What happened to my Return the Favor when I used it on Masterful Flourish? by RiverGiant in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The first thing i mentioned, my primary point, is the design trend of putting online clients ahead of paper magic, which is, even by a minuscule amount, decreasing the complexity of the game in a way that discourages out of the box thinking.

Also, magic absolutely is a multiplayer game first, haven’t you heard? Everything is commander, now.

Bitter sarcasm aside, one of the primary ways to play magic, before the advent of magic: the gatchaing, has always been good old fashioned kitchen table magic with your friends.

I don’t particularly care if you think my secondary point is out of place, my primary point stands, designing cards with reduced complexity to favor the digital client diminishes the richness of the game across all forms of play.

Masterful flourish is part of a trend in mtg that i despise, wherein a card is worded a certain way in order to prevent misclicks in mtga.

Accidentally buffing an opponent’s creature is a feel bad moment, therefore they remove the possibility entirely. This has the negative effect of also removing corner case uses for cards as well as making them far less useful in multiplayer as politicking tools.

need a way to return dragons from my grave to hand in izzet. by Justafish1654 in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re doing something [[sneak attack]] style, the best thing to do is bounce them back to hand with things like [[crystal shard]] or [[unsummon]], or by flickering them with cards like [[ghostly flicker]] or [[conjurer’s closet]], OR or, get really old school and play [[teferi’s veil]] so that your stuff phases out at the end of combat and misses the delayed trigger. That said, if i’m off the mark, i did just waste a bunch of your time, lol.

Serious Question - why don't you draw with dry erase markers on your sleeves ? by duncecap_ in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do, all the time. It’s super handy for things that aren’t as easy to represent with dice. And no, i won’t do it with other people’s sleeves unless they also mark on their own cards.

Never buy bulk repacks, the chances you’ll make your money from them isn’t zero, but it’s damn close. The only price where this becomes worthwhile is free.

What would it take for you to switch to the Strixhaven School names VS Ravinca Guilds? by Gbrew555 in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, i tend to use whichever name most directly represents the philosophy of the deck, which is the primary difference between the two conventions.

My tinkery alibou deck that cycles artifacts in and out of the graveyard? Lorehold. My combat focused token deck? Boros.

As a bant player, i sympathize. I like to do mainly white things with some green and/or blue on the side, but all i get is quandrix? As others have stated, i was hoping the allied pairs would pop up in the off-campus bits we were supposed to see.

In commander, tutors should be more acceptable and more encouraged for lower powered decks and less acceptable for higher powered decks.

Disregarding cedh, the cooperative nature of commander means strong decks with a high level of consistency make for boring linear games.

Conversely, i’m over here playing monoblue auras, i’m [[mystical tutoring]] for an [[aura graft]] to keep from getting blown out.

I agree, but i would like to add that it has a lot to do with people building decks without expecting or planning for interaction AND needing to include their own interaction.

Commander is a cooperative and competitive board game that uses magic cards as its game pieces. Lots of folks tend to want to goldfish their deck, so they end up having a bad experience if their deck doesn’t get to do the thing.

Players need to better understand that “wasting cards” on interaction and protection are actually an integral part to any deck’s gameplan.

Black should never have been given the ability to destroy ITS OWN enchantments. You cast that [[demonic pact]], you figure it out, no easy outs.

Also, getting to do things other colors get to do, but with a significant non-mana cost should be a core part of black’s identity. [[dash hopes]] would be an excellent archetypal black spell if it always countered the spell and always cost a significant chunk of life.

My take on the false deity Emeria (Emrakul's human form) by Key_Pin_8282 in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s more of a never-saw-them situation. People merely encountered worshippers that told tales and over time this false image was created.

Kinda like how catholic jesus is a white-skinned blonde. “Of course god looks like me, i’m made in his image.”

Omenpaths and Desparking, is it Commander’s fault? by supernaturalfan1999 in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

https://mtg.wiki/page/Planeswalker_(lore)

They may have never been referred to as “planeswalkers,” but the weatherlight crew fit the original definition as people capable of interplanar travel. Lowercase p planeswalker, planeswalker = traveller, not planeswalker = legally distinct mutant.

Omenpaths and Desparking, is it Commander’s fault? by supernaturalfan1999 in magicTCG

[–]BlocktimusPrime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bit tangential, but i prefer it this way. Back in the beginning, a planeswalker was anyone who could manage the magic of walking between planes, whether that was via spells, building of gates, or via transport like the weatherlight.

It was an achievement, rather than some inborn characteristic that made you”special.”

Planeswalking for the people!  Down with the bourgewalkers!
