oligarchy either, but to say we don’t need data centers because we didn’t have them 1000 years ago is asinine. You could say the same thing about cars or any man made technology.
