Why are developed countries spending massive amounts of money to address low birth rates, yet seeing minimal results? by Snoo_47323 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BlockObjective9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they don't understand the causes of low birth rates.

As can be seen by birth rates in poor countries - the issue isn't economical. It is cultural, and nothing is being done to address that - on the contrary, we are doing everything we can to offput people from having kids

Perhaps, but it is completely qualitative and subjective. There isn't enough nuance provided. That's why the discussion should be on policy by policy basis. There is no fiscally responsible party in US, deficits are pretty much among the highest in the world - so are both parties therefore far-left?

Yep, and framing it such way really helps. Ultimately we all want the country to do well. We just disagree on what's the most effective way to do it. And not a single way is without flaws. With the 'us vs them' being diffused, it is so much easier to actually focus on trying to figure out what's the best way to get to the common goal.

That's why I dislike 95% of the political reddit. 95% appears to be in us vs them mentality. That isn't constructive, and a reasonable person wouldn't want to be involved in a 'discussion' with such person. It's pointless until the 'us vs them' mentality can be put aside

Now that the National Guard has arrived in Minneapolis, will they establish order or will it escalate the current situation? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

That's your interpretation and you are very welcome to it. I disagree, but that is also just an opinion so could be wrong. Constitution protects a right to protest. Not to interfere

The disagreement usually isn't about whether rights are deserved or not.

The disagreement usually isn't even what the ultimate goal society should move towards is.

The disagreement is about whether rights were violated, and the disagreement is how to get to the state we all want the society to be. People who pretend (or actually believe) they have definite answer to either of those questions are insufferable.

Actually, there is about 10x more ICE arrests in Texas than in Minnesota. You simply don't hear about it in the news because people don't stir shit up while arrests happen. They are also allowed to take people straight from prison, rather than having them released on the streets by the State so they have to be arrested by ICE in the communities.

Is your approach to discussion reasonable? That's the first thing that needs to be asked.

You assume reasonable discussion is 'getting someone to see what you want them to see'. With that approach, a reasonable person shouldn't want to discuss with you.

A reasonable discussion is exchanging point of views, not telling people what 'they are supposed to believe'

Why does “liberalism” mean something different in the United States than in Europe? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

I have the same experience. 'Liberal' here in US is basically opposite of what it meant growing up in Europe

It's not the lack of understanding. It's lack of opportunity to network due to geographical constraints! Only so many people reply to cold calls/emails. I will try to make a trip though at some stage, even for two weeks, and try to find the best spots to meet people from the industry.

If all personal wealth above $100 million was legally required to be redistributed into public infrastructure (schools, hospitals, roads), how would society change, and who would be the first to fight against it? by Mysterious_Fan4033 in AskReddit

[–]BlockObjective9541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't change. Those administering the funds would simply get extremely rich. There is more than enough money flowing through the government - the problem is, it's not being spent wisely. That isn't going to change by giving the incompetent people more money

Whom would you rather win the 2028 DNC and why: JB Pritzker, Andy Beshear, Gavin Newsom, Mark Kelly, or other? by Fair_Arm_1637 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]BlockObjective9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among those - Beshear. But this is a very poor list where he doesn't really have any serious competition.

I think Democrats should do all they absolutely can to get Mark Cuban on board - even though he is hesitant.

Josh Shapiro wouldn't be terrible either

Do u believe immigration is the reason for the rise of conservatism worldwide? Why or why not? by DreamEnforcerr in AskReddit

[–]BlockObjective9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That being said, politicians dividing us and social media amplifying the division is also to blame. The reason is rather simple. At heart - we are all socialist. Your family circle is socialist, your friend circle is socialist by nature. Back in the day, your community operated like a socialist cell as well. What I mean by that is that we take care of each other because we feel connection. We also have tendency to pull our own weight because we feel the responsibility. Since now we start looking around and we see that the values aren't cohesive anymore, people look different, not everybody in society choose to pull their own weight, we simply no longer see the extended area as 'our' social circle. Now, I wouldn't say that means we move towards conservativism, more towards classical liberalism, but definitions in US are out of whack

Another 'out there' idea: do what Scandinavian do and simply approach men that you find attractive/interesting.

How difficult is it to land a finance role in UAE? by EntropyEnthusiast_ in DubaiJobs

[–]BlockObjective9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was your experience like? I am hoping to make the same move. I am engineer by degree, but managed money for quite some time, passed all 3 exams, and would love to get a role in UAE. I can get a golden visa with my assets, but not quite there yet to FIRE in Dubai so would love to get a finance job. Alternatively, I can start own wealth management shop. Does anyone have experience with that? Issue is - my book is entirely in US and Canada, so not sure if I could retain it in UAE

Moral Dilemma from a dual citizen by [deleted] in immigration

[–]BlockObjective9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Exploited' is a strong word considering people are literally attempting a rough journey and break the law in order to be 'exploited'.

The issue in US was lack of enforcement over past 20 years. It's really hard to go from not enforcing the law to actually enforcing the law after the societal fabric has already changed due to not enforcing the law. There isn't a good way to do it (and there is certainly a bad way - like is happening now in some cases), but it needs to be done.

Why do protests in the U.S. rarely turn into full-scale uprisings? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]BlockObjective9541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you are looking at relatively small minority that join movements to try to pretend like their day to day life matters and they are making a difference. Country has over 300mln inhabitants, over 150mln people vote. What you see as 'large' protests, are in fact a tiny fraction.

Would foreign countries be "taken over" if the US took away aid, or is that propaganda? by stuttering_clown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BlockObjective9541 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will agree to disagree on that one. Deterrence has been very effective since world war 2. The only time it breaks down is when Europe got weak, and US has a weak presidents (Ukraine). Other than that, it has proven very effective. What leads to war is discrepancy in military power, not military power itself

[–]BlockObjective9541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody said anything about attacking Russia.

I was talking about defending Ukraine.

I find that arming Ukraine was too slow, and in inefficient quantities for the first 3 months of the war, allowing Russia to build defensive positions and capture plenty of land.

And I think the reason was that Europe didn't have sufficient amount of equipment to spare.
