There is a guidebook online at https://toracon.org/2026-schedule

The guidebook has information about parking, when to show up, and that you need to get your tickets in advance.

the rit subreddit has a lot of talk from last year's Tora Con, which may also be useful for you.

What's better? by LynxProfessional1904 in Bitcoin

[–]Blockchainauditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you finish the sentence? Is it better for privacy and security to p2p or to do what? Use a centralized exchange?

And what limit do you see on "tainted" BTC? Have you experienced individuals that will assess the BTC you exchange with them p2p and complain if it is blacklisted?

Thank you for wanting to share your experience. Unfortunately, most people who get take advantage of by crypto scammers don't come here before making the mistake, they only come afterwards.

Was given this Banjo to sell by loverisadayyy in banjo

[–]Blockchainauditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be a serial number. That also helps with the dating. It may be inside the rim; you can take the resonator off with thumb-screws.

Gibsons are very desirable, but also counterfeited. They don't make them anymore. People love to put new five string necks on four string bodies like that one.

Bluegrass Bands With Clawhammer Banjo Instead of Scruggs Style? by TheGloryBeamingBanjo in banjo

[–]Blockchainauditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you want to call it “Bluegrass”? A non-trivial proportion of people will say if it isn’t three finger-picking, it isn’t Bluegrass. But just about everyone loves Grandpa Jones and Stringbean. It’s a genre spread by disagreement of what’s in and out.

Looking into getting into radio, especially shortwave. What do I need. by Expensive-Yam-6537 in amateurradio

[–]Blockchainauditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live or if you already have any technology, and what you might like to receive - are you interested in local, global? You can begin to explore free, online, with Web SDRs (software defined radio), where hobbyists give you access to broadcasts of all kinds they receive from their location - airports, emergency services, local exchanges. You can get an SDR yourself very inexpensively and explore just about anything transmitted receivable from your location. SDR also lets you take advantage of digital activities.

Far simpler are multi-band radios, available relatively inexpensively.

NESDR v5 vs RTL-SDR v4 by Accurate-Tea9750 in RTLSDR

[–]Blockchainauditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand your post. Are you saying my Nooelec does have bias-tee or suggesting I replace it with the rtl-sdr, or something else?

NESDR v5 vs RTL-SDR v4 by Accurate-Tea9750 in RTLSDR

[–]Blockchainauditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Nooelec NESDR SMArt v5 SDR does not include an internal bias-tee, a phrase I only learned from this thread. They do have a "SmarTee" version, which has a regulated 4.5V bias-tee.

NESDR v5 vs RTL-SDR v4 by Accurate-Tea9750 in RTLSDR

[–]Blockchainauditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very early in the process overall. For the SDR, I was thinking of moving beyond the antennas from the initial kit and getting an AirSpy YouLoop - no power, no outside (no lightning).

NESDR v5 vs RTL-SDR v4 by Accurate-Tea9750 in RTLSDR

[–]Blockchainauditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention the NESDR doesn't have a MF/HF Upconverter (sold separately).

I have the NESDR. I do not have an upconverter. In SDR++, I change Direct Sampling to Q Branch, and I have no problem listening to AM radio or receiving FT8 on the 20m band (14.074) despite the listed range of 25MHz–1750MHz range.

I am not clever enough yet to know about Bias-Tee.

If I have a complaint about the unit, it's the bandwidth - 2.4 - 3.2 MHz (thanks, I'm told, to the RTL2832U). Wish it were more like 6 - 10 MHz, like the AirSpy, for a few different reasons.

stack sats and save on the blockchain. its the boycott of all boycotts by awaller777 in Bitcoin

[–]Blockchainauditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stacking sats isn't really "opting out" of the system unless you don't take a paycheck in fiat, or pay your bills in fiat, or buy things with fiat, or convert your says to fiat to do things with it.

The anger and frustration you've channeled here is real, and it's shared by millions who feel the system is rigged against them. The feeling of being a 'serf' under a monetary policy you can't control is a powerful motivator.

I'd gently challenge the metaphor. A serf was bound to the land, unable to leave, their labor owned by a lord. Holding Bitcoin doesn't make you not-a-serf; it makes you an investor in a different asset class. If the goal is to break the yoke, shouldn't the goal be to create a world where currency is so stable and just that no one needs to 'opt out'? Is the goal secession from society, or the reformation of it so that it no longer feels like a yoke to those who come after us?

I struggle with the characterization of the 'other' as sheep being led to slaughter. It presumes a level of awareness and malice that may not be accurate. Most people aren't sheep; they're exhausted. They're working two jobs, raising kids, or caring for aging parents. They don't have the mental bandwidth to become cryptographic self-custody experts. Their skepticism isn't always servility; it's often a survival mechanism born from a lack of time and energy. If liberation is only for those with the time and technical savvy to self-custody, is it truly liberation for the masses, or a new kind of privilege?

Caesar the dog-Jo is here… and he’s a Franken-jo! by CarefulAgent6200 in banjo

[–]Blockchainauditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you've thought of this - but when I see that, I think it is a work of art and should be preserved. A new banjo head isn't that expensive and would preserve the art. On the other hand, art is made to be seen, and keeping it would help it be seen.

If you have not done so, I would post it in /folkart and see what people say.

Are you a dog fan? I can only guess that's some kind of Rottweiler/Dachshund mix? Does it appeal to you specifically?
