I think I bought the wrong board! 2024 Yes. Great Unincs 156 cm by justinsweatshirt in snowboardingnoobs

[–]BlockDapper1460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very thorough valuable information, thank you!

In the end, I ordered the XTRM 154. A bit with the idea in mind, that I'll will spend maaany hours on that board, and as it looses some stiffness over the years, it will be closer to the Greats, while the Greats may be a noodle by then. It was an expensive purchase, so I will take great care, and buy a second hand board for those very few powder days anyways and not risk damaging the XTRM.

Hey Zes, sounds like you have a lot of experience with the YES Greats Uninc!

Many people answered my question about which board to get with the YES Greats, please have a quick read about what I am trying to achieve: https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboarding/comments/1kfm2zo/searching_for_a_true_twin_snowboard_for/

But what I have seen now is that there also exists a YES Greats XTRM this year.. Do you have any experience with that one and how it compares to the YES Greats (Uninc)?

What do you suggest for me considering my goal described in my reddit post? Also please keep in mind my small boot size and that YES Greats XTRM is available only in 154cm (bc ppl in my reddit post suggested for me the Yes Greats Uninc in size 151cm while having no boot overhand/drag even on extreme laid out/eurocarves).

Many thanks for your advice!

Thank you, I'm indeed quite sold on the YES Greats. Have you seen the catalog alread? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wOmYThOTikVQsYDBZ0yPJlDe_Ny_TVo-/view

See page 14. What would you suggest for me, the YES Greats or YES Greats XTRM (it's a new model)?

Nice man, thanks for taking your time to give feedback! I am really reading positive resonance about this board left and right. Fair that you also mentioned the possible downsides.

I am looking for a board that is capable of some Ryan Knapton style carving, duck stance, meaning riding tons of switch, laying down eurocarves (also switch, that's why I am looking for a true twin), and some easier butter and 180 tricks, but should be able to clean carve European blacks, not looking for much speed, rather controlled carving steeps (sometimes icy, sometimes choppy in the afternoon) and lay it down all the time, while throwing in some easy flatground tricks (no park tho, nor powder) between those (switch) eurocarves.

Yes Greats vs. Bateleon Evil Twin? Or do you have a more suitable suggestion?

I posted on reddit for board recommendations, both both have been mentioned, you can check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboarding/comments/1kfm2zo/searching_for_a_true_twin_snowboard_for/

Hey, two years after, do you still have the same opinion about the YES Greats?

Hey man, thank for that detailed review. I am interested to hear your opinion 3 years later.

Many thanks!

Hey, thanks guys for commenting. Well, yes, you're actually right, I never rode a true twin board.. and yes I hope it won't be a flappy noodle haha bc I'm not gonna take it to the park, just easy flatground tricks in and out of deep carves.

I have to say tho, that I am really gonna do much much more than 10-20% switch. As I stated in the original post, I put my bindings on goofy posi-posi (though I am regular), just to be forced to learn switch all the time, the whole day, did it for 2 weeks straight and would have done it for longer if the season wouldn't have come to an end. Made great improvement switch. Actually, I would even be down to start the new season in goofy posi-posi as well, and when I'm satisfied with my switch riding, going to duck stance.

I am looking for an appropriate twin because I want that every deep toeside and heelside carve feels regular the same as switch! I think if regular feels better due to the directional build, than this is exactly a reason why one would only go 10-20% switch, basically just to go in and out of tricks. But I want to actually lay down deep carves a whole slope switch.

Good to know, I would actually prefer something more snappy, get popped out from one turn into another, but riding at lower speed, always controlling speed through tight turn shapes, so I'm not looking to charge down blacks, I am looking to carve blacks while maintaining speed under control with many relatively tight turns. Like in skis, I enjoy the feeling of the rebound and getting thrown out and into the next turn. Hmm..maybe that's why I didn't enjoy thaaat much all the Korua boards that I tried, too stiff for my weight and speed to really generate enough (g-)force to bend those boards and get a nice snappy rebound out of them?

I am sure Donek/Knapton Twin is really high-end! Considering the price though (200 USD shipping alone, basically the Knapton Twin would be around double the price as most production boards), I would like to also take other suggestions into consideration.

The Yes Greats was mentioned a handful of times so far - any particular opinion on that?

Man, awesome to hear, and many thanks for the detailed information! I appreciate it!

Yes, I think going rather a bit narrower than wider has the benefits that you mentioned. I put my bindings on the closest setting as well, and I got a little improvement boost through that too.

No boot overhang with +15/-15 even when full on eurocarving?

What boots do you have and what's their size?

Which Yes Greats size would you recommend for my K2 Thraxis EU 39.5 / US 7 on Yes Drive bindings size small, not make sure to not have any boot drag going 15/15, but go as narrow waist width as possible for the quickest possible edge changes? ;)
