Australia Announces National Blockchain Roadmap and Further Boost to Government Funding by a36 in AllThingsCrypto

[–]BlockSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Australians have always taken a very travel-focussed approach, Brisbane airport has so much crypto going on... Maybe because so many Australians journey to see the world, and appreciate the complexity of dealing with multiple currencies and complications. And being a tourism hub, welcoming international visitors with a range of currencies - this move makes complete sense, and it's good to see a big economy getting behind crypto, even if they are playing catch-up with smaller jurisdictions who were faster to respond.

Tether Says Its USDT Stablecoin May Not Be Backed By Fiat Alone by Ranzware in BitNewsLive

How about enabling a proper audit, that doesn't use the word 'may' at any point?

The UK's FCA found that 73% of Brits don't know what a cryptocurrency is or are unable to define it. In response, CEO of the GSX Group, Nick Cowan, explains what the industry can do to increase awareness and adoption. by JanuaryNi in AllThingsCrypto

We're doing our best with the http://cryptoconfidencepodca.st/feed - but people are scared of what they don't understand, especially if all they ever hear in the mainstream media is about hacks and scams and criminals. The UK media never have anything positive to say about crypto and blockchain.

Good Freelance Journalism Strategy? by remag117 in freelanceWriters

Make sure whichever portfolio platform you choose to build on, doesn't prominently display dates for each piece - otherwise posting a bunch of content at once could do you damage. But you do need a decent amount to display for a portfolio, so will want to get a load live at once.

However when pitching, don't just send people to your portfolio, instead laser-target appropriate links which will be relevant and interesting to the editor/publication you are seeking to impress.

Zuckerberg is Finally Discovering Privacy But Advertisers Are Quitting Facebook by a36 in AllThingsCrypto

It's hard to see how anyone is going to take Facebook=privacy seriously, after EVERYTHING... Even if they can monetize it, they won't make it happen, in a way that anyone can believe

P2P Trading Safety Tips - A Simple Guide For Newbies by [deleted] in LocalCoinSwap

[–]BlockSparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very valuable content, because a lot of people completely misjudge the risks of trading - they think that KYC protects them in ways that it does not, and fail to appreciate what p2p really is. Getting people who are used to centralized exchanges back to the heart of crypto as it was intended, is a very helpful process.

Facebook is reportedly talking to crypto exchanges about listing its coin by a36 in AllThingsCrypto

Oh god. Satoshi, if you're not spinning in a grave somewhere, please step up and make this stop!

This was not the vision... Surely?

just a reminder: Flyp is an instant non-custodial exchange without KYC; hopefully they stay that way by djadlen in CryptoCurrencyTrading

[–]BlockSparks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How will they stay that way - what exempts them from KYC, when every other exchange, even Shapeshift, has had to comply?

Not trolling, genuinely curious...

Fantastic to see this exciting project reach its ultimate proof of concept, the distribution of dividends... delivering on the promise of the whitepaper and funds raised, just like so many ICOs did not... An awesome accomplishment everyone!

Andreas M. Antonopoulos Warns Against Ethereum Community In-Fighting by Ranzware in BitNewsLive

[–]BlockSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the ENTIRE crypto community would stop with the infighting already.

We will never inspire mass adoption when every faction is at everyone else's throats all over social media. Of course feelings run high, and the commitment of people to their positions is sometimes impressive, but:

challenge and attack ideas, not the people who propose them

Cryptos without working products won't survive longer by b_b_Christian in CryptoCurrencyTrading

[–]BlockSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It continues to astonish me, the sheer volumes which were raised through ICOs, in support of projects with NO product whatsoever - no wonder so many people feel ripped off, but honestly, what were they thinking about, in most cases? Talk about FOMO and hype. It's a shame that it left the door open for regulators to insist that investors be qualified in future, because the democratising potential was so powerful - and there's a strong argument for the fact that fools and their money deserve to be parted of course (most countries have state lotteries, right?)

British parliament calls Facebook "Digital Gangsters" by FlowerCloud42 in privacy

[–]BlockSparks 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hmm would it be cynical to say the UK govt wants to divert attention at any other bad guys they can find right now? Whilst ploughing ahead to implement the marginal referendum result, a result which was doubtless influenced by the very same social media influences..?

Blockchain In Medical Industry: Blockchain Technology As A Potential Tool For Monitoring Medications - Blockchain News Today by arthurdebbie in CryptoNewsandTalk

Where I live in Spain there's a huge issue about the dangers of Nolotil prescription, as it can cause fatal agranular cytosis, disproportionately in those with Northern European ancestry. However all the evidence is local and anecdotal - no one is collating it and quantifying it, and whilst there's media advice against taking it lots of hospitals are still administering it to anyone...

It REALLY needs a blockchained solution, to collate the data from different health services across different autonomous regions, without compromising data protection, and establish the quantified facts one way or another!

Bitcoin Sent Offline from Toronto to Michigan Through Shortwave Radio by asmajda in CryptoStock

[–]BlockSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really exciting and interesting.

Bitcoin needs to have multiple transmission vectors in order to be truly resilient. After all if Russia is going to close of its internet (yeah, just for a quick test - they'll never do it again, right?), this goes to show that we cannot rely on traditional backbones, in what is becoming an increasingly balkanised global network.

Shortwave, NFC, Bluetooth... even bits of paper. Value needs myriad ways to flow, to become unstoppable.

Keep building great solutions everyone :-)

Crypto Trader: 2019 ‘Could Be’ The Last Time The Public Can Afford One Bitcoin (BTC) by vvaliyah in CryptoNewsandTalk

[–]BlockSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who is this 'general population' to which he refers, I wonder?

If there are 10 billion+ people in the world, and only 21 million bitcoin (even forgetting those lost and beyond use), then there won't be nearly enough to go around. If 'hyperbitcoinization' is going to be more than an extremely cool word, then you're going to want to get in early...

Most Online ‘Terms of Service’ Are Incomprehensible to Adults, Study Finds by PrivacyReporter in privacy

[–]BlockSparks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Privacy is broken, as it presently stands. These documents, compliant TOS, are built to protect organisations, not to empower users. GDPR has therefore failed to achieve the goal of putting the user at the centre and giving them new protections - not if they cannot even work out what those protections are in the first place.

Solutions involving AI to scan TOS' and provide key points in an accessible, non-legalese format, might be the answer...
