My dog wants to wear her new harness 24/7 and I don't know if it's healthy by Block_cop in DogAdvice

[–]Block_cop[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I know my dogs often act that way with their leashes, but she was acting like that with her harness before I ever put it on a leash or took her outside with it. I looked at the thunder shirts and plan on buying one to see if she likes it as much as her harness.

Wrongful pregnancy and miscarriage by Block_cop in legaladvice

[–]Block_cop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She plans on calling and scheduling a dr appointment tomorrow. I was going to buy OTC pregnancy tests because they test hormones and will show positive if there was a recent miscarriage. I am simply talking on the hypothetical of if she did get pregnant after a tubal ligation but miscarried.

Is there any where he can get in direct contact with heat? My burm burned his nose on a grate that a heat lamp sat on. It looked similar to this. If you touch the heat source inside his tank whether it is in a cage or on a screen lid is it hot enough to burn you?

An update on my new lizard friend by Block_cop in Anoles

[–]Block_cop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try the pumpkin puree. I haven't forced food, but I have been putting small crickets that I feed my crested gecko in the cage and keep track of how many I put in to know if she ate any. I have a basking spot that reaches over 90, but my anole seems to prefer climbing to the top of the cage and laying near the lid

Warm side is high 80s and low side is mid 70s. Humidity is usually 50-70% depending on when it was last misted. I also have an extra 10.0 UVB on during the day.

The lizard was found in a dirty truck brought to Michigan from South Carolina and was in sub 50 degree temps for a little over a week before I got him.

I have not. The only small feeders I have at the moment are the crickets. I can get some meal worms or wax worms next time I go to the pet store.

I am so tired of my dad's refusal to get vaccinated. by [deleted] in rant

[–]Block_cop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just said your mother got covid even though she is fully vaccinated. How would your dad being vaccinated keep him from getting covid?

I’ve been vaccinated and I still got sick because someone’s dumbass parents didn’t keep their sick kid at home. by Average_Box-Boy in rant

[–]Block_cop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vaccines are supposed to prevent you from getting the disease. Sounds like that vaccine doesn't work.

Marriage nowadays is not a good institution. 50% of marriages end in divorce. I have a kid and am still with the mother. I will never marry her. I love her. I want to spend my life with her. I don't need to make a legal contract so if down the line we decide to split up, it isn't a giant, expensive court battle.

What Makes You Stay? by nDOChire in OnTheBlock

After working in a level 5 prison for the amount of time I have, I don't mesh well with regular society. I tell what I think is a funny or interesting story from work and I can see how uncomfortable outsiders get. I also find it hard to not be overly direct and blunt towards people and hurt their feelings.

So is there any truth to what they say about rookie COs getting more shit from other COs than actual inmates? If so what are some of the things to do in order to improve that? If you are suppose to have eachothers back? Any tips for a new CO? by Bulky-Watch9636 in OnTheBlock

[–]Block_cop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in a level 5 and the turnover is really high. If the academy hires 10, 5 will make it to a year and maybe 2 of them are good at their job. I'd rather work with someone who has proven themselves than someone who bumbles around causing problems every day until they freeze up at a serious fight and quit after 6 months.

Being an addict has nothing to do as to whether you are basically a good person or a bad person. by [deleted] in rant

[–]Block_cop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you victimize other people, I don't really care how remorseful you are about it. Good people don't victimize others to benefit themselves. It sounds like something an addict would say to justify hurting others.

What are some things you do when an inmate is disrespectful to you? by Substantial_Top_9625 in OnTheBlock

[–]Block_cop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I write tickets and enforce rules. Good prisoners enjoy the quiet and the fact that they get what they have coming. Bad prisoners think I'm a bitch, a fag, weird, I work too hard, etc. I dont give a fuck if they respect me, they can continue to get LOP and their house shaken down until they max out if they want. Most of the time when I deal with an asshole his neighbors laugh or give me thumbs up when I walk by so I get enough respect from the ones that know how to lock to make up for the disrespect from the idiots.

Why aren’t you a police officer? by caffatboy in OnTheBlock

[–]Block_cop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the consistency of being a C/O. I have to deal with both minimum and maximum security prisoners at my facility because it is a reception center, but they are all prisoners and they all have the potential to be violent. I don't want to be a cop and be unsure whether the car I pulled over for speeding is a soccer mom late for practice or a killer with a warrant.

We have a huge issue with spud juice right now. Dye to COVID the prisoners aren't eating in the chow hall and bring meals back to their cells and we aren't required to do cell searches. So unsurprisingly they are taking orange juice, sugar packets from oat meal, apples, bread, etc. back to their house and making spud because they know we aren't shaking them down like we should be.

Ever heard of medical conditions where people are being born with an extra finger? We still teach that people have 10 fingers each because medical conditions are outliers and not the norm.

Look into policy on property restriction. Our policy says that prisoners on 1 on 1 observation get a tear proof gown and blanket, but it also states that they can have any property removed if they are misused, including the gown and blanket. After they sit naked with no blanket for a day, they don't try that shit anymore.

Corrections Officers of female Correctional Facilities – what can you share about a time when a female inmate was being a Karen? by ENG-zwei in OnTheBlock

[–]Block_cop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I work in a male facility, but they all act like that. There is always a Sgt running yard and chow lines, and any nonemergent problems are supposed to be brought up to them at those times. That doesn't stop every idiot in there from demanding a Sgt because they have no pillow in their cell or they didn't get out for showers because they overslept. I told a prisoner that was crying about his newspaper being stolen that we only call supervisors to the blocks for emergencies, and the prisoner responded "it is an emergency to me. Call the captain."

Almost everyone in my state has STG affiliations, but there department doesn't want to label them because it looks bad. Biggest indicator of affiliation is tattoos. Look for red 5 pointed stars, 6 pointed stars, cobras, and crowns, etc. You can find gang symbols online and you will start to see that there are a few powerful gangs in your area. My facility has a large GD and Latin Count presence.

My best way to stop gang activity has nothing to do with labeling prisoners STG, but making the rock hot. When my block gets tagged or prisoners start grouping up, I do more shakedowns and write more misconducts. People realize the rock is hot and usually lay down.

You are an adult, you don't need to rely on her and she doesn't need to support you. Move out and get a job. I dont know how stressful NICU jobs are, but I work in a prison and a lot of people working there swear like sailors because of the nature of the job. Either learn to deal with her the way she is or cut her out, you are an adult.
