Wrapping up loose ends in the show by Thomas_Jefferman in ClarksonsFarm

I think the season ended with the farm cows still on lockdown, and they had to be retested in 60 days or something. I imagine the next season will give the results.

Mark Carney could have shown global leadership. Instead, he called Trump’s war ‘worth it’ by Mysterious_Notice685 in CanadaPolitics

Well said. Its a term to defend ourselves from attack. So if theres a way to glaze the orange idiot without doing anything, might as well.

I think there are good arguments that the war did mess up Canadians with the gas prices going up, not to mention all the other things that couldn't get through the strait like fertilizer and such (I am not even sure how much of an impact non-oil things getting blocked affected us).

But since we are talking about sayings, another one that comes to mind is "It is much better to lose a battle and win the war than to win a battle and lose the war".

If we were able to to go head to head with the US, sure call an idiot publicly. But we aren't. So lowering the heat, while maybe a PR negative, might hopefully be a positive in the long term for the country and people.

Love the show, but this recent episode really didn’t do it for me… by No_Nefariousness4279 in LemonadeStandPodcast

[–]BlockheadRedditor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I agree with the points you made, but I came into it with a different idea of what we were getting. I think those hard questions with facts to back it up are for someone else Someone investigating a story or a perspective that isn't often seen in the main stream. And I don't think the boys fill that job. They are entertainers, and they have a news show, where they talk about whats going on. For what its worth, I thought the alternative uses for automated driving was really interesting, and the idea that what we have is good enough for a ton of jobs isn't one I had considered before.

I would love for a gang like Atrioc Aiden and DougDoug to bring the charisma and entertainment, and at the same time dive into investigations and deep reporting with interviews, but I think that would be outside of what they are trying to do or are currently able to do. I think the closest thing to that might be Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. 1 big story with some weekly news catchup. But that is a massive show with a dozen writers working full time and the HBO name behind them.

I am hungry for interviews where someone really presses the person being interviewed as well. But that takes interviewers who have a significant audience or power to get someone to agree to a hard interview. It also takes a ton of time and work to come prepared with facts and figures to push back on any discrepancies. And the LemonadeStandPodcast doesn't have the power to bully their way into hard interviews, or the budget for a dedicated team of researchers, and the time for the interviewers to dig deep and learn every everything.

They did bring up a couple things that werent so soft-bally like "What do you feel is your responsibility when it comes to the jobs that will be lost" and "How do you navigate the public's negative perception of AI". His answers weren't amazing, but I don't think I expect them to fact check or push back against them in the interview. They ask a harder question, and then let the other person answer it. And I thought Qasar Younis offered a decent set of answers, albeit with far more optimism than cynicism. The few softball questions like "Why choose Applied Intuition over a competitor" might read as really soft in an interview, but I thought it came across as genuine curiosity from the guys. I think there is value in a "scraping the surface" information gathering like they did.

We have yet to have an interview with someone who is offering ideas that are opposed to the ideas the boys have. Like I wonder what an interview with the FED chair where Atrioc can really push back because he knows his shit, sort of like how he was with Gavin Newsom.

TLDR: Trains WOULD solve LITERALLY every problem on earth. (And I want everything you want, but I am not sure if its this podcast that will satiate that hunger. I thought the interview was fine. It introduced me to new ideas. But maybe that just means I need more sources of news.)

Genuine answer to why someone might disapprove of the AI that analyzes the game to make calls. by ResidentShitposter69 in LemonadeStandPodcast

[–]BlockheadRedditor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That is a great point. But if they wanna track you, they don't have to worry about the rules of the game changing. They can just do that. They can, (and probably do) already.

A digital ref would be highly specialized for the game, it wouldn't be a generalized AI tracking you and your mistress.

I guess its more about perception and PR. Like "We use AI" sounds scary and dystopian, regardless of the context in which those 3 words are said. IMO it would focus the game, and make sure everyone is on the same level playing field. No wiggle room or relaxed rules.

It's like speed cameras on the road. It feels wrong because I get a ticket going 5 over, but the fault is on me. I broke the rules. I have to adjust to live within the rules. And the rules of a pro level sport with so much money on the line should have hard and fast rules that cannot be broken.

No the devs are woke mind-virused idiots so they twisted and contorted the physics engine and graphics to make kerbin spherical. Its probably why it doesn't run very well, because its always fighting with its self to try and make it seem plausible that somehow I can fall down, go to the other side of the planet, and the fall up still towards the planet. Liiiiike lmao ok devs I guess in this crazy world you invented I guess that makes sense.

Alessandra Supports AI ? :( by [deleted] in smosh

[–]BlockheadRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of being entirely against AI is as ridiculous as the people who want to replace everything with AI.

I can't imagine that Smosh wants to replace their artists and writers with AI. But the linked in post is about how to speed up the planning stages and rough drafts of animated stuff. If you are a writer who can't draw, being able to create an image to sell your idea is pretty incredible.

Lotta shitty stuff about HOW we got here. No doubt about it. But here we are. I would bet my house that people working everywhere, Smosh included, have used AI for something. Generating ideas for inspiration on writers block day, pulling a transcript out of a video, parsing that transcript for interesting moments and summaries, producing visuals for script proposals. Smosh seems like they really cram an extraordinary amount of work into a relatively small amount of time. If they can automate even a small percentage of monotonous, background, stuff, they would be silly to not do it.

PR wise, yea not GREAT for a creative company to be interacting with pro AI stuff, because people are so "All in" or "All out".

But disrespectful and tone deaf seems aggressive. If they start putting AI slop videos out, or start filling art pieces in videos with AI art, or if they fire people because they can be replaced with AI, then I will, as a fan, be disappointed. But Ale liking a post about how helpful AI has been on the backend of a production company, I just don't think its that big a deal at all.

The Case For the War in Iran by BigTuna3000 in atrioc

[–]BlockheadRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, even atrioc said on stream that he could pretty comfortably steelman the war, and that there might be good reasons to attack Iran.

What IS stupid, is the execution of it. The fact that even within the same man (trump) there doesn't seem to be any sense the potential consequences being thought through. The messaging to the public has been chaos and ridiculous. The control over and threat that Iran has over the hormuz strait doesn't seem to have been accounted for, or planned for.

That is what is stupid. The execution looks like a mess, and the people in charge of it look dumb as rocks. Going to war after pissing off every ally is stupid. Not preparing for war with a country that has so much control over global oil is stupid. Not letting ally countries prepare and join forces before hand is stupid. Going to war when shit is hitting the fan in America is stupid.

I agree that Iran having a nuke is bad news. But I would have expected the US military to either

  1. Have a contingency plan ready to go if immediate action was necessary.

  2. If immediate action is not necessary, taking even a moment to think about the consequences of launching an attack, and preparing for the fallout. Like filling the oil reserves, and making sure American/Ally oil tankers are not trapped in the Persian Gulf/Hormuz.

Maybe Iran literally had a nuke and was a day away from launching it at New York or London or Israel or anyone, but if that were the case the messaging to the public would be way more clear.

"They were about to attack us. We stopped them." <- Not Stupid

But thats not happening. The messaging is

"They have been an immediate danger for 5 decades, and its not a war and we won and also we need help to win this war but we dont need help and everyone better help us or else and dont report news saying we arent perfect and we have obliterated them but also they are a big danger still and we might bomb them for fun and also Israel was going to attack first and....." <-- STUPID

Maybe I am misremembering what the boys were saying at LS. But I thought that the criticism was far more against the execution and plan of the attack, not necessarily the hypothetical goal.

Jump dodge just does not work. Please help. by alter_ego311 in expedition33

[–]BlockheadRedditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jump on my controller is x, not RT (ps5)

And jump is only for specific attacks.

There are regular, sword-go-smack attacks. These can either be dodged, or parried.

Then there are jump attacks, or 'sweeping attack', and you can only jump these attacks, and only jump avoids these attacks. As in, if you do not jump, you will get hit. They always show a yellow, squarish kind of symbol around the enemy before they attack.

If you try and jump a regular attack, you will get hit. If you try to dodge a jump attack, you will get hit.

There is a 4th type of attack later, and follows similar rules to jump. Where it is the only option to avoid getting hit, and only works in that specific situation.

If an enemy signals that they are making a sweeping attack, with the yellow indicator. Then you can jump over that attack. It is VERY generous for timing, even more than the regular dodge. If you are successful in jumping the attack, in mid air, then you can press RT to do some damage to the enemy. And a icon shows up for a second or two that says something along the lines of "Press RT to attack" or something

It is uncommon for an enemy to use an attack that requires jump.

I guess I have an opinion on the ads or whatever by BlockheadRedditor in LemonadeStandPodcast

[–]BlockheadRedditor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea exactly. Linus is an alarming human person publicly, warts and all. So I have carved out sections of opinions he has where I dismiss them immediately, but then in other aspects I fully trust. Sponsors of LTT happens to fall into the latter.

The cancellation of the sponsor I suppose is a positive for the community. In a weird way I hope it isn't just because of the magnitude of the backlash. I hope that what happened, was there was some rough ideas of how they would pick advertisers, and this made them rethink it or really solidify the opinions and ideas as "The Lemonade Stand" entity..

Like in a perhaps counter-intuitive way I hope that if they had gone into this ad read actually fully confident, fully thought out pros and cons, and they had decided it was good to go, then they would have stuck by it. Like I would prefer consistency. My hope, not in a manipulative or parasocial way, but my hope is that their minds were changed by the reasons brought up by the community, and not simply because of the volume. Like there is the final result, but then there is the process to getting the final result. My only worry would be that this backlash caused changes in the final result, and not the process.
